  1. Your biggest problem is finding powder and then shot for less than $50/bag. Otherwise you are better off finding federal, rio, or Nobel and buying multiple flats.
  2. If you like the gun, the furniture won't matter.  Nothing smoother than a wingmaster.

    1911 low down

The most reliable 1911 I have is the Remington R1. I bought one almost 5 years ago and it is by far the most gun for the money. That is compared to a 70 series Colt Commander and a Sig.
  4. I thought that was what the diaper changing station was for..........
  5. TN resident = TN permit  Also one of the most widely recognized permits by other states. Like OhShoot says, if you feel lucky with the possibility of fines, jail, and attorney fees, then don't worry about it.
  6. It looks to me you are comparing apples and oranges, meaning necked rifle cases vs. your pending prep for 9mm. I don't do rifle, but there is a lot more prep for rifle than pistol. I never trim my pistol cases. I wet tumble, before deprime. Dry brass, then reload. I don't normally use lube, and if I do it is a slight mist of Hornady One Shot just to ease the force...a little. With the carbide dies lube is not necessary. Nor are there the extra steps with your pistol rounds. I don't worry about cleaning off any of the One Shot either.
  7. Can't wait for part two as someone else is driving and he is using that technique to shoot on the move!
  8. I don't know if it is that out of line.  A membership at ORSA is $120 a year then $10 for most events or if a shotgunner additional money for targets.  Not complaining one bit.....fair prices.  To have the ability to hunt/fish just about everything/everywhere for $$45 more doesn't seem unreasonable to me.  I could probably seperate it out and get by on less, but I do like the convienience.  It has been a while since an increase.  Not sure about the increase in ammo sales either, since we were all just recently complaining about availability.
  9. It is certainly nice to have a 'minute of angle' shootin' iron.....but for self-defense not necessary. What you are looking for is reasonable grouping, sort of 'minute of man'. Your accuracy will come with practice, but for SD you are looking at making hits quickly, not dotting the "I". Look for fist size groups with speed. Actually you are better off to hit in 2 different spots rather than stack your shots....more tissue damage, and thus more leaks created. Reliability is just as important. Unlike Grunt, I have no ideas what if any SD situation I may find myself in, so I do factor in 'shoot-thru" to some degree.
  10. Lots of guns look pretty............but does it work?
  11. My Shield is the fastest 'point and shoot' gun I have.  Super at 10yds and under for quick shots.  I have carried mine for almost 2 years now in a Versa Carry.  Quick and easy to slip into the waistband and take off with absolutely no bulk.
  12. Well, COM is target #1, but, what about body armor, what about continued attack, what about other people around you?  Of course no one knows until the fecal matter hits the revolving blades.  The pelvis may be your best option.  It is still a 'frontal' view, less likely covered by armor, and highly sensitive.  Think taking the head shot is going to be easy and a stationary target....think again.  Just another tool in the tool box for SOME situations.
  13.   Missed uhh?......
  14. Pelvic shots are a very effective option and taught in many tac. classes.  COM is known for its quick target/hit probability but may be ineffective for several reasons.  Pelvic shots are taught because of almost immediate immobilization, pain if for no other reason, but also fractures and incapacitation.  Additionally in crowds, the downward trajectory is a consideration for possible shoot through and safety for by-standers.  So it is a very good option and has its place in defensive shooting.
  15. Some people get soooo excited over a little pimple.....
  16.   So is running out of bullets..........either tap, rack, flip or slam another mag in.  I'll stay with my semi-auto.
  17. 100 yd shots are certainly doable and as in this case needed at times. Not that difficult to hit a man size target. It is something that most don't practice though. Heck the average pistol owner seldom shoots past 7 yds, if at all.
  18. Such a tragedy and with Christmas Season.......Prayers for all involved.
  19.   That is a fairly broad and IMO, incorrect statement, but you are certainly entitled to your opinion.  Are there better choices, yes, for some people it may be their only workable choice because of inherent weakness, minimal experience at shooting, weapon size, comfort etc. or simply preference.  Rather than rehash go to http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/83554-a-9mm-aint-sht/
  20.   And good for her.  Let her carry what SHE is comfortable with.  She may want something different later, maybe not, but the important thing she recognizes the need and wants to carry.  A .22 is fine and certainly a good place to start.
  21. Really........ thank goodness, I can stop carrying this raging bull, my 50 cal rifle and my KaBar!
  22.   True that.......and thankfully it was the criminal that was killed and not the officer.  I am so pissed off at the media and general public who have no idea what happened; nor do they want to look at the facts presented to the Grand Jury.  Nor do they understand use of force, disparity of force, how fast one can close 30', or what they would do in a similar situation.......other than crap their pajamas.  It is a lynch mob mentality.  Not only do I feel sorry for officer Wilson, but to all LEO throughout the country that are being vilified.  It is only going to make their job much more difficult and dangerous.  But let one of these critics get their butt in a critical, life-threatening situation and guess who they will call on first?
  23. Ordered 1k rounds on 21st.  FedEx tracking says it will be here tomorrow.........5 Days!
  24. As a rule, nothing beats formal training.  As lowpower says, IDPA has a lot of folks shooting and will be helpful.......but only a handful run revolvers.  IDPA is a place to practice the skills you learn at classes, but it is not a substitute for classes.  They are NOT the same thing.  Some classes will be better than others.  No one class gives you everything you need to know and it is a building process.  Some will be repetitive; but that is not a bad thing.  In your case, especially if this is your first formal class, take your gun of preference.  I have taken the same class several times but have used different guns each time.  Your revolver will be slower with reloads......but much faster with malfunctions as these are minimal with a revolver.  So go and learn and have fun, then build on what you learn.
