Congrats Tim, and thanks for the kind words.

I think .45 is correct. I don't personally care for that one aspect of the exemption, but it's my understanding that that's how it is.

Gunner, a few thoughts from a multiple certified OC/Chemical Agents instructor and a former TASER instructor......... Try to stay away from traditional handheld stun guns, which are comparatively weak and require your assailant to already be way too close in to you to be effective. TASER is a better, non-firearm option, but it's going to be pricey. Pepper spray can be a good option, but don't settle for anything less than law enforcement grade product. I'd say look for sprays produced by Aerko, Defense Technology (Def-Tec), or Sabre. Pepper spray can be bought at Ace Hardware or the Dollar General store, but all sprays are not created equally. I've been around OC/Chemical Agents stuff for a long time, and had never heard of Wildfire before I just now Googled it, sooo..... Whatever defensive option you and she choose, avoid purse carry (just like with a handgun, it's a bad idea). Meanwhile, try to open her mind up to at least considering a handgun. PM me if I can help further.

Self Defense in a posted establishment?
BigPoppa replied to TNTitan's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
IANAL, but it is my understanding, and what we instruct, that the following TCA section (often called the "omnibus" or "safe harbor" defense, would offer you some degree of protection in the scenario you suggest. Basically, it is the State saying in light of the big picture of the circumstances, we will overlook or reduce the initial violation in favor of the greater good that was done. Having said that, I encourage all of our students to continue to use discretion and good judgement. 39-17-1322. Defenses. — A person shall not be charged with or convicted of a violation under this part if the person possessed, displayed or employed a handgun in justifiable self-defense or in justifiable defense of another during the commission of a crime in which that person or the other person defended was a victim. -

That's a good one. And "Amazing Grace" played on the bagpipes always breaks me up.

It was recently brought to my attention that this date is the annual Tennessee - Alabama football confrontation. If this is discouraging some of you from enrolling who would otherwise be interested in attending, I am open to a reschedule.

That is good stuff. This must be the resource that the mainstream media has been utilizing for years. -
A recent Politico.com article mentions Tennessee Senator Bob Corker as a possible 2012 GOP Presidential candidate. David Petraeus, Joe Scarborough eyed for '12 - Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei - POLITICO.com

It also got him fired later that year !

Back to the OP, I recently met some Cincinnati Police Department officers. Cool dudes, and CPD issues Smith & Wesson M & P chambered in 9mm. They also rock white uniform shirts. Go Reds.......

The DCSO (unlike most Tennessee Sheriff's Departments) has no patrol/law enforcement duties. The Metro Police handles that throughout Davidson County. The DCSO is responsible for running the jails, and serving civil warrants. It is my understanding that all DCSO employees start out working corrections after a 6 week training academy. This is not the POST certified Police Academy, so completion of this academy would not prepare you for lateral transfers to other agencies to work patrol. Advantages to the job (IMHO) are: decent starting pay and benefits, good equipment from what I hear, and job security. The biggest benefit is that for people who want a "patrol officer" law enforcement career, working in a jail environment prepares you much better for that than coming into it cold....the most important thing in any criminal justice career is knowing how to talk to folks, and if you don't or can't learn IPC skills in a jail, you usually won't last long.

They're good to go.

I refuse to patronize any dining establishment with a single-digit health inspection score. Every man has to draw a line, and that's mine.
-
I see your reasoning, that if an establishment is posted with legal verbiage or not, that they are not supportive of the 2A and you won't financially support them. OTOH, the posting must be specific and legal to be enforeceable, and some HCP carriers feel inclined to carry there anyway when the joint is not legally posted.

Never mind.

Had to watch the rest of this train wreck............ Does the Memphis City Charter call for a runoff election if no candidate gets 50% + 1 vote ? or would a simple plurality put somebody in ? Hardly an ardent observer of Memphis politics, I nonetheless foresee significant splits of the votes.

I watched the first part, and I must say....you Memphis folks sure do have some......er.....intriguing....candidates to pick from.
