In SD you probably won't be getting a sharp focus anyway. Most people from what I have read don't remember seeing the sights. If you go red dot and shoot/practice a lot, you will probably be seeing the target through the window at SD distances without much attention to the dot. Really comes in handy for distance, 7-10+ yds and IMO much quicker target acquisition.

David Smith there in Farragut.....behind Fisher Tire.

Sig no longer carries it. Was made by another company for Sig (GSX or something) they make it but there was a reason Sig dropped it. S&W compact, or victory good choices. The ruger Mark series. Academy has the SA Heritage for $129 for starters.

plenty of folks carry full size guns......dress around the gun.

employees of an University may carry with the ECP. There may be additional restrictions on reciprocity, especially after other state legislatures settle back down post Covid. The two classes are really apples and oranges with neither being a full course meal.

if not mistaken one needs a ham radio license, and take a course with some costs.

Key word, "COULD". The country is much bigger than TGO. Many first time gun owners which means in all likely hood they were not raised around other gun owners. Literally the dumbing down of society in that regard. There is no doubt well trained, qualified instructors will do a better job at this. Anybody here tried to teach their wife anything, like tennis or other activities? Professional instruction is generally better received and effective.

I believe in personal responsibility...so you see how that works, people won’t even do something simple like wear a mask and you think they will get firearms training ?

Chris Vittetoe can mill your slide in Knoxville. Don't overlooke the value in a Holosun.

what are you asking for the primers?
-
If you can't invest 8 hrs in yourself for a possible life changing event, then one shouldn't carry at all IMO. Especially if one is a novice.

how many and what brand primer?

Oh my. Very sad news indeed...I thought he was getting better. Dang it. Wish I had known him better. Definitely will miss his input. Condolences and prayers to family and friends.

IMO an adjustable charge bar is a must, you always adjust it by increasing the wt whether it is shot or powder. Otherwise you are going to have quite a collection of bushings. I would also recommend that you stick to AA and Remington STS and Nitro hulls for simplicity. Rem Gun Clubs will load identically as well. I use almost exclusively 1oz loads for target games. These cross over well for dove, quail, snipe, etc. Back when I did load a lot of Pheasant loads. When hevishot wasn't so darn expensive use to load a lot of that as well.

The SCCY has the 3 dot sights are they are adequate for a SD gun. It is not intended to be a target gun with the long, heavy pull. But with that said, if you can hold the sights steady it will do the job and will help you become a better shot with guns that do have better triggers.

most SD shootings occur at a range of 3 yds or less. Simply a point and shoot from retention without relying on the sights...hence the term 'belly gun'. I own 2 SCCYs and they are a grab and go type gun. I have given 6 or so of them away for gifts and know of several other friends that shoot theirs routinely. They are accurate, dependable, and safe due to a 9# trigger. IMO, best gun for the money ($200). However, most of the time my carry gun is a 9C Smith or a Shield.

Hand twisting an appropriate sized drillbit in the gas ports helps clean them out as well. Also you might need to take your cleaning brush and some extra fine steel wool and polish your chamber. Sometimes sticky extraction is a problem.

most semiautos should handle and function with 1oz. 1250fps loads just fine. I've worn several shotguns out on this load.

MEC 9000G if you can find one used. Problem now is the cost of lead. Has to be below $30 bucks or so a bag to really make it worthwhile.

I'm not normally a Taurus fan, but given the choice, I'd take it. .38 option, SA/DA, little bigger stock to grip.

yes, a lot of difference in patients as well as elective procedures vs. traumatic events.

A lot of our joints are done now as an outpatient; in and out same day. Prayers for speedy recovery.

I started out with a Lortone Rock Tumbler that did a good job for about 7 years. Wanted a new one, so I sold the Lortone and tried a FA. They have two models and the bigger one was just a little 'tall' for where I wanted to use it. The Hornady has a lower profile and I like the way it looks and works. Can't go wrong with either one. I like the SSpins and I generally run a load of several hundred 9mm brass with just a drop of dawn and a teaspoon of lemon shine for about an hour. Rinse and run another hour with RCBS brass cleaner. I don't rinse the brass cleaner; simply separate and put in the dehydrator to dry. It leaves a coating that helps prevent tarnish. I like my brass shiny and looking new.

true for all rifles IMO. buy several different brands and wts. Shoot 3 -5 shots not worrying about POI. Once you find the best group, then zero the scope and for precision shooting stock up on that particular brand, wt, and lot number.

You will need to talk to a range owner, or have your own range. Either way, the range and classroom have to be inspected/approved by the state.
