  1. Update - we finally made contact with my friend in Black Rock. They lost their house and a bunch of their things - but they are safe. Thankful to put one more person on the safe list!

  2. We ventured out today on our isolated Island and could not believe the generosity being shown. There is at least 6 places along the 25 mile road that doesn't go anywhere giving out food and water. We got some bottle water at one about a mile from our house and some staples like bread and milk etc. Tried to make a cash donation to help replenish and they said no. Everything was donated and an another truck was coming this afternoon. We then tried one the other direction in the hopes they had bulk water that we could fill our jugs for flushing and dishwashing first one had a long line so we kept going down to where we heard they brought a big tanker in, like 5th wheel semi size tanker and they filled up our jugs for us then told us we had to take a case of bottled water even though we had plenty at the moment. They said everyone that stops gets at least a case. Then to our surprise a small specialty grocery next door was not only open but had electricity. There internet connection was down so cash only. Not a problem we keep cash on hand just in case of a power outage not expecting a massive flood. So we indulged in some treats we probably would normally buy along with some fresh cold cuts, eggs and 2 of their great deli sandwiches. Then back home, pretty good outing. Found a neighbor that we had only met once sitting at the end of the driveway (we are at the top of the road so it is a good place to see about half the road). He asked if we needed anything he was apparently out check us old people to see if we needed anything. I assume he saw us leave and was waiting for us or guarding the road, because after he talked he took off. Second neighbor that has checked on us and offered to help if we need anything. Our neighbors are pretty much friendly but it isn't a let's get together neighborhood, so it is great that they are willing to offer help. Even the fellow that does our lawn work, that lives out of the isolated area, texted yesterday and today checking if we were ok and even offered to bring us food, water and gas if we need him, he is a volunteer at one of the food/water stations. There are great people out there.

  6. Just to update everyone, I got the Glock 21 and bought two additional used mags for $10 a piece. After I got the pistol out of layaway, I took it to the range. The Glock 21 and all three mags functioned flawlessly! The only knock is the NS are dead. I’ll need to replace them. I think I’m just going to put regular sights back on. This is a backpack/truck gun, so it’s not going to see the light of day very often. The life span on new NS would be very short. It’s just not worth the money to me.

  7. She needs a bullet that has been fired and recovered from a biological organism. I handed her a bullet that hit a target just over 1k. She said the engraving looked fantastic, but she wants it to be a bullet from her handgun. Deer season just got exciting. Lol

  10. With all the REAL cheating in sports, like drugs, stealing signals, roughing up baseballs, etc, I think what they did to Pete Rose is a travesty. I think gambling is stupid and immoral, but betting on your team to win wouldn't even be on my radar if I was the commissioner.

  11. You're exactly right. The .40 takes a lot of undeserved shade thrown it's way by folks that do not understand it or have not taken the time to shoot it enough. One of the best deals I ever got on a handgun was about 15 years ago when one of the middle TN dealers got a hold of a bunch of Sig P229's in .40 where one of the Police dept's (I think Metro Nashville) were cycling out. The price was crazy low and I got up there early and got to pick one out that looked as though it had hardly been fired. Below are picts as it looked when I got it and then after I added a couple of things to it. It is my bedstand gun right beside me at night.

  12. While he should have been punished for what he did, I think the punishment in this case was entirely too severe for the crime.

  18. Just ordered my last ammo purchase for the year. S G ammo has 38 Spl 130 grain Winchester White Box practice ammo for 209.00 for 500 rounds. I purchased 2of the 500 round packages and got them for 199.99. Of course they charge tax. Shipping is free for orders over 200.00. Kinda been hard to find 38 spl on the shelf for a while now. If you do it is 69.00 + per hundred. Good deal IMO. My EDC is 357 mag but I practice with 38 special. Also start teaching with 22LR then go to 9 mm then 38 spl. Got 3 young children plus dad to introduce into the gun culture soon.

  23. Sorry for your loss. We had to put our Sadie down 6 weeks ago. There is no love like the love of a good dog. I don't think the hurt ever stops you just learn to channel it into good memories.

  24. Sorry for your loss. The great thing about pets, especially dogs is how they love unconditionally. No matter what kind of day you've had, they are always there with their tails wagging and tongues out. It can hurt as bad as losing a human family member.

  25. IMO, the powers in charge of the FBI and Police went to 9 MM so women could shoot them a little easier. Inclusion at work. Everyone noticed the 2 women who was trying to shield Trump, and one had a hard time re-holstering her 9 MM. By the way didn't do a good job of covering him on the way off the stage, IMO. One simply does not send a 5'3" woman to shield a 6'2" man. Just will not work well, did it??? Edited to add; a lot of Police, "not all", are not gun people any ways. I have chatted with officers that don't even know what they are packing or ammo they are using. Talked to one S Duputy who was, and had just been in a shootout, on I 24, with drug transporters/dealers. They had pistols and he had a 12 Gauge. Shot one and the other 3 dropped their handguns and surrendered. The perp didn't die but it was not pretty afterwards for him.

  26. There is nothing wrong with a 40 caliber. It is a little snappy, but one will never notice if you need it for emergency work. Kinda like bird hunting with a shotgun. First time I fired a 12 Ga the recoil almost knocked me down. My dad said, "Son the first time you shoot at a flying quail you will not feel the recoil." He was totally right. Same with a handgun recoil. In an extreme emergency one will not notice the recoil if one does not have a medical problem. I would purchase one of these mdl 22's if I were close by. I now have a mdl 23 in 40. I am going to Pigeon Forge on the 14th. May drive back to the "ville" to see if Harveys have any left. Great price if they are quality pistols.

  28. Pets are as much (or more) family as anything. We invite them into our lives. They share our homes, they share our joys and our pains. I’m so sorry your friend is gone. We also lost one of our older cats a few months ago to kidney failure.

  33. Cutting zip ties at gun shows is very common. Any seller will cut a tie for you to examine a gun, make a holster or whatever. Then simply put one of their own back on when you're finished. Happens all the time.

  34. I think they overestimate the power of their zip ties myself. I've seen more than one person customer cut the zip tie to let a prospective buyer inspect a gun they brought to sell. I'm sure they don't like it, but you could always bring your own zip tie to replace it, if you're worried they might kick you out.
