I always check the box to stay logged in but sometimes I have to sign back in. I just figure it's the forum software. We aren't supposed to know this but....Less than a year after David created this place, at 2:14 am Eastern time on August 29 something weird happened here at TGO. ....but I've said too much already.

Time for a game of Good idea/Bad idea.

You have the standard model of these right? Then you know what complex little booger it is inder the hood. There is almost NO room under the forearm and it is quite thin too. I have pondered this but the wood would have to be slightly counter bored on the inside for the major diameter of the insert to sit down and clear the workings. Before I make a final call, I will study about that again though. Thanks red. -

I wouldn't be tapping the bolt. I would be tapping the end of the long nut that holds the forearm on. Not sure why they made it so long but I would make another on just a wee bit longer so it would protrude out the end of the stock. Basically the swivel would be in the end of a piece of steel, 1/2 inch in diameter and about 2 inches long. Then, that piece would slide into the forearm and thread onto the stud on the gas block. I got time, I think I'll just make one and take some pictures of how it'll work, then get y'all's opinion of that. -

Yeah, Torino, they said I can drill all the holes I want in the stock for a sling. As I said, my biggest concern ain't the stud holding, it's the gas block itself. Even though it's dovetailed in pretty strong, I wonder about it. The way the guide rod rides in the short piston, I'd hate to pull on it and get it out of alignment. -
The POW/MIA flag is extremely popular with the biker crowd. Remember the PETA guy who crashed a biker party and berated them for wearing leather? Then got duck taped to a tree and pissed on! Definitely poking the wrong bear with this one.

Yep, just a carry strap. The stud is 8mm maybe? I'm betting it's metric. The gas block is dovetailed into the barrel. Johnson, a wraparound would never work. Two magazines worth and you will not touch the barrel....well...you won't do it twice. -
Okay, so I am loving my new rifle, an FN FNAR Competition. Looks like: Well, in FN's infinite wisdom, they neglected to put ANY function for a sling on it. What the heck kinda "COMPETITION" rifle runs without a sling. Madness!!! Anyway, the rear is simple enough, just drill into the wood and screw one in. The front? Not so much. The front wood is very thin. Far to fragile even if you were to put a metal support in there. MAYBE if I could run a plate on the inside to thread into but there is NO room because of the operating rod assembly and gas block. Just can't be done with any rigidity and I don't want to monkey around too much and void a warranty. SO, here's my idea. The forearm is held in place with a cylindrical nut about 1/2" in diameter and about an 1 1/2" long. It goes in from the FRONT of the forearm and threads onto a stud that is threaded into the gas block itself. The gas block is a rather beefy affair that is dovetailed into the barrel. What I could do is make a new nut by turning a piece of 4140 and make it about a 1/2" longer so it sticks out the front of the forearm. Then attach my sling there with some type of rotating swivel. Maybe even a banjo style fitting like you use on the magazine cap of a shotgun. Here's the conundrum; Am I asking for trouble putting pressure on that gas block? I won't be using it as a shooting type sling, I don't shoot like that and wouldn't consider it with this set up as it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on things. BUT, it will undoubtedly put a good bit of pressure on it just using it to tote the rifle around. My only other option is to run a band on the barrel like a safari style attachment. DO NOT want to do that because I have talked with FN and they are VERY particular about their barrels. ANY modification whatsoever voids the lifetime warranty. I know because I asked. I wanted to thread this rifle for a suppressor. They said emphatically NO.

You're kind of a SKS whore ain't you? :)

Wow, they're really bringing that much money now? Dang!

I suck because I just can't shoot very well.

Awesome Luke!!! you built an Interociter.

Tell that to some black family who's son never came home from defending our freedom. I hope all these people die on the same short bus they ride on.

Go full bore and wear the plastic hose on your face!

Call me crazy, but the .458 Winchester actually makes more sense that all the other belted magnums for most of us. 99% of us will never actually need the added power they provide nor be able to actually utilize it. The .458 though is like a very large displacement big block with low compression, mild cam and a three stage nitrous system. No matter how you go about it, it's gonna eat a good bit of fuel....but, it only gets rowdy when you stomp on it and still performs extremely well on the bottom end WITHOUT stomping it. There are .460(ish) diameter molds in weights from 250g to over 600! You can dial the thing back to something as gentle as a trapdoor 45/70 with a case full of Trailboss and kill anything around TN including bears. OR, you throttle up and take anything Africa has to offer. One could use round ball for even smaller critters, they're around 150g. You can even make shotshells for it with some shot cards and small shot. I've done this with .450 Marlin. The rifling makes patterns suck after 10 or 15 yards but that's a squirrel getter for sure.

Yeah! Texas Roadhouse. That was the place. Right across from the mall. I just can't hack all them dam waitresses dancing around. Good god, I just wanna eat in peace.

This fall/winter, once you've had enough of your self induced asswhippin' gimme a holler. I'll be back in front of my lead pot when it cools off. I have a 405g hollow base or a 455g flat point. I might even size and lube 'em for ya. Stuff them over 20.0-22.0g or so of Unique and you'll get around 1,500-1,600 fps. No deer in TN will survive the hit. You on the other hand, can shoot that load all day long.

Make yourself a Photobucket account. That's what most of us do. ...and congrads on the Tikka. They make very nice stuff. Do be sure and get a pic up. We love us some pictures.

I very rarely encounter a temp issue. I'm fairly flexible, medium is how I like it but a little over or under doesn't bother me at all. It's just the taste and tenderness is all over the map. Kinda like they don't use the same supplier all the time. Using multiple distributors may save you a buck or two but it's makes consistency nigh impossible.

Been to more than half the places listed thus far. It's not so much the quality....it's the repetition of said quality. I've eat at Stoney river a few times. First time was awesome, second time was mediocre at best. The last time was an absolute waste. I coulda done better and I suck on the grillin chores. We stopped at some roadhouse place in Clarksville once. The steak was one of the best I ever had.....all the waiters and waitresses pausing to dance in aisles every 15 minutes to some godforsaken heehaw music played so loud I couldn't even hear my wife cussin about it. .....good food or not that sucked. I bet I go back and the meat will be on par with Oscar Meyer. There's just no continuity in the play I've been thus far.....or they're so expensive it ain't worth it. I don't mind $20-25 or so for the meat but no steak is worth the $35+++ some places charge. Anything over $50-60 for me and the wife is just stupid. That's just me though.

That's where all the cool kids here on TGO live. Western and western/middle .......well, we get by I suppose.

Hozzie has a Savage with a scope listed here on TGO. Might look at it first.

Before you buy, look at Ruger's new precision rifle. It's the cats meow! Multi magazine capable to boot!
