Law of Self Defense 20 August 2016 @ Nashville Armory
chances R replied to ehull20000's topic in Training Discussions
Plan on being there as well.... -
IF the guy had some concern for the lady....different story; 'Ma'am, are you OK?. Can I help you?," combined with muzzle discipline. IMO, if the guy is 'on patrol' he is totally in the wrong. He is not the police, stay tight make a call to the local PD. I think that if we put ourselves in the woman's place this has the potential to be a very serious problem for someone.

Presentation, trigger finger discipline (off trigger until on target, trigger prep, trigger press,), sight alignment, focus on the front sight, follow-through........and doing it all PDQ at a speed that insures hits. Most everything else added tries to mess all of that up.

I have a standard R1 I bought 6 years ago. Have taken several classes with it and shot it a great deal. Has been trouble free and reliable.
-
You don't have to take my word for it. The owner of Rangemaster, Tom Givens, with nearly 40 YRS of teaching LEO at all levels including revolver only classes has seen them fail multiple times. That is just one reason the semiauto is the standard handgun now. All are mechanical devices and subject to failure .....big and small, that is why we practice malfunction drills. But with quality weapons and ammo the semiauto is more simplistic and reliable.

Firearms Insurance - Proof of Ownership on Inheritance Question
chances R replied to Hammer285's topic in General Chat
Of course insurance is important, but if you haven't already you need to invest in a safe. To me that is a priority over insurance. -
Wheel guns are NOT more reliable. You ever looked at the inside of one? Much like a watch........lots of small parts. When they lock up, they are really locked up. If you fall in the creek how is that wheel gun not going to get muddy too? In fact, you may be stuck up to your knees in mud and no way to access your gun. Quick swish in the water and most of your reliable autos should still be working. Now with that said, if you like your wheel gun you can keep your wheel gun (sound familiar?) Like others, I would carry another auto in same caliber like the 43, CM9 etc.

Last week I attended "Civilian Response Active Shooter Event (CRASE) presentation by Knoxville Division FBI". It is the concept of Avoid, Deny, and Defend. Lasted about 2 hours and had several presentations to include Columbine, Virginia Tech, and the nightclub fire which I believe was in Ohio. It is what law enforcement is moving to in general and from what they have learned from previous events. If interested simply call the Knoxville office and see where they can help you out.

If anyone has concerns on slide manipulations......simply go with a Beretta Tomcat. Small, a little heavy, but just flip the barrel to load and unload. Safety easy to manipulate. In about 5 minutes anyone can learn to safely manipulate/operate this gun. IMO one of the safest guns on the market because of its ease of use.

Not being familiar with the Germantown venue, my guess is referring to the 'parks' law ......maybe? Just behind the times. As with most, I have no problem with folks packin', my problem is that some insist on getting their loaded weapon out, inadvertently muzzling others while they show their gun off, try holsters, etc., etc.

should be an abundance of used pump shotguns around.....pawn shops, local sale newspaper, etc. Then as others have mentioned 870s and 500s should be going on sale with hunting season right around the corner.

A re-read of your post and follow-ups I think your mom has a good Defensive pistol, especially if she shoots it well. Sounds like she needs a good range gun to 'play'. Lots of choices whether revolvers or larger autos. A full size 9mm will be significantly different than her carry Kahr.
-
The problem is that too many shooters expect non-shooters to step up to the plate with no anxiety, no fear of recoil, and complete confidence to skillfully manipulate, properly grip and fire a handgun. This only develops fear, flinching and bad habits. Plenty of people have successfully defended and killed with a .22; both legally and illegally. Is that my choice of defensive caliber.....no, but neither is a handgun. Simply saying that because of the above, or weakness of grip and hands sometimes it is better to be able to confidently handle a .22 and become very proficient and confident, then step up to any other weapon of THEIR choice.
-
Different strokes.....plenty of full size carry guns have no restrike capability. Quality ammo almost never a problem.
-
If someone is looking for a fun gun to shoot, and shoot well, look at the.22 S&W compact. Gun cheap (300), ammo relatively cheap and now available. Also, with practice and training can be a very effective defensive weapon. Ten shots at normal defensive range can be put in the face, groin, COM in a couple of seconds. Quick reload, easy slide to manipulate.

IMO the 38 special revolver is the worst gun for most shooters.....UNLESS....they have shot one, like it, and want one. I have 'rescued' several shooters over the past several years that were given a 38 revolver to qualify in their handgun carry class. Mistake. While small and convenient to carry, they are hard to hold quickly and comfortably. Terrible double-action trigger pull that is at least 10 times the weight of the gun (wonder why you can't hit anything?). And most are limited to 5 shots. So I would look at the Kahr, Shield, LCP, 320 Compact, or even some of the Glocks.

S&W M&P 4" pro series. Will be OK for carry. Good all round gun. Can carry in his car. Durable, reliable, not terribly expensive, and should last a life-time.

No one has the right to block individual free movement on public roads PERIOD. I am all for moving slowly and let the masses move. There are plenty of sidewalks downtown.

Maybe Rachel Dolezal

Sort of like the "Trespassers will be shot" sign.....neither legal or effective.
-
The carry law in Illinois is essentially the same, for Tennesseeans, as our permitless vehicle carry. Handguns only.
-
That's what I thought........"Deja vu all over again"

What's up with this? Passed initially and was enacted July 1, 2014. The Knoxville paper says it goes into effect July 1, 2016, and fairly large article. We've cussed and discussed this numerous times.

About any Taurus semi auto. 709 failed for no good reason. Light primer strikes, finally Taurus, to their credit, replaced it. Sold it unfired. Have seen several different models choke and such during carry classes. Also a lot of Kimbers. Not saying never use a Kimber, but make sure you ring it out first. If a gun reliably works with a specific ammo, that does not black-list it for me, but can be a PIA. Especially in rimfires.

Well yes I am all for that, but as you mentioned that reason was not the genesis of the initial bill.
