  1. A bit last minute, but I'm heading out to zero a scope in the morning.....................
  2. Oh anything CAN be fixed, but I can get a new Yankee Hill for under a hundred. It just ain't worth it.
  3. Well, for me, cash money is contraband and must be remitted immediately to the proper authority (my wife) for distribution to the various necessities of life. Sell a gun, lose a gun. Trade a gun, keep a gun.
  4. People pass away everyday but; Reading some of his posts I get the feeling I really missed out not knowing him. What a shame. My condolences to everyone close to him. Rest in Peace, sir.
  5. Some of the substandard mags that were floating around for a while? They were junk. All my pistol mags are Mecgar. For the XD, they give an extra 2 rounds and still fit flush. Plus they look better black than shiny. All of them stay loaded, all the time. Take them to the range, empty them, fill 'em back up. They stay loaded a lot longer than not ZERO issues. AR-15 magazines too. Although, I admittedly load 28 in USGI mags. More for feeding than springs taking a set. Using QUALITY magazines, it's just not an issue.
  6. I went and checked in the mirror just to be absolutely sure......Nope, my neck is not red enough for a back window gun rack.
  7. Here's a better look at it.
  8. No I don't know anything about it's origins. I know it's been around a while. It's been in a box of parts in an older gentleman I trade around with; Out in his shop for longer than I have been into AR's. The little symbol there is it's only marking. The dedicated .22 upper makes sense. I guess I'll hang on to it for now.
  9. So, I needed to strip my upper (AR) receiver but I didn't want to use chemicals or embed media like sand or glass where the bolt rides, so I thought I would give baking soda a run. Never tried it, but less than $2 for a large box what the hey. IT WORKS AWESOME!!!!! Looks like it just come out of the machine tool that made it! Baking soda dissolves in water so a quick rinse and there's no worries about particulates coming out later and galling anywhere. I used less than half a box, so it cost me a buck to strip the upper CLEAN. Bad news. The upper I picked up second hand has a crack I would have never known about. Had I sandblasted it, it would have likely not shown because the aluminum being so soft, it would have likely peened and hid it. I've seen that happen before. The crack would likely never manifest into an issue, but me being the paranoiac that I am....It's dead to me. It's at the rear where the head of the charging handle rests. I can see in a vision of my own demise; The entire top coming off during a catastrophic failure. Would that ever happen to anyone? No not likely. Would that ever happen to Caster? Undoubtedly. Added a Yankee Hill upper to my wish list at Midway USA. Two lessons learned today. One - Baking soda ROCKS for stripping finishes. Two - Always buy new parts when building a rifle you intend to stake your life upon during the impending zombie invasion. ...add to that my stomach ulcer is acting up and I can't drink, it's raining and I can't go outside and play. Sunday Sept 4 SUCKS! I dunno if you can see it, but I circled the crack with a marker:
  10. Yup I like that too. I don't understand why you need to check them in at all. Stupid really. The TWRA has a good grasp on the population numbers. They should sit down and figure how many they want harvested and only issue that many kill tags. Quit hassling hunters with needless wastes of time. It's not like any law will affect poachers anyway.
  11. Anyone else? Robert, want to do Sunday morning? I much prefer the morning. Cooler, and I can get back home around noon so me and MRS. can go out to eat. I know Sunday early is hard on Bigwakes, so noon is doable too if any more of youse guys wanna show.
  12. I don't think a bag full of Strohs would amplify the light enough, I'm screwed.
  13. I hate to be such a jerk, but what do I care if someone gets a ticket? I have found as I have gotten older, that the best way to get out of paying a speeding ticket, is to NOT SPEED! If you're running late, you should have left earlier. Just because I don't like a law doesn't mean I have a right to break it. I have had my share of tickets, only one in the last decade. If I get pulled over, I let the cop write the ticket and I pay it because I was breaking the law, and that's the end of it. I wouldn't flash my lights for that reason and for a few others. People are insane. Some gangbanger might take offense and who knows where that'd lead. Southernasylum is spot on, and I'm sorry but I am a jerk. I have to pay my speeding tickets, so does everyone else.
  14. Dolomite, I had the Lee perfect powder, two actually, I returned the first one. They both leak out the side with fine ball powders like AA#2. I bet it would work just fine with extruded powders.
  15. I like everything Lee makes...........except their scale and measure. If you're buy a Lee kit, think about about supplementing it with a Lyman measure and a decent scale. You'd be shocked at what the dummies will pay for the measure and scale on Ebay.
  16. No, sorry.
  17. Tire rubber??? Good lord, how much do you want? Anyone needing any junk tires for a project like this PM me. I will fix you up.
  18. BUT, what would be the first step? Report it stolen? I would. Then, if the police department does have it, no harm, no foul. BUT, should it reside with some sticky fingered passerby.......
  19. What are you thinking, talking all this common sense business? Seriously, that's absolutely true. You might need your weapon ANYWHERE, but NEVER set about in an area where you are convinced you'll need it. I might need my pistol while out shopping on West End but I AIN'T GOING DOWN ON LAFAYETTE!!! For no reason!
  20. Well, I didn't even consider back door posting. Shows how smart I'm not:)
  21. That's good to hear. Love cops who just do their job, God bless them all. I've often wondered about this though. What would happen in a serious crash. You're injured, possibly unconscious. Will you ever see your weapon again? No way of knowing. AMSting, glad you weren't hurt.
  22. I'm guessing/betting his benefactor status expired??? I don't think you get a reminder when it does. He's had some of that stuff posted quite a while. A moderator would have seen that by now. I imagine that's what happened, his status expired, he didn't realize it, honest oversight.
  23. So basically it ain't worth the trouble. Oh well, thanks WD-40. I appreciate it. If you can check it in on the internet, you should be able to snap a picture and email it to them to finalize it. I guess that's too easy for the crooked liars out there to use to their advantage.
  24. Well, it's not illegal on private land, and for that very reason (cannot remove organs or hide the sex) I was wondering about internet check in. I live in the 'burbs. There wasn't a great reception to the last deer I strung up on a gambrel and butchered. No sense in making the nosy neighbors mad if I can check it in over the internet, then gut and skin it while out in the woods. I can quarter that bad boy and pack it in a couple, three coolers. Then I can slice and grind in peace when I get home. I suppose it would be pretty nasty if people did that on public lands, so I'll say that's a good rule now I think about it. But I'll be on private land. There's lots of little opossums and other carrion eaters that would love some "left overs" for a midnight snack.
  25. I didn't even know you had to check in rabbits and dove. Hmm, good thing I don't hunt them. What are you talking about "garbage"? Are you implying that entrails and a deer head would be LITTERING? That's as dumb as the EPA when they told the local saw mill that the piles of bark and wood could not be touching the ground, but housed in trailers, because as it decomposes, it poisons the water table (true story). Make clear what you meant please.
