  1. Tragic? Yes.
    Accident? Hell no.

Yeah, the mother most likely feels pretty bad but that ain't enough. She should be hung out to dry. This was 100% avoidable. If you're going to carry, have the damn common sense and courtesy to BE RESPONSIBLE!! That weapon should NEVER be out of your reach unless it is very scurely put away. Leaving it in your purse! WTF???

This is cut and dry criminal negligence and possibly involuntary manslaughter. Certainly some child endangerment charge and she should never be allowed to carry or own a firearms again. A good felony conviction would take care of that.

Poor little one. The woman should be beaten with a fan belt until she lapses in a coma.

  2. Yeah, plenty of ridicule. I have an '07 FJ and its a dang tank. I've had it buried to the running boards in creek gravel and out it came. I've crossed a horse pasture at over 50 mph without hitting the bump stops.

I pulled my neighbor out of his yard today. His Nissan truck was buried to the axles in mud. I almost idled him out.

I'd rather push my FJ than drive a Jeep and with the maintenance schedule I keep, it'll be here as long as any jeep of similar age.

  3. Mac, you will NEVER regret the Taco.

    Toyota has me hooked.

Do pony up for a v6.  The 4 cylinder is pretty pathetic.  Might run forever and get great mileage but it suffers from anemia.  The wife got one as a rental when her car needed servicing.  It was a great ride....but weak.  the 4.0l V6 is AWESOME though.

  4. My wife traded in her Camry last year for a Venza. It's all wheel drive and does very well. Lots of room. She loves it.

I think it's a good solid vehicle but I hate it....too many gotdang buttons and gizmos. But then, I'm kinda backwards like that.
  5. This movie should be a cautionary tale on why you don't mess with a man's dog.

Stole a car and killed a dog and your mobster dad says....."Ohh."

I knew it was about to get good after that.

  6. I had a Marlin camp 9 a few years ago and hated myself for selling it ever since.

I recently snagged another from one of our fine upstanding members here and it will NOT be leaving. They're quite accurate. I shot a fist sized 30 round group at 25 yards while zeroing in the scope.

I will say they need some mild attention. A stiffer spring from Wolf and get that brittle factory buffer out.
Took me the better part of an hour, but took that godawful magazine disconnect out too.

Seriously. Give the Camp 9 a bit of consideration. They're great rifles.

  7. If this is a problem for a gun shop, then they have two simple options, charge more for the transfer or stop doing it.
it doesn't need to be any mor complicated. That's capitolism in a nutshell, if there's a profit to made, do it, if not, don't do it.

Personally, I wouldn't do it for $25 but I'm glad G&L does. I wouldn't want to see the price increase but at the same time, if they did, I wouldn't have anything negative to say about it.
  8. Competitive shooting adds a whole 'nuther set of variables.

The gag-a-maggot cost of a Dillion will wash out eventually with competitive shooting. The major advantage in competitive shooting is consistency. You dial in a load for your pistol and after some extensive testing, your ready to rock. Buying ammo for competitive shooting is barking mad. What happens when the buying panic hits again and you can't get the load that works best for you? I highly doubt many serious competitive shooters buy their ammo. Well, not until you're big enough for a sponsor anyway.

  9. You can load even 9mm (cheapest of handgun ammo) cheaper than factory, the issue is, how far down the rabbit hole are you willing to go to save a few bucks? To do it requires an investment on the front end, that for many if not most people, are better spent on just buying ammo outright.
A quality mold will set you back a hundred bucks easy. You can do it with a $25 Lee sure, but they suck in the long run as anyone with experience will tell you. A lube sizer will set you back another couple of hundred.
Also, you have to have sources for freebies and everyone doesn't have at luxury. I don't pay for lead because of where I work and I don't pay for 9mm brass most of the time either. I also have a massive amount of free time at work to do much of my casting.

In the end, I can load 9mm for around 60-75 bucks per thousand depending on what I want to produce. It's extremely labor intensive and MOST people have more important things to devote their time to.

So, in the end, you have to evaluate your specific situation and resourcefulness. For MOST people, buying it is the most efficient way. Even if you manage to save a few bucks, is it worth those few bucks to tie up your time in it? If you don't have any family obligations and shoot several thousand rounds a year, then yeah. If you shoot a few boxes a moth at the range, hell no, go buy it and enjoy your free time doing something else.
