  1. From one Poppa to another: A defensive carry handgun should be ready to be immediately deployed. With a pistol, that means a round should always be chambered. Get some snap caps or dummy rounds, load your gun and chamber a round. Carry it around for a while around the safety of your house. See if, at any time, it "goes off". This will develop your confidence in the gun, and your handling of it. If you're not comfortable with that, go back to your revolver. I would rather see you carry a revolver that you can immediately get running than a higher capacity pistol that you cannot. Murders, rapes, carjackings, and assaults do not occur in a vacuum of perfect circumstances that will allow you sufficient time to draw from concealment, run the slide to chamber a round, and then address your threat. Whichever route you go, remember what has already been mentioned in this regard....keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot and holster carefully. Doing these things consistently will all but eliminate any chance of a UD...even with a pistol that has a round in the pipe. Work it out.........and best wishes on the surgery.
  2. Yes, when your driver's license is run, your HCP status come back along with it. Your DL # and your HCP # are the same. And yes, my recommendation is to always be up front and let the LEO know immediately that you have a Carry Permit and are armed (and let them know in that order !) In Tennessee, you are not legally obligated to volunteer this information, but when travelling (depending on the state), you may be.
  3. What is the dumbest self-defense advice you have ever heard? To be fair, I totally ripped this idea off from a current thread over at THR. I just thought it was interesting, and might get some good answers here. My contribution is the old....."shoot 'em in the yard, then drag 'em into the house" . We STILL (unfortunately) hear this periodically in the HCP course, and always hasten to correct this misinformation.

  18. A dreadful story. 18 years is far too light of a sentence for these people, but I suspect that on Judgment Day all will be made right. There is a special place in Hell for anyone who could do these things to a defenseless child. New Mexico law apparently needs an overhaul....if ever there was a case that cried out for the death penalty, this is it. These people should never again draw a breath as free people in society. Since no one would or could help her, it is a tragic irony that perhaps it is better that Brianna died at this young age rather than endure years more of this abuse and torture as she got older.
  19. WOW. Hanging 45 on Georgia.......and where the heck has this Jonathan Crompton been all year ? A nice conference win. I'm very happy for Coach K and the team.

  21. This may help: rec.guns FAQ: III.E.4.b. Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays
  22. People far more knowledgeable than me on this topic will be along shortly, but I think: trap, skeet and sporting clays all use the same clay targets - the difference is in how the targets are thrown, where they are thrown from, and the angle they are thrown from. and yes, AFAIK the same gun can be used in all 3 activities.
