Don't believe everything you read.....especially from a reporter or a politician:koolaid:

This is why I carry..especailly at night
chances R replied to lock n' load's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That's OK with me....at least it is now on my terms. It is just plain rude to point a gun at someone, and I can't stand rudeness......... -
I think most are in agreement that for SD purpose, grouping as in target shooting has little relevance. In fact, if you can get a tight group on a COM target, you should probably increase your speed. Two shots together generally are less effective in stoppage than if they were spread out, damaging more and different organs and soft tissue. Don't buy into single shot stoppage. Many reports show multiple hit adversaries that continue to fight, and kill, with otherwise lethal hits. I would say work on the combination of accuracy first, then increase your speed at normal 'confrontational' distances.

Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else.....but seemed appropriate for training. Good reminder

need gunsmith in knox or roane county

Yep......+1 -
I would say "it's a Sigma". You have a very good, reliable SD gun. There has been much written about the trigger and mods. Also much written about unpredictable results and loss of reliability. I would either keep it the way it is and buy another gun for more 'range work' that you really like, or simply sell the Sigma, put the extra cash for parts and trigger work into the new gun. Overall, I still think for the money, as a SD gun, the Sigma is the best buy.

That would be 'impossible' rather than hard.

Shop around. I got mine for a ridiculous price. Couldn't get another that way, but heck, for all I've paid in the past....I was overdue:p

I bought the R1 Remington in Oct 2010. Just a basic 1911 that had several favorable reviews by the the gun mags. I had put near 1,000 rds through it before going to Front Sight. Shot the entire 4DDHC without a failure (600rds). Two months later repeated the same course, and again no failures of any kind. Of course this is all with 230 gr. FMJ. It will hiccup with FTF on ocassion with 200gr. SWC. However it has handled 200gr. Jacketed TC without any problems. It is a fine shooting gun, especially given the price. If you want a 1911, this would be a good choice. Also, with this gun Remington offers it Platinum Service, which in the first year they will inspect and clean the gun at no charge; this includes all shipping. I sent mine in this past Monday, Jun 13, and got it back today. Not bad! Posts: 8Joined: Fri May 06, 2011 9:27 am Private message

What are the rules for shooting on your own property?
chances R replied to a topic in Training Discussions
12. It is unlawful to hunt, shoot at, chase, or kill any wild animal, wild bird or wildfowl on public lands and waters within 100 yards of a visible dwelling house, without the owner’s permission, whether or not such a dwelling is on public or private lands. Above is from the TWRA hunting guidelines. One cannot shoot across a road, as well. I am not certain how this pertains to simple target practice, but I can't see it being much different, regardless of what one would be shooting as long as you're on your property and not endangering others. -
buying beer while carrying

REALLY? You're serious!? Auto accidents, cancer, Military service....either you are not old enough to be using the computer, or simply don't get out much. -
appreciate the additional info. The way it sounded I thought she had no gun experience. A very simple gun to operate is the Beretta Tomcat. Flip barrel, no slide to rack to load or unload. Minimal recoil, small and easy reload with extra mag.

I'm not sure either is a good option. Regardless of age, which can be a factor, without proper training, no one should rely on a gun for SD. As we all tend to drop off both mentally and physically, just the fact-of-life, I would much prefer she have some sort of panic alarm system available, especially for falls and other medical situations which are much more likely to occur and just as life threatening.

bought and sold several firearms through the years. If there are no legal requirements, and there are not, don't make it anymore complicated.......the last thing I want to do is act like the gov'ment.

Writing a letter CAN make a difference!
chances R replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Way to go. Great letter. If you don't care I may borrow a few lines. -
There are a lot of good guns out there for the money. I shoot the heck out of a Remington R1. Got a couple of buddies that love their Taurus. If you are simply looking for a shooter/SD gun, don't get too hung up on fit and finish. It sometimes comes at the expense of reliability. Most any of the 1911s mentioned are considerably more accurate than the shooters. Go to a show, handle a few, pull the triggers, then make your jump.

Close Range Gunfighting April 30-May1 Chattanooga
chances R replied to Cruel Hand Luke's topic in Training Discussions
Double Bummer! Of course I understand. Lots of people with bigger problems in Chattanooga Area and into Alabama. But sure was looking forward to the class. UNforunately, got another course to attend on the proposed make-up date. Sure hope they have another class in the area soon. -

I am with the majority here. Heck, I couldn't even get my 22/45 apart completely...just didn't like beating it with a hammer to do so. Finally got it back together to shoot and will now simply use a bore snake, gun scrubber, and a little eezox lube. But is a great shooter! This months GUN TESTS magazine agrees.

Legalized Gun Carry - Does it Promote or Mitigate Crime?
chances R replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Just a sidebar: Everyone noticed the increase in shoot-outs since the famous " guns-in-bars" bill has passed.....NOT. Why don't we hear of any follow-up reports by the news about this. Trial going on in Knoxville about a guy that came in looking for trouble and killed a patron. Of course we don't hear about simple SD situations with legal carry now either. -
That's what you get when you use your medication for sights:screwy:

If shooting Brown Bear or Silver helps you spend more time at the range....shoot it. Cleaning your gun is a small price to pay. I shoot a bunch of 223 and never had any issues. Reliable and good accuracy. The US used a lot of steel case ammo in WWII and the 45's it was used in still work today. Now Hornady is making steel cased ammo.
