  1. And that is why you don't run around the house with the 1911 safety OFF. Geezz
  2. This and hollow points to hopefully minimize 'shoot throughs".
  3. The Remington R1 is a classic design and I have had 0 problems with mine. Several thousand rounds.....it is a shooter, but nothing fancy, but it works. Nothing wrong with the Taurus. It has a lot of nice features which are standard. Kimber underwhelms me, and would not be a pick of mine.
  4. Caster thanks, that is exactly what another friend and experienced reloader told me....almost word for word. Will make the adjustment. DaveS, will also look again at the primer situation, but what has happened the XD's would indent the primer, but not fire. The second try was always in a 1911 and would fire, which sends me back to Caster's explanation. Thanks again
  5. OAL is good. But I think you are correct in that it drops into the chamber a little too far. It may be that the crimp is too much on a lead bullet giving me just a slighly smaller OD at the bullet. I'll back off the crimp a hair and see. I don't think the primer is too 'proud'. Plus that should give me a better chance at ignition. It has done it in two XDs, and fired in 1911 on the second try. I thought they might be too deep, but they are flush and this compares to factory rounds when gapped with a straight edge. But thanks and I appreciate the ideas...
  6. Loading 230 gr.lead RN. Have had a few primer strikes with the XD that did not fire. Put them in the 1911 and work fine. This has happened with two different XDs. Primer is flush across the bass if not .001 'proud'. I have been told that the crimp may be too tapered on the bullet. It looks and feels good, and the bullet can't be pushed deeper, meaning it certainly is a firm crimp.... so maybe that's it. Whatdaya think?
  7. Good move on your part........would've probably done the same.
  8. OK, got the DVD and started from scratch.........makin' ammo now.... Thanks
  9. Try Farnsworth in Vonore
  10. Doesn't one have a receipt from the DMV to serve as your permit until the real mccoy shows up?
  11. I visit MS; so what are the 'off-limits' areas without the enhanced permit, i.e., just a plain ol' TN permit?
  12. gittin' it mounted?
  13. I would highly recommend a trip to Front Sight in Las Vegas. Their 4DayDefensive Handgun class is excellent. A search for certificates or memberships at greatly reduced prices vs. their list price will save you a bunch of money. You can easily get one of these for $500 or less, and for the membership and 4 days of training it is a great value. Let me know if you have other questions about Front Sight
  14. Northern Firearms via GunBroker's has decent prices
  15. I think the group at CCA are overall a good bunch. I have heard favorable reports regarding the training available and for the time and money it would be a good place to start. Randy with Suarez Int. is a fantastic instructor and I would highly recommend him. It does run into a little money though. The important thing is that documented, formal training may not only really save your life, it may help you should you wind up in court for some firearm related issue.
  16. +1.....walk before you run. Any gun is better than what she has been carrying, right? Let her grow into it. IF she decides she wants something else, and it is her idea, then do it then, not now.
  17. Congrats on getting additional training. It does make a world of difference, and will reveal, at least in my case, how much I didn't know. I will add that in formal training I have shot over 1200 rds. through my Rem R1 without a problem. (knock on wood). It seems that the 'tighter tolerance" 1911s, or should I say high end, have more malfunctions, in my experience in those classes. Additionally, serpa holsters have been banned from Front Sight training because of the increase risk of ND as mentioned from trigger finger motion. I'm sure that if one carries and trains routinely this can be worked out....but not everyone is as diligent as WillCarry on getting that training.
  18. Yep, good videos and different concepts to digest.....Thanks Paul
  19. just send it to friends or relatives out of state........

    Ruger LCP

the LCP and most other small autos seem to be a little sensitive to dirt and fouling. When mine is clean, no problems, but towards the end of a 50rd box I will get some feeding problems. Haven't put but about 150 rds through it yet, so it may get better. However when clean no problems and shoots very good at 10yds and closer..which is what it is for. From what I have read, the Kahr 380 withstands a little more neglect.
  21. Friend has one and uses it duck hunting.......no problems to speak of. I have one of the O/U that Rem had imported, the SPR10 and it is very good for what it is.
  22. you can try online with S & G ammo.
  23. Anyone ever see any of those 'cop' TV shows where they all meet at the corner bar for a drink after a long day? It always makes me feel good that they stowed their sidearm in a locked case in the trunk of their car.
  24. That's why it is best never to say a word until you speak to your attorney; especially in this crazy world.
  25. I am new to the IDPA. There are some great people involved with it, and it is fun just being around a bunch of like-minded folks. I don't pretend to think I'm going to be the next great shooter; but I do it to improve my 'personal best'. Don't worry about others, just try and do your best with which ever gun you choose to shoot on that day and have a good time. If you really get bit by the bug, then more power to you.
