I know the shield is a great little 9. But recently I had the chance to handle it and the Taurus 709. These guns are almost identical in feel and size. They fit the same holster. Same weight, etc. I had really wanted a shield, but already have the 709. That comparison sure dampened my fire for the shield. Given that the shield is so hard to find, if you get the chance look at the 709 and save a little cash. Mine has been flawless, have recommended it several times, and now I don't have to spend extra cash for the shield.

Clean it. And if you want it to look new inside and out, stainless steel pins are the way to go.

I use WSF, Win SPP, and 124gr. Montana Gold HP. loaded to the middle to low side of range

I would typically stay away from the 1911 unless it is just an itch that has to be scratched. They have more maintenance, overall more fiddle factor, and generally more money than you need to spend. With that said there are a lot of good .45 1911s...Taurus, Remington, Springfield, etc. for around $600 - $700. BUT, if you just have to have the 'big hole' in the .45, and you want a very reliable, easy to operate gun, I'd go with the Smith M&P or the Springfield XD.

? REALLY ? Practicing shooting indoors without ear protection? That's like knowing you are going to have to eat a :poop: sandwich..........when it comes time to do it, you just gotta do it.....but you don't practice for it :screwy:

NYC police commisioner RAY KELLY stated the following facts on today's program 1. The problems are handguns. (my comment: don't think for a minute the gun-grabbers will be happy with any sort of magazine capacity ban or other assault weapon ban; 'they' want them all.) 2. 2% of the firearms arrest were for assault weapons (refer to #1) 3. 60% of murders in NYC were with handguns. (refer to #1) (also, that is very close to half of all murders, if a gun was not available there are still plenty of other options, obviously) The BHO administration has essentially ignored enforcement of current regulations. Look at other countries where firearms are illegal.....Mexico for example, where no one is safe because of the corruption of government officials and the drug cartels. How well did prohibition on alchohol work? Prostitution? Regulating psuedophed? Or any of the other poorly ran Federal programs? MY opinion is don't give them one more thing.....as the old saying goes, just say "NO".......or the new saying "HELL NO."

Where would you shoot.......head or body
chances R replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
EVER?.......Body armor? Drug crazed? Dedicated opponent? Thanks for all the answers, but again, I repeat, Just wondering on the legal implications of the head shot. Plus with the price and scaricity of ammo, one shot to the head more economical...... -

Exactly, you really don't know what you don't know. I shot handguns all my life; thought I knew how until I took a class. Really opened my eyes. Practice is OK, but Perfect Practice is much better. Most people are Unconsciously incompetent, just because of not knowing. Now that you are Consciously incompetent you can fix it. Your goal is to be Unconsciously Competent.

THAT just ain't right :yuck:

If time permits, electronic muffs are not only protective, but also a tactical advantage indoors and out. Keep 'em with your flashlight and SD gun. -
Victim decides NOT to shoot attacker!
chances R replied to walton6467's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
ET Pat. Please explain a non-lethal weapon. At the point of attack; and that is what we are talking about...an attack. No one knows how that is going to end, or when it will end. Just about any weapon can result in serious bodily harm, if not lethal at some point. Certainly a pellet gun can be lethal as noted by several posters My loss of vision would be life-changing, not to mention career changing and very severely effect my family. So if I'm on the jury, yes, this gentleman was attacked and risked significant bodily harm, if not loss of life. Also what about protection of his girl friend. How do you know what the attacker has in mind. A gun is a gun, especially in an attack. If you don't think so, point your water pistol at an officer sometime. -
Stainless.......buy it once and done. Nothing can shine/clean any better.

Well there you go........you know if it is on the internet it has to be true

IMO the liklihood of having an ND, or, a 'click' because a snap cap is loaded instead of a live round out-weighs the potential for damage. It is certainly a legimate purpose of the gun to dry practice, and therefore anticipated wear and tear in the training process. If it makes one feel better to use a dummy device, nothing wrong with it, but I have seen both of the situations mentioned happen with shotguns, and have heard of same with pistols.
-
Most modern firearms, other than rimfire can be dry-practiced almost endlessly. I know multiple instructors that have done this with 1911, Glock, M&P, and XDs thousands of times with no problems other than general wear and tear. If there is an issue it should be a simple repair. Which do you think causes more wear, firing a gun 5,000 times, or simply dry practice for the same number?
-
I completely understand people OC, but IMO this does more harm than good, just as the OP pointed out; i.e. more gunbuster signs. One's OC is not going to convince the general public that it is an OK thing, in fact I think it has just the opposite effect. Tactically it is also a bad choice. I really don't think we want to divide us up and argue OC vs. CC, but I do think that those that OC need to really evaluate what they are accomplishing overall.

SS balls won't clean in the edges of the base of the case interior. A little dawn dish washing solution and a little bit of Lemon Shine powder thrown in the water gets the job done.
