  2. My grandson, now 16, is living the life I lived as a boy of the same age. He is hunting and fishing almost every day and loves it. I am almost envious, sometimes. Age and diminished ability will do that to you. He sends me pictures of his bounty often. Really into duck hunting at present. His dad said he is hunting and fishing almost every day. He gave Parker 2 more years before college to do this. He has his own ride, and boat, and he and his friends are really enjoying the outdoors. He lives in Mt Pleasant S Carolina and has a boat launch ramp in the subdivision where he lives. It leads into the Charleston Harbor where Fort Sumpter is located. My daughter went to work in a business and the owner had a 18' Jon boat, with a 50 horse Johnson, that he allowed the gas to foul the carbonator, so the boss told Parker he would give it to him if he got it repaired and let him use it if he ever wanted too. Parker was 14 at the time. His dad took it and had the motor repaired and Parker has used it for 2 years now. He hunts rabbits in season. Kills Swamp Rabbits and squirrels in the F M preserve. The Francis Marion Wildlife Preserve is just down the road from where they live, and they allow hunting. It is a hunting and fishing dream. He gets in Charleston Harbor and fishes for the giant Redfish when they run in the spring and fall. He has learned the high and low tied cycles and has really become acquainted with the dangers of ignoring nature. He sent me video of him shooting squirrels with a childhood 410 that my father purchased for me in 1956, and it is still knocking squirrels out of trees. It brought a tear to my eye when I first viewed the video. Parker told me he loves the 410. I gave his dad several of my guns so he could have them when Parker comes of age, and he is using them often. Like I said I am almost envious, but I am so glad he is getting this start in life. And by the way, they are enjoying the fruits of their harvest as well. I encouraged him to let their mother teach them how to cook their bounty themselves. Made me enjoy the bounty even more. Nothing wrong with a tasty shore or field lunch, you know! They are into camping also. What more could a 16 Y O like, except girls, and I think he has a sweetie also. Oh, to be an outdoors Kid. I loved my childhood. I think on it often. "Old Men Dream Dreams", I guess it is true.

  11. Up for sale is a 4" PSA PX9 - 9mm AR-9 that is Glock Mag compatible How much? $750. What is the round count? 0 (never fired) Any blemishes? There is one mark on the upper receiver near the ejection port. There is a light scratch on the PSA logo, left side. See photos for details. What's in the box? PSA PX9 complete AR-9 1 15-round Glock OEM Magazine What parts are original and what is upgraded? Original: PSA PX9 Classic EPT Lower Receiver PSA Trigger SB Tactical SBA3 Pistol Stabilizing Brace Upper Receiver 4" Chrome moly vanadium steel barrel (1/10 twist) Bolt Carrier Group: PSA Gen4 Hybrid 9mm BCG PSA Fluted Flash Can PSA Charging Handle Upgraded: Breek Arms RG2-S M-LOK Handguard (4.25") Primary Weapon Systems Enhanced Buffer Tube with Ratchet Lock Castle-nut and Endplate Bravo Company BCM Ambidextrous Safety Strike Industries Latchless Ambidextrous Charging Handle Bravo Compay BCM Grip Mod 3-KD (short) AT3 Pro Series Flip-Up Backup Iron Sights Why sell this? First, I have an addiction to tinkering with my firearms. Originally I bought this and started the upgrades, then realized I wanted a folder, so I swapped the upper receiver for a Matador Arms MAT-9, but then I heard the Foxtrot Mike AR-9 lower worked better with the MAT-9....long story short, I built a completely different AR-9 and then put this one back together to sell. Looking for any trades? Not currently, just cash. What are your terms for sale? Face-to-face sales only - facilitated in the Mount Juliet, TN police department headquarters parking lot designation for person-to-person exchanges. This cuts down on scams and counterfeit cash deals. Must have valid TN Carry Permit. Must be legally allowed to purchase a firearm. Cash only. Email with any questions.

  17. It’s not that we can’t picture it, it’s that we see the picture and we see the price and and we get excited. That seems like a great deal. And that’s because it is, but then we see the accessories are not included. But again, it’s totally fine, but it’s generally accepted to include the price of everything shown. It just leaves you as a bad taste in your mouth, but that’s more of a marketing thing, that’s all I’m saying. Also, that’s a Razor and an RMR in a Badger Ordinance mount. I’d have more faith in my gear that it’s not going to lose zero. But you do your thing man. Good luck with the sale. It’s a sweet rifle as she sits. Just trying to offer some advice on how to get it moving. The more expensive it is the harder you've got to work to sell it.

  19. The Para is simply a 1911 with a wider grip, but true 2011 style guns have a modular grip that is usually slightly narrower than Paras, Rock Islands, etc. I suspect that was half the point of even creating the 2011. I bet a 2011 with a short trigger would be a game changer for you. I wish you could try mine.

  21. If they were my kids, I would be glad they are into the outdoors rather than the urban thing of liquor and drugs and hanging out somewhere trouble is looming. Why my dad allowed me to be in the outdoors although I did not have the privileges of my own boat or auto. My dad had a boat, and he and I used it. Had a tent and we used it. Had a popup trailer and we used it. Well, you get the point "He" and I used them. O, how I miss him. Wish we could have been closer in my later life. Edited to add; We lived in another state and had 4 daughters to raise.

  24. This is what I'm getting at. That WOW, this feels good. I think if everyone had the opportunity to train and shoot with any pistol available before we buy there would be a lot less resales. If you look at the classifieds and GB as well as the used section in your local dealer you see a lot of "not quite" handguns for sale. I know there are flippers and collectors who just want a change but we are faced with the constant biggest, best, newest in design, caliber, safety, whatever. Look at the furor a couple years back on the new "carry" caliber. The do all, be all, end all carry pistol bullet. It has dropped off the radar in the circles I travel. My favorite carry pistol is heavy, there was never an option for alloy frame. If it had a polymer frame it wouldn't feel as good in the hand and definitely wouldn't be as easy to shoot. I'd like a bigger mag but that would throw the grip size and trigger reach off. So there we are in the compromise zone again. And I apologize in advance for offending, but the G pistols are, um, ugly. That is MY OPINION not yours, if you like it and it works for you it shouldn't matter. But many will buy what they are told is "the best" by salespeople or buddies or some influencer rather than take the time to shop and find that great feeling comfort zone sidearm. Truly, that is fine with me. It keeps the manufacturers and dealers on their toes to make more. But it's detrimental to the new shooter who may now own something they will never be comfortable with. Yep, I'm a machine nut, I love machines, mechanical stuff. Like Indian Larry I want to see the machanicalness of it. I like metal pistols and wooden grips. I see the beauty in the design and machining and feel the artistry of the build. So while I own and use poly framed pistols, they will never be my top choice. Not going to get into the design aspect here but this is part of why I LIKE what I like. I own better looking pistols than my favorite, I own higher mag capacity pistols, lighter pistols, but the last one you'd want to see come out of my holster if you were a threat is the one that fits me, works, and is loaded with proper ammo. At that point, magazine capacity, weight, looks, style, nothing would make an attacker's life more pleasant. When I grip this one, it falls into place, everything fits correctly. When I squeeze the trigger it breaks clean and consistent and goes bang, every time. It puts the round where I point it. When using the sights for 25 yd shots, it hits point of aim. I've had two of these and both have been just a joy (lost the first one in a divorce). Only one failure which was traced back to dirty ammo. So yeah, I am quite comfy with it. And my little pocket pistol is as good just smaller. If you want to know what handgun is now my newest biggest bestest want to have, see Kimber 2K11. If it fits my hand it could dethrone my current fav but it's doubtful. I'm still saving because I think it's gorgeous.

  29. deerslayer makes some good points, but I disagree on caliber selection as a blanket statement. Profieicency is of utmost importance. Lack of strength or skill may make a smaller caliber, even a .22 the most logical choice. If a new shooter, practice time and comfort with a smaller caliber with good shot placement is much more effective than a miss with a larger caliber. Once one is more experienced, a larger caliber may be in order. If one is intimidated by recoil, etc than they are much less likely to have any gun available for immediate use. Bad guys are likely to flee upon the first sight of a firearm regardless of caliber without a shot fired. If not accuracy is king. I have yet to have anyone volunteer to hand-hold targets for me downrange while I shoot .22's.

  33. When I was 8 years old, my dad took me on my first hunt. The excitement was killing me. I put on 3 or 4 pairs of pajamas and then my Camo over them. Dad told me deer are alerted to the color white, so I made sure not to even put on white underwear. He thought that was pretty great. He put his Amacker climbing stand on his back and grabbed his Sporterized Springfield 30-06. I grabbed my Daisy BB gun and off we went into the woods of Mississippi. I didn't know that Dad didn't know what he was doing. His previous deer hunting experiences were in Texas as a kid, which was a long time before and pretty different than the style of hunting in Mississippi. To me, he was the best deer hunter in the world and I was just elated to be with him. He was a tall man at 6' 5", attached his climbing stand to a tree and helped me climb into it. Below me at the base of the same tree, he sat down in the leaves and thats where we were for the next 2 or 3 hours. I was as high on life as an 8 year old kid could be. I remember being so quiet, so focused and praying so hard to see a deer. We both got skunked that day having not seen any deer but I was so hooked and couldn't wait to tell mom how our hunt went. I didn't hunt again until the next deer season when I was 9 years old. Same routine, 3-4 pairs of pajamas, no white underwear, then Camo but this time instead of my Daisy I had a a Remington 722 in .222 Remington. This gun was a gun my grand dad bought in Texas to use at his ranch. My grand dad took countless deer and coyotes with this gun but what meant more to me than that was this gun was the gun my dad used to kill his first deer with when he was a kid. All my dad's 3 siblings also used this to kill their first deer. This gun had a long legacy of being a whitetail hammer. This time, we were setup in the woods on an old logging road in a box blind on one of his friends properties. It was a small blind and I was sitting in his lap the whole time. This time, concentrating on being quit, focused and again praying non stop to see a deer sapped all my energy. Having given up hope, I rested the gun barrel and the buttstock on 2 window seals and rested my head on the underside of the gun and went to sleep. The next thing I know, dad is shaking me saying "wake up! theres a deer! wake up!" I open my eyes and see 2 big doe about 50 yards out. I grab my gun, and in the process we got busted. Those deer blew at us and stomped at us, then took off. Oh man I was so disappointed but my dad said, keep watching son, deer will to circle back around. Sure enough they circled back around and were crossing the logging road about 120 yards away at this point. I got behind the gun and was looking so hard to find them through the scope, scanning with the gun all over but only seeing trees. Dad said, look up with your eyes and dont try to find them with the scope! So I look up, see them, now I'm on them. I clearly remember seeing my crosshairs bounce from the bottom of the kill zone to the top of her spine, up and down, up and down trying to keep it steady. I squeezed the trigger and she dropped in her tracks. Man, I started screaming with excitement, dad was celebrating with me and I took off down that ladder so fast with dad yelling at me to slow down and to not fall. We ran up to her and she was still alive but not able to move much. I had hit her in the spine. So dad took out his Dan Wesson .357 Magnum revolver with an 8" barrel and finished her off. He dipped his fingers into her blood and wiped it on my face. This started my love for all things outdoors with my dad. I started tagging out nearly every year on doe but eventually, I wanted a buck. Dad said the first buck I shoot, we will get mounted. As a kid I passed on a few smaller 4pt bucks because I wanted something BIG. It was hard being 11 and 12 years old and passing on these 4 points but I knew what I wanted and knew it would eventually happen. I spent a few seasons hunting separately from my dad. I was a very responsible kid with guns and using tree stands. Dad taught me to be safe and I never broke the rules. Eventually that buck would happen. And just like my first deer, dad and I happened to be hunting in another box blind together when I tagged my 8 point. He was so proud. Dad always told me that he wanted me to take him hunting when he got old and I was looking forward to the opportunity to return the favor. On my birthday in 2019, dad went to the hospital with what they thought were stroke symptoms. He was an exceedingly healthy man so it seemed unusual but for the previous few months we also noticed my dad's personality and his way with words were changing. We thought it was just work stress and didn't think for a second it was because he'd be diagnosed with a brain tumor. He had surgery and was given 6 months to live. He appealed to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for additional time and thankfully lived another 4 and a half years. As promised, I took dad hunting. It wasn't as much as we would have wanted because I was busy with raising my family but those hunts and fishing trips we did together were very special. Last fall my dad was told his cancer had come back and was inoperable. I never got another opportunity to take him hunting again because his health had declined so rapidly and he went to be with Jesus December 27th. What a crushing blow. Eternally thankful for the extra time but you can never be fully prepared to lose your best friend. Some of his last words to me was that he was proud of me. Words that I have heard him say many times before in my life. I told him there wasn't a day that I didn't already know that. So this deer season hits different. And it sucks, so bad. I almost didn't go last weekend because the grief was just hitting so hard. Growing up, I always wanted those heirloom 30-06 and .222 rifles in my safe and now seeing them in there, I hate I cant give them back. Now I have my own kids and my middle son (6) has just started begging me to take him hunting just as I did my dad. When he is ready, or any of my other kids are, they will have that .222 in their hands and continue on the legacy of really great man.
