According to the article I read this morning, the family was NOT on the shooter's property. I hope they throw him in jail for a very long time. Even if there's a backstory, there's no excuse for shooting at people under those circumstances.3 points

I can’t believe your timing! Not to steal your thread. I started to look thru my list for the next item I need to sell and realized it was missing a as couple things. I was going to post a question here, “when is the last time you invented your safe “ I decided to verify serials, record missing, and take pictures. That last thing hung me out since I was not going to use a mothership scanned smartphone. Dug out my retired old digital camera, hunted down its proprietary charger to revise long dead batteries….. It was most of 8 hour, what a chore. I can only imagine you guys with 40+ years worth and multiple large safes. I definitely found somethings I’d forgotten about. Glad it’s done. On the downside, I was able to reorg like a great game of tetris (good) and made room where there was none before (bad, very very bad). Somehow having space makes one less inclined to sell. But I picked another hard one for me to let go to keep it “easier” to proceed. Good luck in your search @Defender, I feel your pain!2 points

Props to the metro Nashville government - something I rarely find myself saying. They reported 40 trucks out starting before the snow. Of 5800 miles of road in the county - they plowed 2900 of them.2 points

Up for sale is a rare bird - Glock 19 Gen 3 with the coveted RTF2 grip texture. Priced at $500. Recent sales on Gunbroker were over $700, with just the frame on one selling for $450. However, I’d prefer not to go through the hassle of shipping. Includes 2 mags and a generic Glock box. Spring Hill area.1 point

Two tone Kimber 1911 in 45ACP $600 Chattanooga area Kimber Custom Target II has the following upgrades: Kart Match barrel Thick barrel bushing 20 LPI front strap Flat Trik Trigger Ed Brown magwell Also two 7-round mags with base pad update 12/23/2024 Took out a few guns that I'm trying to sell to Mountain Top Gun Range, north of chattanooga, to check the accuracy and function of the guns since I haven't used them in years. I did a 5 shot grouping at approx 15 yards with the guns and the best I could do offhand was about 1.14" for all 5 shots (3" diameter sticky targets), however I was able to keep 4 rounds down to about 0.82". The gun is capable of higher accuracy, the limiting factor is definitely me. Being in my 50's my vision is not what it used to be and my hold is a bit more shakier than I remember. bullets used for testing were 200gr lswc with 5.2 gr of W231 test results from 12/23/20241 point

My daughter is coming over to help me inventory my guns. She’s a good daughter, if you don’t count her teen years. LOL. Anyway, I have been looking for 2 pistols that I may have traded/sold but can find. I know my intent was to unload them (pun intended) but for a person who keep meticulous records on his firearms, I still show them in my on hand inventory. Zero chance someone stole them, too many alarms and indoor/outdoor cameras for that, but if I can’t locate them I will mark them sold. There has probably been a couple occasions where I met someone and stayed out all day afterwards, instead of my usual come straight home to document my records. I retired this year and have endeavored to reduce clutter in my room, the gun safes and the room where I store empty firearms boxes and other things. Also I need to rethink my home defense/invasion strategy and insure outside safe staged weapons are well thought out and in the right places. I’ve got three shotguns that I am going to make primary for each room I use. I’ve got a 20 ga Shockwave that I want to be my primary, and have a Mossberg 12 ga Cruizer pump which is bigger than the Shockwave wave but not as big as those that have a stock. Then I’ve got a Saiga semi-auto HOG that I may just leave in the safe. Also I have my home EDC that is equipped with a laser/light combo that is next to me usually in whatever room I’m in. I also have an AR and an AR pistol. Right now I only have the Shockwave in my former office where I spent most of my time before retiring. Ind really appreciate and suggestions you guys have. i figure if the zombie apocalypse happens, ill need a different strategy for external defense, but I’m good on my plan for that, so just needs ideas for hoods/methheads breaking in that will probably run away after a few shots from me, if they can.1 point

I had an earlier one, not first batch but close enough. Functionally it was fine. No issues. It did go back as they forced an optic plate into the undersized optic cut of the slide which damage it. they had to recut the slide and refinish. Springfield from a service perspective is good on the customer service end. The service dept, well…it’s a crap shoot. The cerakote after the repair was pretty bad. But they stepped up after I got ahold of them and addressed it. I would inspect anything you are looking at pretty closely. Avoid any obvious problems opposed to relying on service support to address something you are willing to accept thinking they’d fix it (true of any US company). That said, It’s a great platform and in the end you should be good.1 point

Guns handed down by family members are some of our most cherished. I’m sure many of you will have examples to show here. I have my Dad’s first rifle, a Stevens single shot.22 and a Remington semi auto.22 given to me by my grandfather. Yesterday my father gave me his Smith and Wesson model 19-4 Combat magnum. I have memories of seeing it safely protected in his bedside table drawer but have never shot it. He said he thinks he only fired it once or twice. Still looks like new.1 point

Be ready for some serious cold to start early next week. They are throwing around that "Polar Vortex" term a bunch lately in the 10 day forecast. Highs in the low 20's and single digit lows Monday and Tuesday. We got 3.5 inches in the sheltered area near the house and 5.5 at the deepest spot. It was a heavy fairly wet snow in my area. I got out an cleared the driveway late Friday afternoon as it was tapering off and my snow blower made quick work of it. What little fell after I cleared the drive was gone by the time the sun hit it Saturday morning. They did a good job in my area since they had such a solid forecast. They pretreated the road Thursday evening then plowed twice on Friday. The steep hills on our road that are normally a real problem were a non issue this time. Could have gotten out Friday if I had needed to. We did go out Saturday and the roads were perfectly fine. Even most of the area parking lots seemed pretty clear (so I was not able to attempt any AWD donuts).1 point

Then there was a commenter at the bottom of the article- Primarily blaming all the carry laws and us nut cases that are allowed to bear arms- We just always want to whip out our gun and shoot at someone- How about putting the blame exactly where it belongs-squarely on the shoulders of the shooter and leave the rest of us out of it-1 point

My usual process has been buy online, pick up from FFL. EZ PZ, Doing it that way for years. Saves time and 10% on any purchase plus free shipping....No high blood pressure, Just a lot of time wasted w the whole ID thing.IMHO, if you pass TIC and have 1 or more gov issued photo Id, w address you should be good to go, and after spending over 500 in the store.. after all the BS, getting a safety lecture etc...they could have at least said thanks..DL was valid, they kept asking for the paper that went with it, said I dont carry it or get pulled over, dont have to have it and any officer can run my dl regardless of displayed date.. All good, first and last time for everything...Ive shopped there once or twice usually when the ol lady wanted to go, but never bought guns as theyre always at retail or carried bryco, taurus and other crap id never own..at least the gift cards got used and im done1 point

From my experience, it has a lot to do with the department manager. I dealt a lot with a Cabelas (not local) and it was great. Used guns were you could find a decent deal. Then the manager was transferred to another store and the new one was more worried to make sure everyone knew "he was the boss". The dealing with him stopped my trips to Cabelas and more on-line. To be honest I don't think corporate really cares.1 point

New years bump... Would look at older 4runners or land cruisers as trade options too. Or $8500 cash1 point

This isn't surprising as BP sucks. I've explicitly told family not to get me BP gift cards for birthdays and Christmas. "IF" I'm at Opry Mills, I will drop in. Same inventory, same overpricing, literally every time. Tell me you never want me to visit again without telling me you never want me to visit again.1 point

15 years ago I worked asset protection for a Walmart in a small town. The manager of the photo department was a busy body who thought everyone was up to something. She calls me in a panic one afternoon and frantically says "help, there's a man with a gun over here". Mind you this was before public mass shootings were as prevalent as they are today, and I lacked the desire of self preservation that I have today. Knowing how the photo manager was, I decided to check things out for myself instead of calling 911 as she wanted me to. I stroll over to her department and low and behold I saw an off duty police officer that I knew. I told him "you aren't going to believe this, but..." He had just gotten off duty and has taken off his uniform shirt and had an Under Armor type shirt on. He apologized and explained that he had pulled his shirt over his gun, but it had ridden up. (He wasn't wearing a duty belt, just a regular OWB holster). I laughed and told him I thought that it was funny. The photo manager called me in disgust because she thought that he was one of my friends and I was allowing him to bring a gun into the store. She quit talking rather quickly when I explained who he was.1 point

Not surprising from people who would complain to Starbucks that their security guards were armed. You know, the guys hired to protect the people complaining. The irony being all law enforcement except for County Sheriffs are hired security.1 point

OMG someone has a gun! Lets call people that open carry about someone open carrying. That would be funny if it was not so true.1 point

Maybe not here, but in CA, NY, MA, CT I bet that would happen-lol. Actually a buddy used to open carry in CT, more than once when he was in a grocery store someone would call the PD.1 point

Immediate cowering, run out of the store screaming? Based on all the responses on this site over the years about open carry, yes. lol Just kidding1 point

Reading this was great entertainment. As always I don't care how you carry, it's about the person. Are you responsible, do you train, do you have proper equipment. I see concealed carriers that do it wrong, as well as open carriers. I shake my head at both. If you are aware, and you should be I'd bet you can guess who's carrying. I do both and yes I have a retention holster(level 2) for open carry, id say 85% I conceal carry. Carry how you want, don't judge those that do it differently then you. Do I recommend someone have an cheap unreliable firearm no, but if that's what they can afford I get it. I hate the way my wife shoots, but it works for her and she hits. Anyone who say their way is the only way, good luck.1 point
