Need new lenses in an old pair of reading glasses
Caster replied to Steelharp's topic in General Chat
Thanks! What kind of old frames did you find? Trying to look refined and dignified behind that Sho-Bud?? -
Everybody tells me how important it is to vote....
Caster replied to gregintenn's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
*Purposefully throwing a wrench in the works.* How do you convince individuals to vote who believe that the system is lost and needs a total rebuild? If you continue to vote for band-aid fixes that only prolong the inevitable it's possible you risk what's left that's worth fixing. I know people who would rather just get it over with. As the afore mentioned metaphor of the band-aid, just snatch it off and get it over with as opposed to slowly peeling it back. I hear from people who'd rather just let things get worse now as opposed to later while we're still strong enough to do something about it. If it weren't for the neighbors' kids [and yours that I haven't met ] and the retirement home up the road reminding me of WHAT that loss of life would be, I'd feel much the same way. -
Need new lenses in an old pair of reading glasses

MOst places won't custom cut lenses anymore. I think that's just plain BS. I've seen some old frames that are very cool. Likewise, I have been asking for glass lenses which I have discovered are rare to nonexistent nowadays. The latest whizzbang scratch proof plastic blah blah, more BS. Glass doesn't scratch easily, this plastic does. I've been wearing them over half my life and have yet to get anyone to cut me some glass. Now they outright refuse to work with it. Oh well. Something else I've noticed, 99% of the glasses out there fit into one of a very few categories. They all look the same. In this age of personal expression and the freedom from persecution for being weird, you'd think there's be something different out there than short squatty rectangles, or large goober squares. Steelharp, if you find a place to custom cut lenses in nashville area, post it if you would. -
Does anyone carry "small of the back" ?
Caster replied to Will Carry's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Well, you either tuck tight and cross your lower abdomen and hip or you swing wide like a mad man. Either way it's not conductive to timely, precise or wise deployment. But hey! What the heck do I know? -
Nothing they have would penetrate a decent vest, but it's still funny and blowing a little smoke up people arse never hurt anything. ....not that anyone could get on a plane wearing said vest or stand up to the blunt force trauma and still cause trouble.

Caster replied to Will Carry's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
When I was young and dumb and still liked 1911's I carried a full size in the small of the back. I fell once and landed on my back. I could barely walk for the whole weekend and was sore for a week. Never again. Ever. As I've gotten older and [hopefully] a bit wiser, I can't see a valid reason to ever put a gun back there. Mike already laid it out. Hard to draw on the quick AND you have to sweep your own lower abdomen to draw??? Screw that. -
I thought we quit giving this guy any kind of publicity? Even making fun of him is press and there's no such thing as bad press when you're trying to reach people.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? Shame on you!

I would NOT finish it [in the normal sense]. I used 3/4" birch plywood for mine [cabinet grade plywood]. Wipe it down with fine sandpaper to get any burrs off but I would hesitate on any finish that makes a coating. Shellac, varnish, poly's whatever. Over years, oils and lubes and all the other things we bathe in will just eat it up and it'll look like poo. I built mine in the summer and used a light coat of Johnson's Paste wax to penetrate it and protect it, but I didn't go heavy and I let it soak in very well and rubbed it down good before getting to work.

As far as Josh Hutcherson, I think he's a good actor. Don't hammer him too hard for making a crappy movie. The young man is from Kentucky and probably dang glad to be in his position. He needed work and got paid for it. You'd have done it too. Look at his other movies, Journey to the center of the earth and Bridge to Terabithia were very good.

Oh yeah that's coming out this november. Looking forward to it. THEY BETTER NOT SCREW IT UP!!! Instead of Soviet invaders we're getting North Koreans this time. Woot! Should be good. *Disclaimer* Yes I know they screw most remakes but I cannot stop them from airing this remake therefore I am trying to stay positive about it.

Either way, the motor's got a rod knockin'. You can keep pouring all the STP in you want, sooner or later it's going to spin a bearing. -
I can't wait to read 'em. The wife ordered them. I hate watching a movie before I read the book because I hate guessing at the finer details that movies don't give.

There's no junk on it! How can it be a reloading bench when you can actually see the table top? J/K Give it time, it'll be covered with cråp and you'll be right there with the rest of us!

I hadn't heard that but that's great. Get some kids off their fat lazy butt and get outside!!! I was thinking to myself something similar as I watched this movie. Ever the paranoid delusional that I am, I was thinking this would be a great clandestine tool to get teens off the computer and outside. If you could put the same fear in them as many of us carry around about zombies, think what they could accomplish. Young guys and girls becoming paranoid about being exploited, attacked or otherwise assaulted would a GODSEND to this country. A mass exodus from the bedroom/living room and into the gym, dojo's, training facilities, and just getting out in the woods and local parks. I know if I had life to do over, I would never have played a video game, watched more than hour of TV in a weeks time, and I probably wouldn't have the sense to be typing to you guys now. I would however put Daryl Dixon to shame. I would have begged anyone I could find to teach me anything they could teach me. I wouldn't have had to learn from trial and error. I wouldn't be 30lbs overweight with a bad back either. I know that's really grasping at straws, but if it just motivated a small percentage...........oh well, back to reality.

Tell 'em how it is!!! -
Went to see the film today. It's a good flick if you just let go and not try to nit pick with "what I'd do". You gotta remember they are kids. I guess I'll read the books now. I'm surprised it's so popular and none of the interest groups are crying because of the "Kids killing kids" and all. At first when you've seen it you WANT to think, "Oh that can't happen, no one would watch that!" but I beg to differ, people are sick and people will [as a flock] do whatever anyone is doing so YES, I can see it as plausible. I do find it sad that after some world wide war [i'm guessing] that ALL of the men in the world no longer have any spherical attachments betwixt their legs. NO friggin' way would I live under a tyrannical government that would subdivide the world, place me a sector where I may very well starve to death all the while they wine and dine and dance. THEN once a year come around and take "tribute" one boy/one girl to fight to the death, all under the ruse of maintaing peace and placating the desire for any uprising. I'll be long dead in a world like that, or I would have a bounty on my head so large Han Solo would be jealous. What'd ya'll think?

Any idea what membership is going to cost? I hope it's affordable. I'd love to come play. ....as far as affordable, I think everyone should be a little understanding about what an ENORMOUS...MONSTROUS investment needs to be recooped here. I understand that completely....but please be gentle.

Well, if they're spending millions, why screw around with it? Go on and do it expeditiously!!!

+3, never heard of him.

HUH! And the hippies say violence solves nothing. Looks like a solution to me.

I finished the last one. Made a leather sheath for this one. Kydex is nice and all, but it'll never beat the feel of leather in my book. The handles on this one do look better than the sucky pic shows [no honestly!] I used Formby's Tung oil this time. I really like this bloodwood.

Wow, an attorney running a gun shop/shooting range. That's cool Safe bet all your "I's" are dotted and "T's" are crossed. It's very convenient to the gun show too! I bet you get a lot of sat. afternoon business from the "I bought a new toy" crowd.

I used to work in Clarksville, there was a rather rowdy bunch that used to run through the industrial park running a million miles an hour with their hair on fire. We were right up the street from bosch. I worked the night shift, it was just two of us. I used to take up shooting cans with my "tool box" gun I used to keep in my roll around, at the same time they like to come through. They quit fairly soon after. There was a lot less trash on the road and less noise too.
