  1. Wow, that's a lot to think about. Thanks to everyone. Me and the wife are shopping around now.
  2. Good to see you can be equally oaken in your standpoint but remain unaggressive. So many people cannot do that. That makes for a genuinely fun mud slinging contest. Neither side will ever win, so why run your blood pressure up, get personal and vulgar? High five k9. For what it's worth, I was an AK nut for many years. I was heavily invested. Then I actually put a GOOD AR through it's paces. I felt like "Baby, where you been all me life?" They are more comfortable and lighter on average even if they do sacrifice some structural integrity for it. I wouldn't wanna get in a clubbing match with my AR like I would have with the Yugo M70B1 I used to have. Also, mounting a scope is much easier for us AR guys. Yes I know you can do it to, but you gotta admit, it ain't as easy and quality options aren't as plentiful. BUT, the number one reason I got out of AK's was ammo. The run of the mill 7,62x39 SUCKS. You know it's truth. Options for .223 ammo are MUCH better in quality than 7,62x39. Not just factory loadings but reloading for an AK is dark lonely path to trod. I don't understand that either. As prolific as the AK is, there should be mountains of brass and fields full of top quality bullets to choose from. It's also undeniable that the major contributing factor to the claims of the AK's inaccuracy are ammo related. AK or AR, if you feed it that steel cased russian crap and expect subMOA accuracy, you WILL be severely disappointed. I like giving good folks a hard time, but the SHTF and I lost all my AR's/ammo, I'd go with an AK and not be upset about it. Now, the 1911 you mention, I wouldn't give you a red penny for every single one ever made and I am seriously offended you make comparison between a great fighting platform such as the AR and that antiquated boat anchor......
  3. YES! Herein lies a serious problem you need to consider. Use me for example. I like to keep extra parts. Minimum an extra bolt-carrier group for each AR. Toss in a few other things and you have a nice cache of spare parts should anything ever go wrong. Every time I get enough spare parts to suit me, the dang things begin to gravitate toward one another and before I can stop it, I have another finished rifle. Dangitt!!!
  4. Awesome. Serious about the Barnes, they work and they work well in that 1/7.
  5. If you got the faster twist, try the Barnes tsx. It should put them hogs in thier grave.
  6. Well what did you get, you didn't mention what length or twist???? Why do you think anyone would be offended. If someone is offended by your personal choice, you tell them where to go and what to do when they get there! Seriously, Colt builds a dang fine rifle. Take care of it and it will take care of you. post pics man, we wanna see!!!!!!
  7. Do whaaaaaat?
  8. Oh man, I want one. What kind of dog is that black and white one? Beautiful!
  9. Finished that out for ya;)
  10. Yeah it was just being discussed in another thread. You'd definitely have bragging rights, but seems useless for anything other than the "Mine's bigger than Yours" game.
  11. HA! Justice, ninja style!
  12. Yeah, that's what I'd like to do. I might put one of these on the side of the house my bedroom window faces, but I'd like some weather proof ones I can put outside.
  13. I'm not so much worried about us getting burgled so much as catching this clown. There are chains and a 80Lb pitbull around the back of our house, a security door that STAYS locked out front and me and my wife live here with her parents. The number one rule of the house is: If me and my wife go off, they stay here. If they go off WE stay here. NO EXCEPTIONS. Everyone here carries daily and I realize that doesn't save you from anything, but something bad will happen when/if they come here. It may be MY blood they use for forensic evidence, who knows, but I'm just saying. Obviously I am also severely pissed about this because I thought I was fairly vigilant and it's clear I am not. I accept a percentage of the blame for this happening and have apologized to my neighbor. He doesn't see it my way and said it was no big deal, but it's a VERY big deal to me. I'd rather been punched in the face. This just confirms my own incompetence for not paying more attention to my surrounding environment.
  14. Also, Fellow Fairviewans, I will try to get a better description of the guns, but any craftsman tool sets, XD45, Savage bolt action in .223 and an AR of some sort should be looked upon with scrutiny. Seller could be driving either a silver or maroon Mitsubishi Gallant and there might be duct tape on the sunroof. I lament the passing days of the west when thieves hung from a low branch.
  15. Guy three doors down was broken into last week. This morning, my next door neighbor lost all his guns and a few other things. The perp knows the area. I'm convinced I've met him, though I have no description. It's a tiny neighborhood of less than 30 close knit people with one access road. There's very little for the cops to go on. I've put this off long enough. I'm looking for reasonably priced camera set up that I can put outside. Ideally, It'd be nice to get something that could work with my iMac. I have a great big computer here that does nothing but surf the web and hold my music. I've got lots of memory sitting here doing nothing. If i could set it up where I could store the video on this computer, that'd be great. Problem, I know precisely SQUAT about doing it. What would be involved and how much money would it take???
  16. I don't know what to say. Nothing said is worth the time it takes to type it. I'm so sorry brother. I'm so very sorry. We can all shift our prayers for you: Comfort and good nights sleep.
  17. Had one. I can see where it would be a value to stick powder users. BUT, I use ball powder in 99.9% of my loadings. I filled that thing with AA#5 and gave it throw and it spewed like can of beer. I took it back to the Reloaders Bench. They were more than kind enough to take it back. I'm not spoiled and I'm certainly not rich, but I am frustrated. Frustrated with the Lyman. When I get frustrated, I ain't like a lot of people. I don't mind spending what little money I have to make my frustrations go away. Thank God I don't have the same tastes as Charlie Sheen:) Seriously, It pisses me off when my stuff ain't right. I'll never miss the money I spend to buy a better measure, but I'll grin and dance while I use it. Dolomite has this great ability to polish turds {AR triggers} I tried it on my last build. I followed instruction on youtube and was going to get one of Dolomites improvement kits....Then it hit me and I was pretty ill about the poor results I got. Next gunshow I came home with a Timney and 20 minutes later I have one righteous trigger. That money was MEANT to buy several things I needed at the show. Things I STILL need and have yet to buy. I don't miss or regret a thing. That trigger ROCKS! I dunno what makes me that way. It's not a Paris Hilton attitude but money means nothing when I get aggravated. AND I never miss it, so I'm shopping. I'm going to buy one I can use the rest of my rotten life and not be bothered by it again. It's the whole cry now or cry later policy.
  18. Thanks TMF, My civilian point of view has always been the same. To all the people who boast whatever they use is MORE reliable than an AR, I wonder, do ya'll ever clean your gun? I mean brags about 9 million rounds without a jam, soaked in a mud and sand slurry and urinating down the barrel....you know, you've heard it all; Who cares? Do you really treat your gun that way here in TN? I'm no gunsmith but I have fixed more than one semi auto that won't cycle, just by cleaning it. It amazes me at how trifling lazy some gun owners are. Especially where Wolf and WD40 meet one another. I quietly contemplate the validity of claims where a QUALITY AR jams frequently. I also wonder if said owner has ever opened his/her cleaning kit. Maybe some people are just made out of money, but I ain't and I care too much about my rifle(s) to not care for them.
  19. Ehh, it's just wore out. I didn't really like it when I bought it, but hey I go 5 years out of it and loaded more ammo than you could haul in few wheelbarrow loads. Even if it's fixed I still wouldn't like it.
  20. Be nice to get some deals again. I've seen a few good projects I'd like to try but couldn't afford the donor rifle. Now maybe I can try the 7,62 tokarev conversion on an M1 carbine I saw a few years ago. I was toying with the idea of building a .308 garand too, as much as I fear the garand after the last one I had. Having one in 308 is so very tempting though.
  21. Yeah the reason is they can't afford to do any better:)
  22. I use ball powders almost exclusively. The only exceptions being Unique, Nitro 100 & Universal. Of those three I only use universal for shotgun which my Lyman Easy loader has it's own measure. Unique I use for .308 Win and I always hand weigh, and Nitro 100 for 45 Colt. No more than I shoot of that I don't mind hand weighing it either. So, if it will consistently and accurately weigh AA2520, WC846, AA#5 & AA#7 I'm good to go.

    blacken stainless?

Stainless isn't stainless as some blindly believe. It can be acid etched, it just takes some seriously potent stuff to do it. Call some nashville based chromers and finish shops. I've seen Titanium etched before, so it's possible. I dunno if anyone in TN is capable. Call some machine shops [real machine shops, not bubba tractor shaft repair;)] and ask where they get black oxide done. It's a beginning.
  24. The Blue is fine and dandy alright, but you know, I think I like this Glenfiddich better. No kidding, I really like it! I guess that's the difference in single malt and a blended scotch.
  25. Well, after 5 years, my little Lyman 55 is crapping out on me. It will NOT repeat better than .5+/- It's frustrating. Going to hock a few things and buy me a new one, but what to buy ¿ Shopping at Midway, i like the looks of Forsters bench rest measure. Maybe a redding. Nothing digital, I'll never trust those things. Advice for volume loading? I don't use a measure at all for anything I call seriously accurate. Well, I do but I set it for 1g under the charge weight and trickle each load by hand on the scale. I'm still pretty anal about my volume loads as well. The little Lyman 55 used to throw +/- .1 all day. I'd check 15-20 ina row, then once every hundred with out any problems. Not now. I don't even trust the thing now. Plus the thing is starting to bind. I've cleaned, deburred and polished the rotating parts as well as the body. I'll probably save it and rig up a BP substitute dispensing outfit out of it. I got a bunch of Triple 7 I plan on using one day. What are you using and how good is it? I ain't made out of $$$ but what's the best mechanical measure you know of? I'd rather not spend more than $200 unless it'll make me glass of tea while I'm loading;)
