This is not the way we do it on TGO- If you want to low ball someone do it in a private PM- For new members maybe you should read the rules before posting- But it could be your just a troll and can't read-8 points

IMO, the NRA is a useful whipping boy. They have the name recognition across pretty much the entire spectrum of political leanings. GOA, FPC, etc, not so much. And I like it that way. This gives the anti-gunners a big NRA-sized target and leaves those other orgs doing the actual work mostly left in peace to do what they do. The NRA is sort of a useful idiot.6 points

The higher ups sure had a good time on our money. When they busted Wayne LaPierre on all his illegal perks to the tune of 5.2 million, it sure shined a light on their corruption. I was no longer an NRA member after almost 30 years. I'm sure we're kicking a dead horse here, but good to be reminded why gun owners should swing their support to Gun Owners of America and other such pro-gun organizations. Our local range, Middle Tn Sporting Association, voted to eliminate the long running requirement of belonging to the NRA to be a MTSA member last year. That vote easily passed.5 points

@ TN Phil - The Taurus you mentioned is probably fine. A Ruger LCP or LC380, Shield, Taurus 605, Charter Arms .357, Rock Island M206, or used Glock would also serve just fine and not break the bank. If I had it to do over again, I would buy my first carry gun and then buy a good belt and holster, plenty of ammo, a way to carry reloads, a good light, frequent trips to the range, and classes on practical shooting - before buying another gun. You are starting a journey, not choosing a destination, and this stuff would help you get down the road smoothly.5 points

Don’t get me wrong, a Taurus is adequate, but honestly, as I am reading it, I think your mindset on it is a bit messed up. You are naturally correct in focusing on carry gun before the (presumably more expensive) fun gun in a couple of months. But the carry gun is life saving equipment, and therefore not something to skimp on. Especially when significantly better arms to be had for minimal price differences. On this forum you can often see well cared for Glocks (for example) go $400 or less. Additionally (and this part often gets overlooked) all the other equipment like spare parts, magazines, and (especially) holsters are ubiquitous. I recommend people build these costs into the initial investment for the best return. Lastly, have you shot numerous models, to include the Taurus, for firsthand experience? Online opinions (mine included) mean Jack squat in the face of personal experience.5 points

I think they’ll be alright. Ruger isn’t interested in the brand name, but they were interested in the manufacturing capacity. According to what I’ve read, those folks still have jobs.5 points

My nephew came over today and had a used Sig 226 9 MM he purchased from the guy that purchased it new. We took it to my range and ran 30 rounds through it. He wanted to hold down the round count through it. Round total is now 48. The 226 looked brand new and not a scratch on it nor any holster wear. Still in original box with all paperwork. Great pistol. Haven't met a Sig I haven't liked. I gave my Sig 229 to my grandson. He is a 40 cal fan. Edited to add. My wife said for me to give our nephew a gun. Gave him my new 686 + 3 inch, when I am through with it. Also gave my Grandson my Ruger MIni 14 Ranch Hand 223/556 2nd generation carbine when he was here last week. Going to take it to him in Sept when we travel to S Carolina and let him borrow it until I am through with it. Really thinning my collection so my wife will not be bothered with giving them away.4 points

FFS Fuddclowns, just shut up. GOA and NAGR are doing all the heavy lifting with FPC helping. NRA is a dinosaur org, full of corruption, which has engaged in a symbiotic relationship with the jack-booted baby burners of the ATF in a kabuki theater of "muh activism". Been sick of it for a decade, and then some. FU NRA, go away.4 points

We've had this discussion before on here a few times. But I'm still of a mind that the NRA shouldn't be doing anything that isn't related to firearm safety, training, and education. They lost the plot going into legislative influence, and didn't do much of a good job. Let GOA handle all that, and SAF can work the courts.4 points

JustED, it was not my pistol and nephew wanted to keep the round count low. I never asked him why but let him have his way. That pistol is a tank and felt like a pistol should. No fantastic plastic there. I will admit the pistol was pristine. Never noticed a blemish on the pistol. I cleaned and lightly lubed the Sig and sent him back home with it. I started with about 70 firearms and am now down to about 25. Several I inherited from my dad. All my 4 daughters, SILs, and grandkids (6) have mementoes from Pop Pop's collection. The ones that use them several different ones. Moped, I don't want to adopt anyone but still have a few to give away before I will be satisfied. Only pistols left and down to 1 12 Ga Mossberg mdl 500 house gun. Leaving my wife an ample supply should I go first. Does my heart good to see them putting the firearms to good use. I did when I was young and the little $20.00 410 I got in 1957, at age 9, is still killing squirrels, rabbits, and turkeys in South Carolina with my grandson and his dad. SIL sent me a movie of Parker killing a Red Squirrel this spring with the 410, and told me he really loved the little Stephens. He Turkey hunted also with it. Brought tears of joy to my eyes. One can't ask for more than that, guys. I have loved them in the past, and now they are still being loved. Is that not what you want for your treasures????4 points

IMHO, the right philosophy is to get yourself armed as fast as possible with the best gun you can afford. Your life will NOT be in jeopardy if it's a $250 Taurus instead of a $500 <insert brand that will better impress us on the internet>. If you like guns, you'll eventually want to upgrade to something with features you like better, but for now I think you're making a solid choice on a solid firearm, which is better than waiting until you have 60-80% more money saved up.4 points

If anyone still has stuff on order from Aero, I hope you already got it, or you might want to think about initiating a chargeback. Word on the street is that they just laid off a bunch of staff.3 points

The Jericho 941RB is a niche within a niche, an all steel, compact carry version of the Jericho 941 series. These are my favorite semiauto, da/sa pistols. They’re heavy, but relatively small, carry 13+1 rounds of 9mm, and just look and feel amazing in the hand. Because of the weight and design, the RB is also one of the softest shooting compact 9mm pistols I’ve ever used. SA trigger pull is nice and crisp, and the DA is better than any stock CZ I’ve owned. Only design changes I would like would be moving the deocker to the frame like a CZ P-01/PCR, and beveled edges in the front muzzle like Sig does for the classic P series. An all stainless option would’ve been amazing as well! Unfortunately, these have been out of production for several years now.3 points

Up for sale or trade is my Old Town Saranac 146 Canoe. I've had it a few years and have taken less than a dozen river trips with it. It has some minor scrapes on the bottom but nothing serious or deep, other than that it's in great shape and tracks really well but I've put to much money in my fishing kayak and prefer it these days. Would rather sell it but may be interested in trades. I think $250 would be a great deal for someone and I'll throw in a couple of inexpensive paddles and life vests.3 points

Went and shot a few different models, including the Canik TP9 Elite SF, CZ P10c, and the Ruger RXM in an attempt to further narrow down my choice for a carry firearm. A purchase was made online yesterday for a CZ P10c. That pistol not only felt better to me, but it was almost effortless to fire follow-up shots. Now begins the task of finding the best holster to use in an open carry cross draw role. I have to admit this is quite the adventure, and I'm having fun piecing everything together!3 points

The Taurus would be a good starter. I’ve owned one for 7 or 8 years. Not had any issues with it. But it’s not a pistol I carry. If you wanted to step up, a used police trade-in pistol might be the answer for just a little more money.3 points

I’m a Glock and 1911 guy.I trimmed the herd to just those two pistols years ago.A few weeks back I won a Springfield XD Mod 3. It’s the newest version of the XD that came out last year. They sell for around $300.Already cut for an optic, slide serrations look great, fiber optic FS,the trigger isn’t bad.So far I have 300 rds through it and it’s been 100% and very accurate to boot. It’s roughly the same size as the Glock 45/19x.3 points

A carry pistol should be your first choice. Find one that fits you, comfortable in the hand. I agree you should try and shoot a few different models before making your choice. The OP said "budget" renting pistols at the ranges around here doesn't qualify as "LOW budget". With that said, it might be cheaper than the wrong pistol. But it IS your choice, no one except you will know if you are comfortable with it, Practice is a high priority. Therefore, if one is on a budget I would agree with the lower priced gun and more ammo. I've never owned a Glock so I won't malign them other than to say they are the Camry of pistols, ugly, basic, working machines. And just like the Camry, they have risen to overpriced for the machine due to reputation. Also remember that Glock also fails, breaks, and have issues. I'll put my Taurus pistols round for round against any other brand. LAKELINE, M-CARBO, and GALLOWAY PRECISION all carry replacement/upgrade parts for Taurus G2/G3 pistols. There are also multiple videos on installing these parts as well as how to's on fixing perceived issues. As an example, a Glock 21 is twice what I paid for a Taurus PT845. And for a poly framed pistol I prefer the Taurus.3 points

HK SP5 that includes 3 mags, the HK carry bag, and the HK elastic sling. Perfect suppressor host. I used to shoot this with a Rugged Obsidian and it is butter smooth. There is a small paint imperfection around the warning label on the magwell. Thought it was a scratch, it is not. Trades: not interested in firearm trades but I will consider trades on Martin, Fender, or Gibson guitars. Electronic payment is preferred but I can do cash if you really have to. Must be willing to fill out a bill of sale. Happy to send more photos! Meet up here in Franklin, TN. I also have a Pelican 1700 with foam cutout as well if interested. The foam also has a cutout for a HK USP Tactical. Finally, because i've been getting emails like this pretty frequently, if you actually find someone with it cheaper, please include links. I'm happy to work something out/price match/ whatever you want to call it. Not a big deal.3 points

@TN_Raven Apologizes if I incited fear, was not my intention. Thankfully the safe technician side of locksmithing doesn’t get the same clout as picking locks on social media. As they say, locks only keep honest men out. I still recommend anything is better than nothing. The safe you linked looks more than reasonable and sounds like it accommodates your needs. I’ve not attacked that specific keypad before so I can’t speak to the exploits exactly nor would I publicly give a walkthrough. As far as digital locks on safes, DeviantOllam has a great YT video up on switching your digital to a mechanical….it’s not complicated.2 points

No secret I'm a Taurus fan. Currently have three in 45ACP, one 357 mag revolver, one 9MM and a 380 and looking for more. I have the precursor to the G3 in a PT111 G2. Not a fan of striker fired but it works well. I do not care for Taurus trigger feel on their striker fired pistols but I don't like striker fired in general. Unlike others, I've had very good results with Taurus. My recommendation would be GX4 unless you need the higher capacity. The ones I've picked up have had a better trigger than the G2 or G3's I've handled. Also they are slimmer making them easier to conceal and carry.2 points

Totally agree . . . But, there are those moments in life in the brush that for a few seconds your life passes before yours eyes. Out from the brush , 30 yds, --> It's about four feet high at the shoulders and charging. . .thinking: "Yummy, soft on the outside and crunchy on the insides". None of my kicker big bores have or ever had, scopes, for a reason. I prefer a big ghost peep, but express V notches work great too. Sometimes it's mom with cubs, sometimes a 500 lb gone feral boar thats' really really really pissed off at you. That's where a healthy practice with non-bench shooting is a good routine. Less pain is good. I've had moments, not embarrassed to admit, that I was 1/2 a second from pissing my skivvies. I do a LOT of standing, not bench rest, shooting. Once bench sighted to my likes , standing is wonderful field practice . I suppose it matters where/ why we are practicing. Deer don't bite, thank goodness.2 points
