As promised a couple of years ago the DOS has made a new course curriculum for the HCP. Very nice and should go a long way in standardizing the presentations across the state. In my review this slide caught my eye. Just thought I would throw it out for comments. Seems to counter what TCA 39-17-1307 (e)(1)(A) has said. And in addition I cannot see where 18USC - 922(g) prohibits. Thought?

Exactly.....that is why the exemption of HCP training for military is a bad idea. Now you have the 18 - 20 yo exemption as well. The military has a different mindset for firearm use vs. civilians. Additionally the exposure to State law is very important. Now if one was a MP, would be a little different.
-
I recommend everyone do this. Also a good source/reference for expert witnesses if needed. And hopefully, like your firearm, never needed.
-
One generally carries a weapon for the safety of themselves and family. Without training you are doing just the opposite plus endangering the public. Carrying a handgun is a huge responsibility that few take seriously enough to take real training. A carry class simply exposes one to applicable laws and is not firearms training. To carry and not train not only is risky to your health but your freedom. Mess up and possibly lose your freedom and spend your life in jail away from your family is not a good outcome.

Doubt the 2.0 will make me replace my Apex-out 5" pro. The Apex custom fit barrel is remarkable. Like DMark, the autoload 'feature' is not absolute. The standard M&P 45 is my favorite....a 5" version made with attention to details would be a real attention getter.

TN Lost Reciprocity With Washington State
chances R replied to 300winmag's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Some states are simply not strong carry states, especially where reciprocity is concerned. VA may be one that simply looks for an excuse to drop a state. We have certainly opened ourselves up to scrutiny and loss of stature. Anyone know of any move afoot for a 'fix' ? -
FYI, I called Nashville. National Guard/ Reserve included.

This crowd is certainly bored with nothing to do Guess it has been too cold to go shooting.

TN Lost Reciprocity With Washington State

Rightwinger, with your way of thinking, if you simply stay on your 'compound' why even mess with a state HCP anyway? You are perfectly legal on your own property and never have to venture out of your back yard. -
TN Lost Reciprocity With Washington State
chances R replied to 300winmag's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Well IMO this just sucks. Need to change the law back to the way it was. The Castle Doctrine applying to vehicle carry was enough for that age group. If that age group needs to carry on a military installation the commander can take care of that. -
The recent law change that includes military members age 18-20 got me thinking. Too cold to do much of anything else. I think most will agree there is minimal training for firearms in the military unless you are in a combat role MOS. Not a part of every members daily routine. Plus generally under supervision. Not including combat troops here for discussion. This does include National Guard and Reserve as the State includes them in this new law per my phone conversation with them yesterday. Sooooo, past LEO who have been on the job with no disciplinary issues, but have left the job; why can't they get a HCP in the same way as military? These individuals have generally had more training, carried a weapon routinely, and have knowledge of the law. At face value, IMO, much more ready to carry routinely than military personnel. Same thing for armed security guard? Competitive shooters? Where do you draw the line? The box has already been opened. I would be much more favorable for all if there was an on-line course that focused on the gun laws in TN.

HCP Holder Road Rage Murder/Suicide

This quote sums your actions up quite nicely,: ."Every conflict you are in when carrying a gun is now an armed conflict. Smart people avoid armed conflicts", Darryl Bolke I try to live by this and stress it to others. -
No surprise there.........

Some 18-21 yo join the military as an option to some judicial proceeding. All of that age are under strict supervision while serving, especially where firearms are concerned. Bottom line = bad law for most everyone that has HCP now. As previously mentioned, vehicle carry is legal for all, good enough until 21 IMO.

Definitely the 650 vs. the 550. The question is whether to go 650 vs. Hornady LNL. Both are progressive, both have idiosyncrasies. The LNL is cheaper. IMO no need for a case feeder, with the 650 getting the nod there should you choose that route. Neither is going to be an out of the box I'm reloading proposition. There will be a learning curve. The key is study up, go slow, ask questions here because most of us learned the hard way. IMO a progressive press is safer because of the auto-index. If you go single stage you will go progressive eventually, so save your money and start that way unless you see yourself using the SS for some definite work in the future.

Thanks OS for the reference . Most folks equate military service and the ability to shoot as synonymous . Not so. I agree that it is a bad law creating more problems for TN permit holders solving a problem that really wasn't a problem.
-
If one is active duty and I would venture to say in the national guard or reserve I bet they qualify. Not supporting that but would not surprise me.
-
Haven't read all the changes, but wasn't there a provision that automatically revokes reciprocity if a state decides TN HCP is not valid, therefore TN in turn does the same.
-
I can certainly see why other states look at this negatively. Two negatives..... no training on the law plus the age. Overall it will have a negative effect on traveling Tennesseans and it will be interesting to see how this age group impacts the overall image of Tennessee HCP holders
-
I routinely use Hornady clean and lube for most applications topped with a little bit of mobil1 where "wetness" is needed.
-
TN only has one kind of permit so can't see how that would affect reciprocity by simply an extension of expiration date.
-
Correct and not predictable. That is why I generally use the slide lock release as it is less cumbersome than starting to reach over for the slide and it has already released.
-
The M&P is almost famous for its 'auto-forward'. I use mine routinely for IDPA and prefer hitting the slide lock IF it does not go forward automatically. Hand wise it is more convenient. I also know that occasionally it fails to pick up a round....more of an exception. Which of course requires the usual slide manipulation. Even so, it is not a big deal one way or the other.
