  1. Or change my plans altogether. Or, at least carry a long gun.
  2. Chris Vittetoe....865-237-2547 Long-time smith. He has done a lot for me and my friends.
  3. Good job! Been there done that. Tom’s the real deal. Certainly not a show up and give-me course.
  4. I assume you are reloading? Message me your address and I’ll send you what I have.
  5. you've got extra grip panels.....easy to replace, give it a try.
  6. you can take sandpaper and lightly sand the grip to your comfort.
  7. Proficiency and having your firearm on you is really what matters. I have yet to find anyone willing to hold targets for me while I shoot my .22.
  8. As long as all involved are legally able to possess the firearm I see nothing illegal. Handguns need to be done as an in state transaction. Long guns can be done via USPS with reasonable cost as another option.
  9. If your TN permit is still 'in date' or lifetime, when you get a TN DL your permit will be valid, just ask for a new replacement. If expired, will have to repeat the class for the ECP.
  10. 1st quess firing pin channel gummed up causing it to stick....but dangerous situation. Get it checked by gunsmith.
  11. Safe bet is follow FBI. Last I heard was Gold Dot. I would also consider Critical defense, and HST with gun function a primary consideration.
  12. Defunct, I carry an 1.0 shield routinely. Desantis Peagasus IWB holster which is also tuckable. Usually at 4 position. But works for me AIWB as well. I sometimes carry the Canik SC both ways as well; it has an Sig X dot and use a C&G holster. The Canik is a little more bulky. Just remember, higher capacity comes with more weight.
  13. I find it alarming that armed teachers are a threat to the students.....but it is really the indoctrination that some teachers spew to the students where the most harm comes from.
  14. I agree with your first assessment. However ECP is no where near enough training to permit teacher/staff carry. It is a start but not for stand alone training.
  15. Note over 500 schools DO NOT have a SRO. Many schools are in rural areas and have delayed response times not to mention staff shortage. Response time is proportional to body count. TN has had armed teacher provision for the past 8 yrs in private schools, and over 30 states have it already. Point is, no student/ teacher mishaps have bee reported. All the uproar in opposition is the typical anti theatrics. Interesting to note that individual districts will bow to local politics and opt out of teacher carry completely.
  16. I read TFA's breakdown of the bill. I think very few teachers will spend their own dime and time to meet all of the qualifications. There will also be some 'anti' pressure and responsibility concerns. With that said, this bill also will change the private school requirements. It will be a wait and see situation but it is not as most of us would want it, nor as bad as those who oppose it think it is.
  17. I understand the shortcomings of the serpa, But I think the situation of the OP is an exception to its use. If doing tractor work etc, that’s what I use. It is not a training holster nor for SD routine. OK , blast/ roast away.
  18. TN is not inventing anything new here. Private schools have had the option to permit carry for several years. State universities have allowed it as well for all employees. 33 states allow teachers to carry. I understand all the concern, and teacher carry is not the only answer. Hardened facilities will help. But I would rather have a teacher that is willing to carry and of course that participates in routine training in place than not. It is well documented that response time is proportional to body count. We are our own 1st responder, not surprisingly, no blood in the hallways in the above examples. Just like the concern over the guns in trunk bill, or guns in bar bills.
  19. Gov doesn’t have to sign it. Unless he vetos, it becomes law in 10 days without signature.
  20. I keep a small ammo can of loaded AR mags loaded for emergencies. Nothing is slower and bad practice as trying to load mags when you need to be shooting. Also I keep them downloaded in case of a needed speed or tac reload. Fully loaded mags can be difficult if not impossible to insert with a closed bolt.
  21. I’ve used thousands and have 12K waiting to go to work
  22. I have always been in favor of arming teachers that volunteer to do so. Vetted by the principal, vetted and trained by county sherriff. Would have rotating mandatory schedule for carry. Must always be on person. Private schools have had this perogative for years.
  23. I had a similar problem with a Canik. Problem was with aggressive draw stroke the edge of my Kydex would bump the mag release. Hair dryer on that portion of the holster and rolled a sharpie over the edge flared it out enough to solve the problem. Don't know if this fits your situation. My 1.0 compact is one of my favorite M&Ps.
  24. Partial knee replacement is not for everyone. The knee is comprised of 3 compartments. If the medial or lateral compartment is the only one involved, then yes a partial may be helpful. But if more than one involved, then not the solution.
  25. Very few of us started shooting large caliber handguns initially. Most started with .410s or .22 rifles. We became accustomed to light recoil, the bang, and gained confidence and mover on to other calibers. That is the same situation with today's new shooters. A lifelong avoidance of firearms, tales of a gun knocking you on your butt. Videos of people being pranked by shooting larger guns, etc. IMO it is a must to start out with .22, either rifle or handguns. Become accustomed to things going bang and no discomfort. The .22 is an acceptable SD gun, especially for new shooters and even more so in experienced hands. Once the new shooter has decent skills and comfort they can move to different calibers if they so choose, not because some 'experienced' old hand said this is what you need and in doing so causes more fear and hampers the progress of a new shooter. All this said as the .38 revolver is a poor starter gun.
