  1. Interesting, yes. ...but...silly. Why stuff extra weight on your weapon? That's what your pack is for. I see what he's trying to accomplish there, but:shrug: Take for instance the saw. Who wants to saw a tree limb holding a 12g like that? I don't care if it IS unloaded. If you pack a small folding blade pruning saw, available at any hardware store, you'd get better results. I don't even want to get started on how useless that KaBar mini bayonet is. Fun to look at and even fun to play with but far from practical. I will say though, I liked the sling made of paracord. That's a good idea provided it's actually comfortable.

Get you a 2x6 and start a bunch of roofing nails in but only about halfway. using a 22, drive the nails all the way in.
  3. Not to sound tacky, but I'd waller around in the grass in my boxer shorts (only) if it was 40 degrees outside.
  4. This is a somewhat depressing thread. I considered it a great personal achievement having finally processed the last of a five gallon bucket full of 9mm brass. Talk of weight loss and marathons all the while I complain of heat waves and having to get up on time. *sigh*
  5. Not AS bad today, but it's still too darn hot. Man that west slope must be arctic if it's barely livable. I function perfectly down as low high 20's low 30's. I swear if I were straight out of high school all over again, I'd take a college course for Russian, pack me up a good supply of "THINGS", buy a couple of Mosins and disappear into eastern Russia close to Alaska, never to be found again. No one to bother you but arthritis, bears and wolves. Yes I hate the heat that bad. Richard Louis "Dick" Proenneke was and is my hero.
  6. I looked where I thought they'd be, but my shop is a disaster. After work this evening I'll do some diggin. Oh BTW, yes you absolutely have to shoot it! Just some light bunny fart loads, but you gotta shoot it at least a few times. It's a moral imperative!
  7. Hardly, although they should be. Criminals can and do get prosecuted. They serve sentences and pay fines. ATF? Not so much.
  8. I don't know why any gun related dealer would ever even consider not being the MOST helpful a human can be. Name one group of people as tenacious and unforgiving as gun owners. It doesn't even take truth! One good interwebz rumor and someone will get blackballed. As my pawpaw used to say, "They're sh!!!ng in their own nest" Not that I would have been ordering from them anytime soon, but the next time I happen across them while shopping, the chances I pass over them and look elsewhere are high.
  9. Well, worst case scenario and this turn bad, couldn't we still buy the bullets themselves? (still talking about the ss109 ect) After all, we could load them in 22-250 or 220 swift ect. Well that is until the ATF sees a 22-250 in Remington XP100!
  10. Man can them fella's move quick!
  11. SS109 becomes illegal to have??? If the 5,56 is declared a pistol round, aren't AP pistol rounds a no no?
  12. If you are that fast and they get it on camera (they would in a Taco bell) I can see some jack leg court trying you the same way they try a special forces or professional fighter. He was a highly trained individual....blah, blah.
  13. This has always seemed a trivial argument to me. Just learn to place your shots center mass, every time, preferably in the 4 inch heart area. I don't know if I buy the argument that caliber doesn't matter but it cannot be denied that a 9mm to the chest beats a 20mm that missed.
  14. Rest in Peace old buddy.
  15. The gentleman who gave me my permit course over a decade ago has since passed away, but his range was under the big powerlines. The shooting part of our test was over right at dusk. I watched in amazement as he began to knock over bowling pins at 80 yards with a Colt woodsman..22LR people! I mean as fast as I could have done so with a rifle. He then stood under the tower, which due to the terrain, put the lines rather close to the ground and held florescent light bulb aloft like a sword and it actually began to light up. I'd never seen that before!!!! We then went into his living room to watch the video, his wife came out with a pitcher of lemonade, and a sheet of cookies from the oven and watched the video. Funny, right before something "important" was being said he would always clear his throat rather loudly:)
  16. I don't see how any law could change anything. Why is it that the supposed 'intellectuals' in charge lack the sense to understand....Those drug lords??? They are billionaires!!!! Hey guess what!?!!? A billionaire gets what a billionaire wants and it doesn't matter who likes it or don't. You CANNOT stop that kind of wealth/power from acquiring material goods. It may cost them more, but what do they care, they can just throw millions at it!
  17. Yeah, I know, I know. I'm more so venting and spouting off at the mouth. The solid fact is that nothing is going to change drastically, for the better. It's not Obama's fault or the last pres or the next. Career politicians have the game in the bag. Just overlook me and my maniacal ramblings. You ever notice freedom never works and oppression is never tolerated? So what's the deal? People just cannot get along, they never have, they never will. All the peace and love hippy rhetoric will never happen, mankind does not have the capacity to get along despite differences. So dummies like me rant on with fantasized ideas about what might work...meanwhile nothing ever changes. Nothing ever will. From my obviously limited education, I've only ever read about long term stability comes from an absolute monarchy. No one wants that, but when one person makes decisions, at the least, something actually gets done. Can't get anything done around here [uS] what for trying not to offend some interest group. The biggest problem with any monarchy is that absolute power corrupts absolutely. SO we are back where we started; man's inability.
  18. *Edit* Think before I type. Not everything needs to shared.

    .300 BLK?

Well, if you use MidwayUSA as a guide, I think you are right on. Dies, brass, headspace gauges ECT. All say out of stock, or coming soon. I think I am going to go for it, but I'm going to paddle slowly until Lee releases their dies, crimp die and trim tooling.
  20. That wouldn't be a bad thing if it weren't for all the other people on the island with you. I envy Tom Hanks and his volley ball quite a bit.
  21. I've already replied but I've been thinking about this a bit. I think the best group you can shoot is the one that brings peace. That can be peace of mind or peace to a situation or peace in pleasure of just being happy with what you've accomplished.
  22. Personally, I like about 40-50 degrees. You gotta put on a light jacket, but if you're workin', you're good. If you stand around you might get a chill, but hey!, quit standin' around and get busy doin' something.
  23. For those who don't know....This is one of the coolest lowers on the street! Personally I like to take my merry sweet time on assembly. Like a 'smith from days of yore crafting a sword. So I am working over the trigger today, it's a good inside desk job in between customers. I decided to go ahead and install the take down pins. The front is as normal. The rear though....someone needs a pay raise for this!!! They put a set screw in there to hold the spring and detent. Was that really that hard? No. Is it really helpful and much appreciated? Yes! There's also another set screw next to the tapped hole for the grip screw. It allows you to put tension against the upper for zero movement. Wow. Simple things, huh? I'm soundin' like a salesman here, but consider Tactical Innovations for your next build.
  24. So, am I wasting my time with a DPMS trigger group? I traded for a good bunch of parts and they are all new. I put the DPMS trigger group together in my Tactical Innovations lower to see what I had. Now, the last two AR's I built must've been super luck, the triggers were great!! This one sucks BIG TIME. I think it's about 40lbs and even though I stoned all the rough edges out using Gesswein stones (left over from when I used to work in Tool & Die) I took great care not to change any angles or remove any material more than necessary to smooth out the tooling marks. It still sucks. I'm going to bend the hammer spring a bit to bring it parallel with the hammer, and take a little more pains polishing the surface. I don't mind if I scrap them, but I'd rather not. Are they even worth fooling with, or should choke on the cash it takes get a drop in unit. Usually I am not excessively anal about the perfect trigger like some people, but my SP101 in double action mode feels better than this. ..and yes I know lots of people can do this for me, but that really defeats the "I built this" doesn't it?
