1. 7 mag is a bad boy. Sweetest rifle in your neighborhood I'd bet.
2. Slow twist is paramount. I have not seen one damn thing to support this caliber's need for a fast twist. I am using a bolt rifle with a 1/10 twist and at 50 yards, I am shooting a sub 1/2" group with over a dozens loads ranging from a 110g FMJ up to a 247g cast bullet. No oblong or yaw can be seen, it's cuts a perfect circle in the paper. I DO know that this accuracy has much to do with the very well made barrel I sourced from Dolomite. I also know that the more common faster twists will not do this well. Especially with shorter lighter bullets. I had a 1/8 barrel on my first build and despite cycling issues, the accuracy was abysmal. If I were to take on another build [which I am not convinced I will, but thinking about it....] I will go with a 1/10 heavy or bull profile 16" barrel with a carbine gas system. I will keep the sledgehammer heavies for my bolt rifle and feed the AR a steady diet of lights.
3.
I didn't think about a rooftop. The gutters will catch the brass. Thanks!
Well, we've all been procrastinating about cleaning them out. If we clean them out, we can set buckets under the downspouts and use a broom to push them down the holes. Sweet!
4. Well, we all talk about sitting back on a rooftop wasting zombies to a preselected soundtrack. If they are good to their word, we'll get our wish. My only complaints will be all the cleaning I'll have to do on my rifle and all that brass I'll have to pick up, tumble, process and reload. Dangit! I just got caught up on my reloading!!!
5.
I got lots of 110 Vmax's, in the box and loaded. The 125 Noslers are sexier.
If we're going for sex appeal, I'll stick to the 85g. We have more in common. Shorter and quicker.
6.
You need to do another AR. I think you should do something like Dolomite, since you two are charter members of the weird ammo club . I would be hunting a differen't gas block. I'm betting there are some different designs that are less prone to lead fouling.
If I do build another AR it will eat nothing but lightweight, superfast stuff. Like 85-110g loads. An 85g Tokarev bullet over a greedy charge could get close to 3K. Also, 110g V-max or Ballistic tips are particularly nasty too.
7. I been itchin' to try these half jackets, http://www.midwayusa.com/product/222789/hornady-bullets-30-carbine-308-diameter-100-grain-short-jacket-box-of-100 THis is probably the best caliber i have ever worked with. I'm seriously considering another swing at an AR build. All NEW components this go 'round.
8. Come get some. I suggest they invest in some IOTV or better before they start. I'd prefer it to be more of a challenge.
9. I'd LOVE to be wrong, but I still think O will win. Why? Because Amerika is stupid and begs to screw itself.
10.
There is a strong difference between disciplining your child and "employing violence". And yeah yeah... violence has never solved anything. Except slavery, fascism, Nazism, Communism...
Right. If violence isn't solving a problem, you're probably not doing it right.
11. Someone please remind why I am supposed to give a crap? Let them act that way, and leave them to their own devices.
12. Don't hit anywhere other than the backside. Other than that, wear them out. That's why this country is full of whiny mamby pamby sissy mary piss ants. It's not fair. THe other kids don't like me. My parents don't love me. Stupid little brats. There's a reason kids are so stupid, parents lack the spine to prepare them for a world that doesn't care about their stupid worthless feelings. How they feel inside does not put food on the table. Amerika has successfully raised the largest group of cowards in the history of man. Solomon told you everything you need to know about raising kids. He knew more than Dr. Spock's idiot ars ever did. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.
13. I hated Glocks. Trashed them and the like. Then I shot one. Then I bought one(G19). Then I bought another(ODG19). Now I'm saving for another.
14. MOST comfortable? A Hammerli Free pistol. It feels like a smooth wooden glove. Seriously, like sliding your hand into a form fitted glove. Glock is second followed by a Luger. A 1911 is one step below last.
15. 20-30 year lifespan is fine. I won't live much past that anyway.
16. Because you can park a Kenworth on top of a storage container. Can you do that with single wide?
17. Small and simple all the way. We only need 4 real rooms if you will. A large bedroom that will double as a living room. A bathroom and a kitchen. Then a storage room for everything. If using the metal containers I would plan to only plumb one of them. No reason the bathroom, washroom and kitchen cannot be in one. That would really simplify things. We currently live in two rooms of this house. One is our bedroom where our closet, tv, recliner and all that is, then another doubles as a kitchenette and storage. No reason to change what we are accustomed to. There's no reason for the two of us to spend more than we need and 700-900 square ft is PLENTY.
18. M1 carbine in 10mm or a suppressed Savage 110 in .50 action express
19. Dolomite, I've thought all about that too. YOu can get a two story NICE storage building from them for less than 8 or 10K and finish it EASILY inside. The wife actually loves that idea. We may end up having to do that due to my limited ability and lack of good sense. We went and looked at the demo several times and there's plenty of room for us and the dog. I like the idea of the steel container a bit better for it's strength and if anchored, it'd be as impervious to storms as you can get without going full bore fallout shelter. It may be that I make an amalgam of the two and hide the metal building behind the other. So many options. I can't just jump up and do it today but I need to get going on it while I still have the available resources to do so. I figure I have five years at best before the currently building drama that I don't care to discuss publicly will have me at the end of the gangplank.
20. Yeah but I hate wood houses. Shingle roofs and gutters, typical wiring methods, the whole lot. I'm wondering if this would pass electrical inspection: My wife and I both love industrial looking things and we comment to one another in our day to day goings about when we see things as such. I'd like to wire the house after it's finished. Putting everything in rigid conduit and metal receptacle boxes. Expertly grounded and wired in a fashion one might encounter in a machine shop or manufacturing facility. I can't imagine that not being SAFER than minimum code.
21. Ehh? I'll take you up on that. PM sent.
22. That's good to know, thanks. I'm guessing paneled walls would dramatically decrease echo. Add too some hangings and furniture.
23. NOW we're getting somewhere!!!!
24. Any thoughts on a person using a shipping container for a permanent residence? Nothing as stomach churning as some of the doomsday preppers mind you. The wife and I are simple minded folk who care nothing for lavish style, preferring rigidity and freedom from maintenance needs over stylish looks. We are looking to buy land soon and move. Not interested in building a house or even buying one. Considering using a pair or trio of large steel shipping containers half buried as a host for a simple place to wait out the rest of our lives. This'll take a few years, but we are shopping for a parcel and will be seriously on the hunt starting next year. I don't see why I can't use a steel container, strip and insulate it and put up walls and some hardwood floors in one. At 35 years old, they should last my lifetime without leaking or rusting through. I'm thinking out loud here but I think three laid out in a C shape and one could pour a cement pad in the middle making a smart little pavilion/patio arrangement. It's my understanding that you can get these things delivered for a few grand. A total investment of 30K or so should deck them out VERY well. We've abandoned thoughts of leaving country and taken to the idea of the most simple rigid hobbit hole we can come up with. Things are not SO bad now, but the future will likely crumble beneath our feet in the future. The cushy ride me and the wife have had for the last decade is likely drawing to a close. Best set affairs in order that will allow us to live on as little as possible and that isn't a bunch of SHTF tin foil hattery either. Outside of city ordinances [for sake of argument, call this outside city limits] Are there any laws restricting what a person can use for a home?
25. What's sad, despite his horrible delivery and less than classy comments, he makes some good points. He just needs to stop trying to stir up the crap pot.
