Who the &&$*# was Wes Adams??!!??
Caster replied to gregintenn's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
I thought about that. Then I realized, I'll be dead, I'm going to have a whole new set of issues to deal with and the last thing on my mind will be the stuff I left behind. -

Heck yeah, but you gotta help clean any of the ones using black powder cartridges. -
Where is A/V anyway? I would have thought he would've posted something by now. Nothing since a little after lunch yesterday. Maybe he's really putting some thought into his next post as David all but demanded. Can't wait to read it.

Fire before you buy 'her is a great thing!

Technically, there are other 45 caliber 1911's. There's .451 Detonics & .45 Winchester Magnum. I'm sure there's another one or two as well. BUT, the likelihood of you encountering them AND the likelihood of you paying what they would cost is less than 1% I would guess.

Lead is a great commodity. I would say, if you have molds and time, start casting that lead. You can always melt it down later to use for something else but if things are bad, you may not have a heat source OR you may not have a heat source you can afford to use. A bucket of cast .45's is just as good as a bucket of ingots as far as usability AND they are already ready already if you want to use them for whatever you cast them for. As far as copper goes, it has many uses. I built a small furnace that when fed air from a hair dryer will melt copper in small batches. Just to see if I could do it, I melted a handful, poured it into an oak board I had a groove in, then pounded it as round as I could get it on an anvil with a hammer. I them chucked the makeshift round bar up in my lathe and turned some copper hollow points in 45 caliber. They shot just fine. WTSHTF groups will clan together to survive. As clans become larger, small scale manufacturing will emerge among the intelligent ones. Think back to Jericho. Remember New Burn? They restored power to a machine shop and were manufacturing weapons and artillery. This idea is certainly not limited to a militant thought process. Replacement parts for mechanical tools will nonexistent. THe people who will be of the greatest value in a post apocalyptic society will be those who can contribute the most uncommon of things. Any ghetto trash can pull weeds from a garden but it takes a person with knowledge and skill to know the needs of the soil and the times and places to plant, how to harvest and save seeds from heirloom varieties. I've said this many times. THese are the days of learning. Every man here should be learning every skill he can learn. There's NOTHING you shouldn't try to learn. Sewing, canning, knitting and crocheting is NOT woman's work. If you were to happen upon a clan willing to take you in and were the only one who could mend clothes properly, you would become quite valuable and reserve your place among the one's who get to eat every day. Back on topic, Silver and gold are crap unless some sort of economy either recovers or is maintained. If it's all out hell on earth, lead, copper and even steel and aluminum stock [round, square, tube and angle] would carry more value than platinum.

Most writers for gun rags are morons. How they got their job I'll never know. There was an article not long ago in Handloader about cast bullets in .44 THe writer goes on to say that Johnson's Paste Wax can be used to lube the bullet with great results. WHAT? Is this guy high? JPW is a key ingredient in a good homemade bullet lube but you certainly CANNOT use it as a stand alone lube. What a marooon. These guys are why we have so many BS myths in the gun world. It's not the readers fault. THey are under the assumption that they are reading factual data presented by well informed professionals. These writers are responsible for the ridiculous inane arguments we see hashed out all the time. My penis is bigger than your's cause my gun has more knockdown power. OR they tout some new whizz bang cartridge that throws the same .30 bullet as a 30/06, only 200 FPS FASTER!!! ..AND it'll only cost $50 a box. OR real hunters hunt with this new ultrs super short over compensating magnum....instead of actually learning to shoot, you can use these MIRV ballistic peace keeping missile tipped rounds to compensate for your incompetency. I hate most gun magazines. Show me ONE that isn't full of poop.

Pre-82 copper pennies make great investments for those of us that are broke. They're already worth twice to three times their face value for scrap. It takes about 188 copper pennies to make a pound. Copper has been well over $1.88 for a long time and no chance it will go below that ever again.

Yes, water will make them expand. Line up a few milk just or two liter bottles with water and shoot a round into them. Maybe put the jugs in a large cardboard box so finding the bullet will be easier.
-
Come get them, I invite you to. Anytime.

Hello Dolomite Supafly, it's a pleasure to meet you. I have the same issues. It used to make my wife so mad she'd cry. She just shrugs it off now a decade later. She's come to terms with my lunacy. Reminds me of a buddy of mine who was pretty mad about being medicated for a diagnosis of ADD. He used to say the one good thing about ADD is that things never seem to bother you for very long. Get upset about something, give it a minute....wait...what?

What will be Obama's 'October Surprise'?

Paint china as a military threat and pose the question : Does America want to enter this crisis situation with a man who has no experience in the white house? The Sheeple/Zombie fodder of this country would swallow that like a catfish on a chunk of liver. -
How is that possible? They are one in the same.

I think it's a great idea. Maybe natural selection will rid us of a few morons.

Yeah, chili soup is funky. If you can't scoop it with a cracker, it's too thin.
-
I love me some chili!!! Funny though, Americans refuse to accept the fact that their chili is not chili. Chili doesn't have beans.

Glock 19 is supposed to be compact but it's still fairly good size. I carry one in a Serpa or a Galco high ride on a Galco reinforced instructors belt. I feel like I could easily carry a 17 with no problems either.

2 words: Femoral Artery.

Glad you mentioned this. I don't have kids but I got to get to work on one for my dog. If he's coming he's gotta carry his own food and water.
-
Be difficult to draw from. Of course I loathe any form of "inside carry" so it may work for you. You won't know unless you try it.
