  1. And we are paying these legislators to waste good paper, ink, and bandwidth........
  2. So with hospitals posted, would one have a cause to sue if accosted in the parking lot, 1- if an employee or 2- private citizen? I can't say with certainty but it would seem so because the hospital IS posted. If not posted, then there would be no justification...right?
  3. Yes, I agree. Therefore in regard to employees, not applicable due to employee/employer relationship. Didn't expect anything more out of this legislative body. Maybe if say a nurse by example was attacked in the parking garage and she was unarmed due to policy, possibly an attorney may successfully argue her vulnerability by being 'disarmed' by that employee policy. It would seem the average person visiting a hospital would thus be protected by this new law, one way or the other.
  4. Just discussed this with a fellow employee today. My interpretation is no post = no liability........employee is not included because of previous discussions regarding the parking lot bill. Posted = acceptance of liability to include to and from car, if for example, that is where I kept my gun but did not carry it due to the posting. This line of thought also would lend some credibility to the lawsuit with the city of Knoxville and the fairgrounds in a roundabout way.
  5. I have shot up a 'Doc's" many times. Good guy and have talked to several that have taken classes with him. Seems to be well-thought of and I have met some very nice folks at his place. I would recommend him. You can also search his credentials at the TAC 2 web site.
  6. I appreciate the background on USMC. However I have had many prior service and ex LEO in my carry classes. Several have made very positive comments and evals about the class. They have actively participated in class discussions to the benefit of all. There is a lot of info for all that most would not get otherwise. You would be surprised how many are misinformed .about when one can actually display or use a firearm. So yes it does stink it is mandatory for a "right", but it is a cheap and useful course for the majority.
  7. Well, just how many people do, voluntarily, look up existing handgun laws? Few to any unless you are a TGO type person. I would also say that few in the military have had a 4 - hour HANDGUN class.....which is what the new law requires. Again, this would not include your basic rifle training. I am not for exceptions because the class is #1 about TN Laws, and #2 about firearms safety. To Omega, if your class did not cover safety and basic firearms care, then your class was not conducted according to TN state HCP guidelines. Heck, 99% of the people who take the HCP class never take anymore training. Most could be considered consciously ignorant because they should know better if the class emphasized the topics and need for additional training. Most however will not willfully take that personal responsibility. When you start making exceptions you weaken the overall purpose. Either everyone should have the basic course, or we simply have constitutional carry. Same goes for the carrying on campus. A full-time employee should not have anymore right to personal protection than I do.
  8. I edited my post.......can see where you are coming from. Nope, he was faculty. All's good.
  9. Had a student in my carry class recently tell me he was taking the class because of this new law. I think it would be a sure bet he is in the minority of his colleagues.
  10. Most think "bad things" may happen at home, or they are safe by simply avoiding bad areas. Actually just the opposite is true. 90% of attacks happen outside the home in the public arena. Likely to happen in daylight or well-lit area. One must develop and assume a carry life-style. You can't call time out to retrieve your gun.
  11. That is why I am a big fan of Hornady Spray Clean/Lube. IMO works great on trigger assembly, sear, and striker assemblies. Old posts comparing lubes and lubricity demonstrated outstanding results for this product. Been using it ever since and have not been disappointed. As far as the M&P platform, Hornady spray and a drop of Mobil 1 with a needle applicator on the frame 'ears' where the slide rides and you are good to go.
  12. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/06/19/ohio-gun-shop-owner-killed-during-concealed-carry-class.html
  13. Try a new strker assembly. Cheap try especially with your round count.
  14. Good for the administration of Chattanooga. Wish Knoxville had a mayor that abides by State law.
  15. I would work on the Bill Drill. Set a reasonable par time for your skill level....meaning don't push until you are all '0' hits. If bored, lessen the time. 3 seconds and under with '0' down, from the holster is right respectable.
  16. Correct..........almost identical to TN law for non-permit possession in the vehicle, excluding long guns.
  17. The Range bag at Academy is very similar to the Midway bag. Used mine going on 4 years now. Also like the NRA back pack.
  18. Exactly the same here. Had a 1050, perfectly happy with the LNL.
  19. Look at the ameriglo front sight. Shot. A 320 carry with those. For my old eyes liked it better than a dawson f/o. It was tritium surrounded by avivid orange. Ordered one for my FS 320. Shield may be next.
  20. 99cent app....Legal Heat gives good info.
  21. Some may like the bells and whistles....me, not so much. I think the Shield is damn near perfect as it is.
  22. Having just finished a course with Tom Givens, I'm pretty sure he would call BS on the gun firing by itself. He has investigated hundreds of shootings and simply states guns don't go off sitting in a drawer, shelf, table or holster without some outside interference. Dropping a modern firearm would also be very improbable for an AD unless someone grabbed for it. Not saying 'never' as it is a mechancical device, but given the tremendous number of firearms handled every day......unlikely.
  23. Hello, my name is chances R and I am an addict......a training addict. With some 340 hrs of various classes from over 20+ trainers I have tried to become more knowledgeable and a better marksman. All of my classes have been good to great; something learned and taken away from each of them so that I can hopefully help others especially in carry classes I conduct. Cruel Hand Luke is right up there at the top of list of trainers I have taken classes from. Others were 'operators', police instructors, former military, etc. Good training as I said, but this course is really about what 99.9 % of the 'carry' population need to know from A to Z. The past 3 days my step-daughter and I took the Rangemaster Instructor Class. Based out of Memphis and owned by Mr. Tom Givens, this man is the real deal. His credentials would take extra band-width. The man is a legend and he has trained with most of the other legends one could name. If you are an instructor, or simply want some hard-nosed, basic, but challenging training that will make you a better instructor and shooter, I would definitely recommend this course. Tom gives thorough explanations and reasons for why things are done or not. He has a wealth of experience and training with an excellent presentation that can help every shooter regardless of level. 800+ rounds in 3 days will keep you busy. Studying his 200 page manual with consume your time when you are not sleeping at the hotel. A challenging 90% or better is required in the FBI marksmanship course. Same is required in Tom's more stringent shooting test as well and the 86 question written test at the end of the course. There were 30 students in the class with varied backgrounds. Some from LEO departments or various agencies. Others owned training schools. Although not all passed all were exposed to some excellent training. I am extremely proud of my step-daughter who passed the course ( and as Tom said, was HOA Ladies class.....but then again she was the only female there :) ] She is a shooter, but not necessarily a 'gun nut' like most of us which was a little disadvantage. And yes, I passed as well so the drive home really wasn't that bad. As I said, anyone looking for excellent training should take advantage of this class or any other class offered by Rangemaster and Tom Givens.
  24. Have one in full size but the trigger, by my estimate, is close to 8#. Any 'kits' available? Or other suggestions?
  25. It is the exception for a HO policy / company to say they will cover you in a shooting. Most will say "it depends" because of the many varibles.
