  5. I expect that we will discover that this is a handmade silencer. I also think that in light of that, he made a deliberate decision to manually cycle, the pistol, instead of attempting to manufacture a Nelson device to provide the requisite back pressure necessary to cycle a silenced pistol. His target was in Midtown Manhattan, and the likelihood of encountering any sort of armed response, was extremely low. That said, I do not believe based upon the reporting available that this was a pro. This was very likely a highly motivated individual with a personal act to grind who put a lot of planning into the assassination. The casings found at the scene had “deny“ “defend“ and “depose“ written on them. It is believed that it is a reference to this book. https://delaydenydefend.com/ While this particular solution isn’t in the book, it does appear that the assassin took the subtitle too heart and decided to do something about it. The online reaction has been something to watch. The Internet as a whole has pretty much zero sympathy for the deceased, and in many cases is expressing quite a lot of glee regarding the events. I doubt seriously that those in the industry will engage in any amount of introspection with regards to why the public has reacted the way they have, but I will be highly interested in this trial if they do catch him alive. I expect that his defense attorneys will put UHC and by proxy the entire insurance industry on trial. This guy could very well turn into a Marvin Heemeyer style folk hero, but at a much larger scale. Most people don’t have much of a beef with their local governments. The number of people who feel that the health insurance industry have wronged them easily numbers into the tens of millions, if not most of the country.

  6. He hasn’t been caught thus far, and honestly, I’m not sure how many people have a genuine interest in finding him. It’ll get interesting when this starts happening to politicians.

  7. I’m seeing a lot of people suggest that healthcare CEOs should go into hiding or employ more private security and I could not possibly disagree more. You can't live the rest of your life in fear. I think it's imperative that they get back to work, in person at least 3 days a week at the headquarters address listed on their company's website.

  9. Thanks to all for the help. I have ran out of dirty clothes to test it on. I did run an empty load with just water and vinegar in it. I hope this cleaned any old soap that may be stuck into crevices and such. Plus I think the Heavy Duty cycle worked well and no suds possible because it uses more water. Maybe because the "Eco" cycle has such a low water amount and it can't dilute the detergent as well.

  10. Speed Queen? We recently got a Speed Queen and had the same issue. I researched it and decided to stop using the ECO setting. Something about using less water on final rinse. No more suds. Now we use Permanent Press or Heavy Duty.

  13. I recently inherited a P-38 that my wife's grandfather brought back from WWII. (Also have the documentation from the Army for the weapon) Unfortunately it appears that over the years someone tried to "restore" the gun which basically consisted of removing the bluing. I know that it is generally frowned upon to refinish historical pieces. But... I have no plans to sell so I really don't care about decreasing value, and I would personally enjoy the gun more if it looked a bit more presentable. I'm torn on what to do with this. The gun is 100% heirloom/conversation piece and may see occasional range use (I've never fired it but the trigger is amazing). Would I be committing blasphemy if I had it professionally reblued?

  15. Anyone catch the video of this? Pretty shocking and likely planned. Shooter used a suppressor that seemed to keep the slide from cycling correctly. https://youtu.be/CLQM3jqV9AE?si=k3sJ8yN-PBcpaNgX https://apnews.com/article/unitedhealthcare-ceo-manhattan-shooting-death-7f6581ba6b0b520938d82c361e77a83c

Originally I bought this and started the upgrades, then realized I wanted a folder, so I swapped the upper receiver for a Matador Arms MAT-9, but then I heard the Foxtrot Mike AR-9 lower worked better with the MAT-9....long story short, I built a completely different AR-9 and then put this one back together to sell. 17. There are 8 million people in New York. And despite being one of the most heavily surveilled cities in the world - that works to the shooter’s advantage. He disappeared in Central Park - and again at the Port Authority bus terminal. A city offers a lot of advantages. Despite running a grid and having the contents of every trash can in midtown - he’s in the wind. We’ve got all kinds of tooling these days - but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him remain at large for a while. It also wouldn’t surprise me to see him turn himself in.

  18. Good point on the sensory issue. My experience was not a gun battle, but shooting at a deer. While I can say that many times I never felt the recoil or was bothered by the noise in the past, when shooting at game, for some reason this time my senses where incapacitated. Adrenaline probably has some thing to do with that.

  20. I love Sako's. That is why I bought this even though I don't shoot this caliber. Since I never shoot this I thought I would pass it on to someone who would actually use it. It is a 1967 L61R Sako Finnbear in 338 Win Mag. Overall it is in great shape. The bore is nice and shiny. Another reason I bought this is because it had all of the original paperwork from when it was first ordered. Just made it a little more cool in my eyes. It also comes with period scope bases and a box of Hornady Precision Hunter ammo. Not really looking for trades right now. $1000

  21. Alabama is not in yet. Still a weekend of football to play. I hope they get in, even though this years team is an enigma. You have no idea which Alabama team will show up on any given Saturday! The best version of 'Bama can win it all. The worst version can't beat Vandy. Football is entertainment. Entertainment can be profitable. But they have to put the best "package" together to draw the most viewers. If the committee has four teams and only one can go into the playoffs, they surely are considering which team will provide the most viewers. Miami? Ole Miss? Alabama? Someone else? After this weekend, we'll see if 'roll tide' still makes the final cut. No matter what the committee decides, there are always unhappy people. I'd just remind them that last year, only FOUR teams got in. Now, three times as many get a chance. If their team didn't make the cut, it's because they weren't good, or entertaining, enough. Maybe next year they'll do 16 teams. It won't matter - someone's still going to be butt hurt & cry "it's not fair!" Welcome to LIFE, The ultimate teacher of 'not fair'.

  25. Webster says the importance of the victim is the difference between assassination and murder. Good to know that I don't have to ever be worried about being assassinated...one less thing to worry about.

  26. In several different definitions I looked at, the person assassinated typically is of importance and the the reason being for political or religious. One interesting this I read was “or in exchange for money” so if Joe Blow is killed by his wife, he was murdered. If his wife pays someone to kill him, he was assassinated.

  27. There may be some truth to that, but this totally was an assassination.

  28. My 9mm is about as quiet as a .22 semiauto and more reliable, but I've loaded it with what my buddies call "nerd" ammo. It's not as quiet as my bolt .22 though. It has 1k psi less muzzle pressure than standard subsonic. My single shot .45 acp is definitely louder, but only when compared to the 9mm and .22. I mean you could shoot a guy with the 45 outside your living room window with you in the living room and you wouldn't have a clue.

  29. Those facts don't matter, they will just say he had a silencer and committed a murder with it. Having the most gun related murders in blue cities, mostly with pistols, hasn't stopped them from going after ARs.

  31. I can't say exactly but once the incisions healed the doc said it would be fine. I'm very happy with the result. Worried I would have trigger control or aiming issues but it seems those worries were rocking an empty chair. You have my prayers and best wishes for quick and successful recovery.

  32. I just did a load of clothes on the "Heavy Duty" cycle and there was no suds coming out the back ! My wife said that she has always used the "Eco Wash" setting which makes me think it uses less water and might build up soap. I think I'll run an empty load on hot water and a little bit of vinegar. Maybe it will cut any soap build up.

  35. It sounds like you and your wife have found a system that works really well for both of you, even if it’s not the “traditional” way couples vacation. I think it’s great that you’ve both recognized your differences and found a way to enjoy life without forcing each other into situations that would cause stress. It’s not odd—it’s practical and shows mutual respect. In my family, we like to mix solo and shared activities too. This summer, my wife and I are planning a trip to a new water park in Florida, something we both enjoy. If you’re ever considering a fun family activity, I’d recommend looking into it. You can check amenities to make sure it suits your needs. Flexibility and understanding are key in any relationship, and it sounds like you’ve nailed that balance perfectly!
