  1. I posted because I have read several newspaper articles of criminal activity by LEO; nothing more, nothing less. Secondly, because I use forums as a way to tap the knowledge of others, especially with similar interests. Just thought someone may have seen something of this nature. I suspected that those with a HCP may be of statistical interest. Again, didn't know if that was the case or not. Your last question is YOUR assumption. In many cases, just based on firearms training, many on this board will in all likely hood be better trained than the person who responds to your 911 call. As far as training for the situational response, doubtful. It never crossed my mind to make that argument to a business owner. As far as my intervention, it is only likely if myself or family is at risk. Just asking, no intention to offend anyone. Just the facts
  2. Not trying to pick a fight. Just wanting to point out factual information, one way or the other. I think it is pertinent to point out, especially to the business community that it is in fact people are the problem, not firearms.
  3. Just wondering, especially with the number of businesses that post the gun buster signs, what are the statistics on criminal acts, with or without weapons, of LEO? Permit holder? Both on the State and National levels. My impression is that I read a lot more about illegal activities regarding LEO, but of course not every article, especially those that do not include a firearm, will note whether or not one is a permit holder. One can probably guess where I'm going with this. But to me it seems that by in large, the permit holders, will most likely be, statistcally speaking, the safest person going into the bank, resturant, etc., armed.
  4. Kidding, right? But, if that is the case, I certainly wouldn't mind drawing my weapon and say "not today, thank you". Then the next move is his as I slowly step away. If he moves forward in an aggressive fashion, I am fearing bodily harm and will shoot.
  5. With all of the pharmacy robberies lately, wonder how they feel those signs are workin' out for them?
  6. Don't believe everything you read.....especially from a reporter or a politician:koolaid:
  7. That's OK with me....at least it is now on my terms. It is just plain rude to point a gun at someone, and I can't stand rudeness.........
  8. I think most are in agreement that for SD purpose, grouping as in target shooting has little relevance. In fact, if you can get a tight group on a COM target, you should probably increase your speed. Two shots together generally are less effective in stoppage than if they were spread out, damaging more and different organs and soft tissue. Don't buy into single shot stoppage. Many reports show multiple hit adversaries that continue to fight, and kill, with otherwise lethal hits. I would say work on the combination of accuracy first, then increase your speed at normal 'confrontational' distances.
  9. Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else.....but seemed appropriate for training. Good reminder
  10. I would say "it's a Sigma". You have a very good, reliable SD gun. There has been much written about the trigger and mods. Also much written about unpredictable results and loss of reliability. I would either keep it the way it is and buy another gun for more 'range work' that you really like, or simply sell the Sigma, put the extra cash for parts and trigger work into the new gun. Overall, I still think for the money, as a SD gun, the Sigma is the best buy.
  11. That would be 'impossible' rather than hard.
  12. Shop around. I got mine for a ridiculous price. Couldn't get another that way, but heck, for all I've paid in the past....I was overdue:p
  13. I bought the R1 Remington in Oct 2010. Just a basic 1911 that had several favorable reviews by the the gun mags. I had put near 1,000 rds through it before going to Front Sight. Shot the entire 4DDHC without a failure (600rds). Two months later repeated the same course, and again no failures of any kind. Of course this is all with 230 gr. FMJ. It will hiccup with FTF on ocassion with 200gr. SWC. However it has handled 200gr. Jacketed TC without any problems. It is a fine shooting gun, especially given the price. If you want a 1911, this would be a good choice. Also, with this gun Remington offers it Platinum Service, which in the first year they will inspect and clean the gun at no charge; this includes all shipping. I sent mine in this past Monday, Jun 13, and got it back today. Not bad! Posts: 8Joined: Fri May 06, 2011 9:27 am Private message
  14. 12. It is unlawful to hunt, shoot at, chase, or kill any wild animal, wild bird or wildfowl on public lands and waters within 100 yards of a visible dwelling house, without the owner’s permission, whether or not such a dwelling is on public or private lands. Above is from the TWRA hunting guidelines. One cannot shoot across a road, as well. I am not certain how this pertains to simple target practice, but I can't see it being much different, regardless of what one would be shooting as long as you're on your property and not endangering others.
  15. REALLY? You're serious!? Auto accidents, cancer, Military service....either you are not old enough to be using the computer, or simply don't get out much.
  16. appreciate the additional info. The way it sounded I thought she had no gun experience. A very simple gun to operate is the Beretta Tomcat. Flip barrel, no slide to rack to load or unload. Minimal recoil, small and easy reload with extra mag.
  17. I'm not sure either is a good option. Regardless of age, which can be a factor, without proper training, no one should rely on a gun for SD. As we all tend to drop off both mentally and physically, just the fact-of-life, I would much prefer she have some sort of panic alarm system available, especially for falls and other medical situations which are much more likely to occur and just as life threatening.
  18. bought and sold several firearms through the years. If there are no legal requirements, and there are not, don't make it anymore complicated.......the last thing I want to do is act like the gov'ment.
  19. Way to go. Great letter. If you don't care I may borrow a few lines.
  20. There are a lot of good guns out there for the money. I shoot the heck out of a Remington R1. Got a couple of buddies that love their Taurus. If you are simply looking for a shooter/SD gun, don't get too hung up on fit and finish. It sometimes comes at the expense of reliability. Most any of the 1911s mentioned are considerably more accurate than the shooters. Go to a show, handle a few, pull the triggers, then make your jump.
  21. Nitesiters Handgun Night Sights These are cheap and work really well.
  22. Double Bummer! Of course I understand. Lots of people with bigger problems in Chattanooga Area and into Alabama. But sure was looking forward to the class. UNforunately, got another course to attend on the proposed make-up date. Sure hope they have another class in the area soon.
  23. Yep me too: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handguns/54227-r1-remington-report.html#post699627Y
