  1. You need to do this in a covered pot. A dutch oven is ideal. You need heavy gloves and a face shield too. all it takes is a stone or something weird in there to ruin your day. Be safe!!!
  2. Victory! Another converted disciple. If it's the last thing I do, I will have every single TGO member [at least all the cool kids anyway] casting their own bullets. Muuuhaaahaaaa
  3. It's NOT cool to put it together WITHOUT a little grease, so yeah, take your finger and smear a very light film of high quality grease on the extension and the threads also.
  4. THread merge needed
  5. I will add, there are probably more deer taken with crusty old 30/30's than all the fancy super short over compensating belted humpety what the heck magnums combined. Only a man's deep freezer is proof of his success. Not his rifle.
  6. THe only adverse comments about using an SKS from is, don't pimp it out. If it didn't come that way, throw it away. If it says Tapco, it's Crapco. One thing other hunters will go cross eyed over is if you get a good cast load that shoots well, developed; They will be at a loss for words when the pigs hit the ground. Also, smooth = fast as we all know so learn to use the stripper clips the right way and you'll be laying waste to pigs faster than anyone else. As far as deer. THe bullets I offered are 168g. Put that in the engine room and the deer will hit the ground, shut it's eyes and be off to the next life.
  7. 2012 is gonna be a year of a psychotic shooter. Got off to a late start, but dang it seems to be snowballin'!
  8. I can see the point in everyone's argument. It's not a careless decision on my part either. I don't fancy the idea of a 19 yr old boy walking into the liquor store and grabbing a litre or two and starting down the path of destruction. I Do support the idea of that boy knocking the bottom out of pitcher of Budweiser with his brothers because tomorrow they ship out. I really like the idea of doing it on base. It certainly does not mean there will not be problems, but they are confined and dealt with much more easily if kept on base. The chances of a vehicle fatality are drastically reduced if things are kept on base. It's also my understanding that, if a young man behaves, acts like somebody and not an ass, he will not be refused service from an on base bar. Legal or not. SO I guess for my part, as long as that "swept under the rug" policy is left unmolested, I could agree either way.
  9. I tell you what I'll do. If you decide to get into loading for it, drop me a PM. I will cast, size (with gas check) and lube you up (50) bullets to try out. That way you don't have to spend money on a mold, sizer, lube and gas checks until you know if they'll work.
  10. Well, everyone knew I was gonna say this so I'll just do it. How about casting for it? Lee makes a bullet mold specifically for this cartridge and it's a darn good one too.
  11. No magazine or capacity restrictions in TN.
  12. I know younger people have a hard time drinking responsibly but I'm sorry, if you can go to a foreign land and kill people. If you can operate multi million dollar pieces of equipment. If you are willing to fight, kill and die for my freedoms, then when you're not on duty, Bottoms Up brother!
  13. There IS good ammo for it, but it ain't cheap. Nothing worth having is cheap so suck it up and buy some really good ammo or buy the brass and load your own. Do this and the 7,62x39 will perform. If you try to skimp by using Wolf soft points or equally worthless trash, you'll be sorely disappointed.
  14. I'll take my lumps on that one. I do hate all 1911's and pretty much all forms of .22 rimfire. Dunno why. If it's all there was, I take up a new hobby. I have no explanation for it.
  15. If that's directed toward the Walking Dead, you're in for it.
  16. We just bought a new Camry. I dunno her budget but it's worth a looksee. My opinion is biased though. I think Toyota builds the best vehicles [a working man's] money can buy. Far better than any of the domestic three turds have to offer. The wife's new car has free maintenance for 100K and a lifetime warranty on the engine and transmission.
  17. ANYTIME.
  18. Very rarely. In the last few years I could all of them without even using my toes.
  19. You're right of course but it's like the rifles they used on "Top Shot" Making a 1K yard shot ain't easy, but with a rifle that's dialed in for that distance and a cartridge that's capable, it ain't all that hard either when compared to the "God only knows what distance the target will come in at this time" that a sniper has to deal with. I think any trained, tried and true sniper will forgive and even agree with this: I am so sick of the word "Sniper" I could puke. I try not to use it even casual conversation because of the "mall ninja" connotation it has taken on. I prefer DMR for my own personal use. It's more appropriate too.
  20. That's right. Nothing a stack of hundred dollar bills thick enough to choke a goat won't solve.
  21. Spin drift and the Coriolis effect make smoke come out of my ears.
  22. Actually, Shooting is probably the easiest part of being a sniper. You put a quality rifle in almost any pair of hands and teach them to shoot. Now, cover, concealment, stalking, patience, camouflage, patience, going for hours without moving or taking a wizzz, patience, those are hard parts. THe trigonometry that the spotter has to do on the fly ain't so easy either.
  23. How the heck did I miss that and you the post right before me? -1 for me and my repost!
  24. You know, you posted that as a joke, but I bet my mother in law would love it if I set her a powder measure up for her creamer. Talk about getting it right, everytime!!!
  25. Female sniper??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyudmila_Pavlichenko Not a very attractive broad but with 309 kills, she's cool in my book.
