All them dang zombies ain't gonna kill they selves!
Caster replied to Caster's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
GET ON WITH IT! That 7,62x54R LOVES cast bullets. Takes a good bit of work to find that sweet spot, but when you do...pennies on the dollar man! -
That is gorgeous.

I will say that typically revolvers do not get the high round count per outing than a typical auto loader gets.....BUT if anyone doubts that they Do indeed bang hard, take a close look at Jerry Miculek. That .45 acp revolver he is so fond of gets more through it in a week than some shoot in a year! ...and, if it's a game of who's is longer....We all know a revolver sucks for capacity, but NO autoloader brings more power to the table. The ones that try, say the .50AE Desert Eagle are clumsy and unwieldy. To everything there is a time and place. I wouldn't get rid of one for the other...ever. Nothing can replace my Sp101; It can never replace my XD9 and neither can replace my .45 LC w/ a 300g FPGC sitting on 23.5g of H110 for 1300+fps. My XD9: 18+1 A+ for zombies, F for bears. Blackhawk - Gets the exact opposite;)

Come on people! What have you been working on??? Can't believe no one wants to talk about what they've been loading. Just picked up a few new molds today. Lyman Keith style 170g SWC .358 Lee 160g .312 tumble lube/gascheck I plan to use for a 7,62 Ishapore. The bore is a bit large. I think this will work great. Ohaus 170g RNFP .309 One of my winter projects is going to be finding the perfect cast load for the Ishapore rifle I picked up a while back. It has a near perfect bore, but.... even with the claims of improved metallurgy on the 2A & 2A1 rifles, I am hesitant to trust the same ammo I feed my Savage 10PC. If I can find a cast load she likes, I will have a rifle I will never be able to wear out;) Seriously, I know there's gotta be somebody out there besides me and westwindmike casting their own rifle bullets. Even if you ain't pouring your own, what have you been working on at your loading bench???? -
I've never used a magnum primer in anything. Never had any ignition issues with 357 mag and I load some pretty stout loads. On that note, I just picked up a mold for a 170g Keith style SWC bullet. It's gonna be a beast in an SP101:devil:

So he's bringing sexy back, and she's bringing muzzies back.......to the dust from whence they came. Win, Win!!!

Reminds me of the tree in Depp's "Sleepy Hollow" that the Hessian horseman uses as a gateway to hell.
-
Okey, thanks bud, I appreciate it. That makes PERFECT sense once you actually see what's going on. Thank you, now I have to turn me a new expander ball and get started. After reading that, I can look at your picture again and actually see what's going on. It's always cool to learn something new.
-
Okey, could you elaborate on the "false shoulder" and how it can be done with a .308 please?
-
If they try, it will kick start the inevitable. It will be the match to the tinder that, IMO, needs to be lit. For all their lunacy, the left isn't as stupid as we like to think. They know that a move like that will sign their death warrant..... literally. That move will begin the second american civil war and in the process of fighting, far right wingers will actively seek out left targets and crucify them. The lines of engaging an enemy will be crossed and they will be outright executed on sight. You don't beat the biggest kid on the playground by trading shots with him. You manipulate the rules and keep him suspended until finally he is permanently expelled.

Sounds like some local shops here in Mid TN. Tell everyone and let them starve.

Ignorance coupled with stupidity is frightening.

Typically I fire form cases with a cheap FMJ and a starting charge of whatever. I have one lot of brass dedicated to a specific rifle. The rifle has a slightly oversize chamber, and I want to fire form them before I start loading them. I know there are several methods. I have nearly a pound of bullseye I will never use for anything serious, SO, I wonder if anyone has an idea of where to start? I thought about turning some wooden plugs and loading the cases with a charge of bullseye and some dacron filler. What would be a sufficient charge to expand the brass? BTW, it's in a 7,62x51 Ishapore I am setting up for a "Cast boolit only" rifle.

AA is Winchester I don't know Remington very well. I know their STS hull is a good one. First purchase should be Lymans shotshell reloading manual. Best money you'll spend on the project. Follow the load data and do NOT substitute anything. -

I get my pure lead from a plumber that brings me all the lead he tears out of old buildings he renovates. I get my WW lead for pistols and rifle bullets from the tire shop that I work at. I'm the sole employee so no argument over who gets what:) I have no idea what purchase price for lead is, sorry. what "trap loads" are you shooting? You know those cheap bulk pack walmart shells are not typically easy to reload, if at all. Finding data is hard for them because they change often to whatever they can make the cheapest. If you're going to reload I suggest staying with a known brand. Personally, I ONLY load AA hulls. I like them because with the powder I use, load data is interchangeable between the AA hulls and the AA HS hulls. I use AAHS hulls (grey color) for slugs. I use standard red for buck loads and I use the silver AA hulls for loading bird shot. No need to label anything as they are color coded:) Simplicity. -
For anyone curious: The slug I mentioned casting v/s a defunct hard drive I shot it twice. It took me a few minutes to find it after the first shot. I set it up and hit it again and the parts flew everywhere. I can fit my thumb through either of those holes.

I hear ya. I'd just like to be able to play along to my favorite songs and I'd never play in front of anyone. I'd be happy with simple riffs and just hammering an E string in a timely fashion like Tony Rombola from Godsmack. I can't imagine what it must feel like to not only know how to play, but to not even pay attention to your hands like most do. To just let it flow. I've posted videos on the "What are you listening to" thread about Sungha Jung. That little fellar just sits there and smiles....I think he's actually daydreaming about some girl he'd rather be chasing than playing and yet, he plays with skill in the top 1%.

I cast a 525g slug for 12g. It looks like a GIANT pellet. It's pretty much a full wadcutter of sorts. I cast it from pure lead so it's soft as butter. Whatever it hits....is gonna bleed out REALLY fast. Like firehose fast.

Open Carry in TN and laws about showing ID

You could always get one of these :hiding: -
Doh! Be mindful of what you buy at the gunshows for a while!

I can get everything that means anything to me in one load. Maybe not a light load, but I can do it. There's no real permanence to my existence. I figure in a fire I'm going to lose some single shot shotguns and what not but nothing of future significant value to me. I've been toying with the idea of keeping a two wheeler tucked under one of those thin stack-on cabinets, keeping my stuff in there, and in the event of an emergency; Pull, kick, shove and go daddy go!

"Some rifles come with a cow barrel, but you always want a bull barrel.." That's hilarious!
