  1. May not be able to spray 'em out like an AK or AR, but I tell you, a lever gun and a few boxes of ammo tucked away in the truck will get you a lot less grief in a traffic stop than an AR15. A lever gun in 45LC (and .357 mag) would put a devastating whallop on a fella too up close. It would also be harder for the media to demonize an old Winchester than it would be if you used a more "modern" rifle.
  2. If he's half way decent with it, I wouldn't wanna be on the other end.
  3. No it's not hard at all. I also know people who do, and personally I haven't made up my mind on the whole cast/polygonal thing, but I do choose to err on the side of caution.
  4. Yep, that's why I am an XD man.
  5. Well, The H&K would certainly be a candidate were it not for that dang polygonal rifling! See my name;)
  6. Touche!
  7. None of those things are a benefit to me. I have large hands, and the Glocks I have held feel really good. My XD, even better.
  8. Well this is just one of those age old arguments that never seem to die, but one (and I think legitimate) question is; Putting personal taste aside (because that's the biggest part of all this) What does the 1911 have to offer that the plastic fantastic cannot offer? The answer is simple. Nothing. Nothing except the personal pride one feels in what he chooses.
  9. You're right to be that way. It's a dangerous path; The things I was talking about. BUT, people really do need to think. It needs to be a public service announcement like smoking. Tobacco is a killer, and everyone needs to know the whole truth, BUT you have EVERY RIGHT to smoke if you choose. It just needs be an informed decision. All this is one reason I am VERY pro adoption. Surprising to some whom I have discussed this with though, I am even more so AGAINST abortion (premeditated murder of a child in my book). I want to see population control through wisdom and good choices, but that's just asking too much from a stupid and lazy public. Ya'll be safe and Be well. †††
  10. ^ He's right again. If you want to invest right now, invest in something you can hold in your hand ANYTIME you want to or invest in yourself skill and health wise. I'm spending money I wouldn't normally spend to get myself in better physical shape and the rest I put into things I can go lay my hands on right now. I don't like gold, the value is too high, and hard to trade in a barter system. Silver is a better bet. Also, don't forget copper! Pre '83 pennies will be worth (and are now!!!) substantially more than face value.
  11. Well there's a private class 1-5 as Bigwakes said, I'd like to see a bigger turnout. Everyone wanna shoot for next Sunday? That would give plenty of time to everyone to plan ahead.
  12. Don't make much sense. Worried about stability, why would you buy ANYTHING gov. backed? People are better off buying non perishable commodities, and silver.
  13. You want real wanton waste in TN? It's not poor harvesting practices on the part of the hunter. It's natural resources and land being vacuumed up by too dang many people. The reason some believe animals such as the coyote to be a problem is not because they are actually a problem, it's because they have no where else to go because the home they've had for hundreds of years is now paved with a walgreens on it. Want to reduce wanton waste, balance the animal population and have a good hunting season most every year? Reduce the people population or at least make people stop breeding more.
  14. Excellent post. Truth all the way, and I'm not a Glock man. I'm in the XD camp. I seriously want a Glock, but I have erred on the side of caution when it comes to cast bullets. I know people who shoot them in a Glock but I will still not take the chance. One day I will likely find myself buying a Glock and Lone wolf barrel, till then, the XD and the Glock are basically equals I think. Both superior in many ways to other designs.
  15. Everyone is a suspect, Even grandma on her walker. Just because your not paranoid, don't mean they're not after you. Now I suppose there's an extreme to that; Too much. BUT, you can live your life, be happy, and watch every meat suit in range of you while in public. Tell you a little thing my and the wife do, just pick a random meaningless word and know each other well. We can be walking around anywhere talking about ??? and I can say "look at this gumby" and she knows me well enough to intuit who I am referring and without "LOOKING" keep an eye on that person. We profile heavily. We don't care if that upsets the PC crowd. In an elevator with Habeeb, his every move is critiqued my the both of us. If that makes him feel uncomfortable, he can tell someone who gives a crap. Skin head on the escalator? You know, you can blend in with the sheeple, flirt with your wife and eye the crowd 360 degrees by standing back to back kinda cuddly like while waiting line. You look like all the other goons pushing the limits public display of affection, all the while keeping a wary eye on your surroundings. It's not hard, you just have to do it. Make a game of it, in a short time you find it becomes second nature. This is a skill I dare say MORE important than marksmanship. Mr. Miyagi told us the best way to win a fight is to "No get hit" Well, pay attention see it coming, and get the heck out of the way. NO, of course this isn't 100% but it's ZERO % if you don't put forth an effort.
  16. You know, if the worst DOES come to pass, it will be the worst thing to ever happen to the UN. If they come here.....well.....I know I am not the only one who would have no qualms about shooting any and all blue helmets. I say bring it. Maybe we can use it as a cover to give our whole system an enema. Let come out into rural america. Bubba the deer slayin' redneck will stick a broad head in that united nations neck of theirs.
  17. Tough call, and I hate to say it, but if I could get away I would. I would risk my life for my wife and any small child, the rest of the public, I'll do what I can, but I ain't taking a bullet for 'em. Maybe I'll feel different when/if the situation presents itself. It kinda depends on how close I am. If it's point blank, the perp pulls a gun, and there's no one on the opposite side of him, I'm going to put a hole or two in him if I can react fast enough. If there's space and I can get to any form of cover, that's where I'm heading. If he's got my wife or some random little 9 yr old Susie Q; it's highly likely I will get shot, because I would put myself in between them. If I get killed doing that, I'm okay with it. I'll take a martyrs crown;) Knowing my luck, I'd come out a quadriplegic, but I'd still do it. Hopefully someone would feel sorry enough for me to fill me a sippy cup with Cutty Sark. The older I get, the more defined the line in the sand becomes. This side of the line I'm rather tenacious about self preservation, the other side...I really could care less. Good post, this is something as a card/gun carrying man we should all think about.
  18. Uhh not a native species? Really? Well, they've been here longer than white man.
  19. I don't understand this post at all. Is the coyote some kind of subspecies that doesn't deserve the same respect? I don't have a problem with hunting at all, I plan to take a deer or two this winter myself, but I'm firm believer in eat it, or leave it.
  20. ^ Federal tend to have stronger cases in large bore handguns. I like Federal brass best in my 45 LC when I push it to top end.
  21. Then just stick with Winchester and Rp and you won't have any issues.
  22. That was filmed on location at Bill Goodmans gun and knife show wasn't it?
  23. You didn't mention a caliber. For 308 I prefer Hornady match, Lake City or RP for .223/5,56 For 9x19 I like winchester I load just about everything though.
  24. Well...We can ask Bigwakes to. I didn't know how to go about that, he took care of that last sunday. I still don't have his number, I should probably ask him for it. This coming sunday?
  25. Have ya been to downtown nashville lately?
