It may help, but you may find yourself ingraining imperfect technique. Perfect practice is what every new shooter needs. Many businesses offer classes. Several places offer day classes or even better multiple days. Tactical Advantage in Knoxville has offerings. Cruel Hand Luke here on this board is also an excellent source for basic shooting on up to Advanced Gun-Fighting skills. I would suggest taking one or two classes every year from a variety of instructors.

 OS, yeah I can see what you mean.  But without getting wordy that was what 'Depends" was referring to along with 'immediate vicinity'.  I would imagine for the unclean-non permitted gun totin' individual the sign may be more correct.....but am not sure about that.  If my errant Frisbee hits a track athlete and I bend over to render aid and my carry piece shows there may be an issue as well.  Grey areas, vague laws for sure.  If the school shows up where I am it may be time to leave and rotate my shoe laces or something else important rather than tempt fate.  Sometimes the course of least resistance is better than becoming a court case. 

And from the beginning I agree with you on that point, it was really the hypothetical distance that makes the water muddy.

So, for instance, at Victor Ashe Park the high school cross country meet is held there.  I decide I want to play frisbee golf, or fish in the pond.  To me that would be off limits for carry as the running course puts me in the immediate vicinity of the athletes.  On the other hand, I could carry and watch a local club league play on the soccer field or adjacent softball field.  At least that is my understanding.  OS do you see it differently?

Understand it has been amended and that the language is vague.  That is why I mentioned the parking lot.  If kids are loading up on the school bus and one is carrying, you are in the immediate vicinity.  While the law is changed it can still get one in a bind which can lead to expensive days in court.  Do you not agree?  Also I did not agree with the sign totally.....I did start out with 'depends'.  Bottom line is that one cannot carry in a park and be in proximity to the students.......whatever or whoever is measuring distances that day.

Depends........on what the interpetation of 'immediate vicinity" means.  Will be best to recreate somewhere else if a school is using the property unless you have money to spend arguing your point in court.  Where they can really argue the point is if there is a common parking area.

Since I teach the carry course I try and stay on top of such topics.  According to someone very close with the local sherrifs office, an attorney, as well as the video put out by the state's DHS, no drinking is allowed while carrying a handgun.  It says nothing about a degree of impairment...says a ton about driving and impairment however.  It simply says you will lose your permit.  They also don't compare knives since you can only throw it once..sort of apples and oranges since no permit is required for your knife.  My statement is from my experience with the course and the safe bet.  I don't argue that you have some valid points........it's that the DHS can revoke your permit for drinking.....not impairment.

A solid answer....You cannot have a sip of alcohol and possess a handgun.  In fact, if you have a couple of beers and get stopped and blow anything or have the 'smell' of alcohol you will have a lot of trouble on your hands if you have a handgun readily available.

gonna have to call BS on that one.......too clean?......no way.  Now it is possible a grain of sand, etc may have found its way to the die and caused a scratch, especially if you are picking up range brass from gravel.  But I do SS/wet clean and never had an issue.

The walkthrough also reveals possible safety concerns which must be gone over.  It also gives the 1st shooter a reasonable idea about what is going to happen......Big difference if you are the 1st shooter.  It is no more a reality check than sporting clays is hunting.  Just a way to improve your skills.  But some really take it seriously, and that's OK within reason.

I agree with a lot of what you say except the broad and I think unsubstantiated statement that alcohol impaired gun handling is implied to be indicative of poor sober gun handling skills. It may certainly be the case for some, magnifying poor skills. However in some I would think it is apples and oranges.

Your firearm is a tool of last resort, check your ego, leave the area, avoid giving the finger, meaning the only reason to use your gun is keep from having a WORSE day; if you use it....it will be a bad day.  NO ALOCHOL....zilch, nadda, zero.  If you must have a drink unload and store your gun.  Firearm laws are very 'fluid'.  It is your responsibility to keep up with them.  TGO is a great place to do so.  Also be active with your State and US officials.  Let them know what legislation you are for or against.

Montana gold is a quality bullet for loading, but if memory serves me it is not a performance defensive round. Might want to reconsider your carry ammo.

significant disadvantage shooting any thrown target.  The longer the distance the more noticeable.  Especially in Sporting gun speed and momentum are factors.  That is why a lot of sporting guns have a minimum 30" bbl and a lot of 32s are seen.  Not as bad with skeet where 26 is fairly standard.  Trap guns again go for length.

The paper article seems to lead me to think the feds are not interested.....leaving it to the state. I can certainly live with the outcome and the current laws. Rare circumstances indeed. If anything needs to be changed it would be the sign/force of law issue.
