  1. Yessir, if you've completed the HCP course, and just don't have the card yet, you're good to go. Our primary concern is that folks are aware of, and practice, safe gun handling skills.
  2. Are you a SafetySouth alumni ? I ask 'cuz one of my most favoritest things in the world to tell HCP classes is "Just because you can, doesn't always mean you should" And of course................a big + 1 to quality training.
  3. True, but as a practical matter, good luck ever collecting a thin dime from the typical :poop:bags we're dealing with here.
  4. I Am Not A Lawyer As we discuss in our HCP classes, this is a potential gray area that, to my knowledge, has not been fully threshed out in the courts. As in..... yes, you may eventually be cleared or released from any and all civil liability, but how much court, attorneys' fees, etc. will you have to endure before you get there ? Our advice remains - "if you shoot somebody, expect to be sued - and if it never happens, then that's just a bonus."
  5. T.C.A........and IANAL, but I'm not certain that "immune" and "cannot be sued" are the same thing.
  6. Well, according to some of the apparent bloodlust in this thread, and others recently, you shoulda just "dusted" the guy or "emptied three mags into him" and when the cops came they would have high-fived you and stayed for Dick Clark's New Years' Rockin' Eve !!
  7. Am I the only one who sees Fred Sanford when they look at sidinman's avatar ?
  8. 6 or 7 slots still available as of today.
  9. State requirement is 70%....or 34 of 48.
  10. JAB, The following material comes from the California Handgun Safety Certificate study guide. It's very similar to what your Mom will see on her Tennessee HCP test. When not using a gun, it is imperative to use a firearms safety device and store it in a locked container. (page 13) True False A safe practice when handling a gun is to rest your finger on the outside of the trigger guard or along the side of the gun until you are ready to shoot. (page 9) True False The two most common types of handguns are: (page 17) A. Single-action and doubleaction revolvers. B. Semiautomatic revolvers and pistols. C. Semiautomatic and automatic pistols. D. Revolvers and semiautomatic pistols. Action: A series of moving parts that allow a firearm to be loaded, fired and unloaded. Revolver: A handgun that has a rotating cylinder containing a number of chambers.
  11. As Robbiev says, the Instructor may modify/add to the test somewhat, but the standard test issued by TDOS is 30 questions, all either true or false or fill in the blank. Many of the questions are also asked more than once, using a different format or worded differently. Most of the questions relate to common sense safe handling rules, storage, and range commands. Tell Mom it's nothing to be nervous about.
  12. HEAR, HEAR !!
  13. + 1. Festus was great. I love it when he and Doc jaw back and forth at each other.
  14. I am sooooo proud of my little tongue-in-cheek, afterthought thread I started during the Super Bowl. It has snowballed into a nearly 100 reply thread. I was really just kinda messin' around........no idea it would turn into the biggest thing on TGO since "three word thread" or the new member intro. where the black gentleman from Memphis wondered if he should stay. Having said that........................carry on !!
  15. Me too !! "Deploy" sounds ultra:death:
  16. here's 2 More thing's that Get on My nerve's: it gets On my nerve's when people Capitalize random Words in the middle of a sentence and Also when they use apostrophe's When they Are not called For in the word's they are Using. So who are you Guy's for in the Super Bowl ? The Colt's or The Saint's ? Thank's
  17. 6 Months
  18. Good stuff, Danny. My thanks to all who served and still serve.
  19. Speed Strip. Very flat and unobtrusive. With practice, one can perform a very speedy reload with one. Our suggested method has you carry the strip on your gun side, so that can take a little figuring out, but it's not a huge problem. Bianchi makes probably the most widely used version..580 Â Speed Stripsâ„¢
  20. Just had to..........didntya ?
  21. I have added a new requirement for successful completion of this course: At no point during the training day can you refer to your shotgun as a "gauge" or a "shottie". First offense results in Thank you kindly.
  22. Normal construction of a revolver. Your fear of escaping gasses, etc. is well founded. That's called "cylinder gap blast" and while it won't "blow your hand off", it's still no fun. As bkelm advises, keep all of your digits well behind that cylinder gap. BTW.....you mention ZERO handgun experience. I recall that you are not eligible for a Handgun Carry Permit, but you could still take the course for the training value.
  23. Chattanooga-area guys: Gimme some recommendations for clean, nice motels near the Comedy Catch on Brainerd Road. Thanks
  24. Happy Birthday ! Nice looking gun.......the fore end looks especially super tacticool Being new to shotguns, you should look for a good training course. Oh wait, I know a place.........................
