Anyone know where in Nash area to find the large cable wood spools
Caster replied to BLACKVANDRIVER's topic in General Chat
I have seen some that would knock you down at how pretty they are. If you can find one that wasn't treated like a redheaded step child, and one actually takes the time to smooth it out, they can look very nice. Certainly solid and if it gets messed up by the young uns it's not a heartbreaker like one you drooped a few grand on. -
Me too. It's always a good thing to learn to get items, tools and materials without having to buy them though.

Or Aborigines or Jews ......no wait.

Anyone know the procedure for cutting pitch wood sticks for a tinder box? I bought some from a guy in Backwoods magazine years ago. They burn like gasoline! I wonder if there's a suitable tree here in TN to cut some from??? The stuff I got was from old growth pine stumps. There's a certain time to cut it, when the sap content is highest.

The really big ones make the trickest dog house in the neighborhood. Lay them flat and cut a door out of the center cylinder. I'd like to have one of the 6 or 8 ft diameter ones to make a dining room table out of. -
This. There's so many better options for less. You're already deep into 1K dollar territory tearing 2k dollars all to pieces. If you're already spending that kind of money, throw a few more hundred in there and get a Larue Ar-10.

Well, they always told us if we didn't quit, we would go blind....
-
Any others besides Magpul? mmmm, NO. Of course there's a few of us that are pretty close to being unpaid spokesmen for the company Personally I am a big fan of the ACS.

That would be an exercise in restraint. Big case, lots of room.............

Not bad at all. It's an entertaining portrayal of how petty & stupid humans are. Honor and kinfolk are NOT and never will be worth destroying lives over. It'd be different if it was a genuine threat to the life of the people you love. Had I been McCoy I would have sold my land and took my family elsewhere. Obviously the Hatfields have a dominating logistical advantage. Why fight a battle that can't be won, when you can live peacefully somewhere else. Because honor dictates you cannot live with the shame of backing down? What a joke. Pride, The great destroyer of lesser men. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Mike, you need to cast a really long 45/70 boolit around 500g or so, size it back to .452-.454 depending on the barrel. It would be like super short sharps.
-
I appreciate the links. These things a serious cult following.
-
I'm guessing that controls the barrel tension thereby keeping the headspace proper and the fit tight? Good to know. Do you have any rimfire barrels? I was wondering how hard the firing pin was to change out for that.

The real bane of an astigmatism is that when you correct for it with glasses, the astigmatism can move. It was explained to me that the out of roundness your glasses are compensating for will cause it to shift and that's why most of us need new lenses every year or two.

Thanks. I'm very close to taking up pistols and setting my rifles to the back burner. Despite being a single shot, I can't think of a more versatile and accurate handgun. I've always wanted a Remington XP100 in .221 fireball, but the Thompson lets me buy several calibers for one gun. They look very nice to me too. I've seen some exotic custom wood sets that will knock your hat in the creek.

New Study: 49.1% of population receiving Gov't benefits

That's right. They should have rolled FDR, wheelchair and all, off a hill somewhere. Let's not forget that the remaining 51% aren't all supportive either. Many are paying no taxes. The wise and wealthy move their money out of country to a safer economy. AND, how many in the remaining 51% are actively trying to GET government hand outs? -
I don't get spots or swimmers, but yeah, you're right. I need to go. I usually go in September. It's my B/day ritual. May not wait that long this year.
-
Somebody gave me a -1 for that? Really? I wasn't even being my normal smart azz self? Hmph, thas cool
-
HHmmmmm, I'll have to remember that. Thinking on it now, I don't seem to remember this ever being an issue when it's cold out.
-
WON'T THEY!!??!! Do it run off a tank of gas like the grill? That could be a cool party about once/twice a year. Group of gun loving rednecks, good food and open flames.....what could go wrong??

It was mentioned in another thread, instead of sending it off on a tangent I thought I'd bring it here. I've had a rather bad astigmatism since I was a teenager. At 34 now, it gets worse and worse. It's not just the astigmatism. My ophthalmologist says I also have a bad nerve ending in one eye. I can't remember exactly because he says it's nothing to worry about...yet. I just go back every year and get the full run through. My biggest problem as of late is blurring. It comes from shooting rifles with significant muzzle blast, or staring at this Apple contraption too long. It doesn't last too long, but like yesterday: I usually shoot really light cast loads in my 308 but I was fireforming cases made from other calibers and my Ishapore has a bit of a large chamber so I ran some standard pressure loads. I got about 100 of them shot before it started. I would shoot 10-20 then switch to another gun to keep the barrel cool. By the time I left I was having mild focusing issues. Nothing that would make driving too dangerous. From CHMR all the way down hwy 96 it calmed down by the time I got to the Davidson county line. It sucks though because I know it's a prelude. I'm going to have to give up on anything bigger than a .223 eventually. Even my AR's......not, I'm going to use this to lobby[the wife] for a suppressor. That'll calm things down. So, who else is slowly trying to " or go blind" AND, what measures have you taken??? Aging blows. It's part of life but I'd choose death over blindness. Without pause.

That's one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time. If you really do buy one, don't be surprised if I show up with a bucket of brass and a sack full BBQ sandwiches. That beats the fire out of doing it with a torch.

My eyes get a little hazy, I'm guessing from the pressure changes. That concussive wave from heavier calibers seem to do it. I can bang out with my .223 bolt rifle or my low pressure cast loads all day. Likewise, I can shoot my 45 colt all day. Even heavy loads. I'm thinking about looking into some prescription goggles or some kind of glasses that encapsulate my eyes. I learned not too long ago that 99.9% of optometrists are either quacks, half educated or just plain don't care. It costs me a lot more, but I go to a Vanderbilt clinic to see an ophthalmologist. They take the necessary time [on my dime ] to be thorough. What good is money if I can't see. I'd gladly choose death over blindness. ANY DAY. Started a new thread about it. www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/48531-my-lousy-rapidly-aging-eyes/ Back on topic. .308 would be too much, actually that would be counterproductive. Just out of curiosity, how does it group at 100 yards? I just looked at one on the web chambered in .300 BLK. That would be sweet. Especially subsonic. That would have to pretty sweet on the ears and eyes too.

Who all gets into the Thompson Center/Encore/Contender around here? I've been having trouble lately with anything larger than a .223 in a rifle, and even then, my AR's are doing it to. Shooting more than 15-20 times from my .308 or from my AR does something to my vision. I haven't been able to completely define it; but it's screwy I'm not a very big handgun guy, but it looks like I'm heading that way. None of my current handguns bother me after shooting. I have been thinking about getting into a Thompson. Buy one and then I can mail order a "New Gun" anytime. I don't know what caliber to start with. Maybe a rimfire. .22 Magnum would be cool. I know .45 Colt is a must for me...or maybe a casull or even a .460 barrel and shoot Colt in it. BUT, [don't ask for an explanation] I would REALLY like to have one in .218 Bee. All of them are different, but how well do you [current owners] like what you have? Do you find they are very accurate? Discuss please. I'm seriously considering trying this. My maximum range is 100 yards and outside of "for the fun of it" I'll likely never be faced with needing to take a shot any longer. The worse my eyes get, the more I shoot most everything at 50 yards.
