Now that last week’s misunderstanding over the Tuskegee Airmen is water under the bridge, I feel compelled to share my interactions with one of America’s greatest unknown heroes. His name is Dr. Linkwood Williams. By the time I met him, we all just called him Doc, because he was a gynecologist. Doc was best friends with one of my best friend’s dad. The dad was Colonel E.G. Douglass. If you served in the Memphis Air National Guard in the 80’s or very early 90’s, you might know Mr. Douglass. Also, if you lived in the Raleigh Bartlett area around that time, you may have known them as co-owners of Douglass BBQ at the intersection of Stage and Covington Pike. What made Doc a great hero? Doc dropped out of college to become a civilian flight instructor for the world famous 332nd Fighter Group, also known as the Tuskegee Airmen. I’m certain that most of you know that even in the segregated military, where these men were expected to fail, they NEVER lost a bomber they were escorting, and were routinely requested as escorts by bomber crews. Amazing! IMO, outside of being a hero, he was just an inspirational man with a great sense of humor. He had every reason in the world to walk around like the sun rose and set with him, but he was more likely to just tell you a joke, and more importantly to me, he always remembered my name. Doc passed about fifteen years ago, but anyone interested in his story can watch this film about him that sits in the Library of Congress. It’s a little over an hour long, but well worth the time to learn about this history changing American! Reporter- “What the Tuskegee Airmen achieved was pretty hard to ignore.” Doc- “Yeah, I mean, you have to be totally oblivious to do so.” Here’s the link to Doc’s story, along with some screenshots I took from the documentary. The video flickers for about ten seconds before starting. https://www.loc.gov/item/afc2001001.62131/1 point

So I have to brag on my wife a bit! I have been wanting a SIG SAUER P320 for a while but been putting it off due to the price.I decided to sell one of my other pistols to help fund my new one. I sold my Taurus and was going to just save up the rest. Well I when i got home today from selling the Taurus My wife walked up and handed me the rest of the cash( she hides money around the house worse than squirrels hide nuts) for my new SIG and said "I know its the one you have wanted for a while, go and get it !!!!" I was completely floored so i drove straight to the gun store and was like a kid in a candy shop ...... now all that is left is to put in the trigger time and break it in well.1 point

I've got close to 2000 rounds through mine and it functions like a champ! The wilson combat module made a huge difference in grouping for me also just a heads up1 point

I love Sako's. That is why I bought this even though I don't shoot this caliber. Since I never shoot this I thought I would pass it on to someone who would actually use it. It is a 1967 L61R Sako Finnbear in 338 Win Mag. Overall it is in great shape. The bore is nice and shiny. Another reason I bought this is because it had all of the original paperwork from when it was first ordered. Just made it a little more cool in my eyes. It also comes with period scope bases and a box of Hornady Precision Hunter ammo. Not really looking for trades right now. $1000 $9001 point

Pretty cool parts kits. I’m always tempted by those but then I ask myself what in the world I’d do with it. Thanks for link.1 point

Have you looked at a 48? It’s a 43X with a 4” barrel. It’s essentially a 19 on slimfast and is better than a 19 or 43X IMO.1 point

I absolutely agree, @gregintenn . The WWII generation grew up in hard times and it made them strong. The easier and better we have it, the weaker we keep getting.1 point

I actually much prefer my 6mm over my 6.5. Seems to shoot flatter.1 point

If you are active in Cowboy Shooting, ask someone at one of the shoots It has never been of interest to me, but ORSA did have a quite active Cowboy group If not a member there. Look them up online Oak Ridge Sportsman’s Association and find out who hosts the cowboy matches Hope that gets you somewhere.1 point

I'll take it. Pm inbound. Edit to add: How this lasted long enough (52 minutes) for me to see it is one of the great mysteries of the universe.0 points

Are the same procedures and expected turn around times from 14 years still applicable today? Just wondering.0 points
