We ventured out today on our isolated Island and could not believe the generosity being shown. There is at least 6 places along the 25 mile road that doesn't go anywhere giving out food and water. We got some bottle water at one about a mile from our house and some staples like bread and milk etc. Tried to make a cash donation to help replenish and they said no. Everything was donated and an another truck was coming this afternoon. We then tried one the other direction in the hopes they had bulk water that we could fill our jugs for flushing and dishwashing first one had a long line so we kept going down to where we heard they brought a big tanker in, like 5th wheel semi size tanker and they filled up our jugs for us then told us we had to take a case of bottled water even though we had plenty at the moment. They said everyone that stops gets at least a case. Then to our surprise a small specialty grocery next door was not only open but had electricity. There internet connection was down so cash only. Not a problem we keep cash on hand just in case of a power outage not expecting a massive flood. So we indulged in some treats we probably would normally buy along with some fresh cold cuts, eggs and 2 of their great deli sandwiches. Then back home, pretty good outing. Found a neighbor that we had only met once sitting at the end of the driveway (we are at the top of the road so it is a good place to see about half the road). He asked if we needed anything he was apparently out check us old people to see if we needed anything. I assume he saw us leave and was waiting for us or guarding the road, because after he talked he took off. Second neighbor that has checked on us and offered to help if we need anything. Our neighbors are pretty much friendly but it isn't a let's get together neighborhood, so it is great that they are willing to offer help. Even the fellow that does our lawn work, that lives out of the isolated area, texted yesterday and today checking if we were ok and even offered to bring us food, water and gas if we need him, he is a volunteer at one of the food/water stations. There are great people out there.10 points

I got family in Ashville without power right now one without water because they need electricity to pump their well. Luckily one of them is a prepper so they have plenty of water stored as well as some solar panels. Prayers for all involved!5 points

That's why the TNG is supposed to be HERE! We have need of them HERE! Our people are missing, our people are suffering, our people need assistance to regain self-reliance and increased security. Especially since the FedGov imported hundreds of thousands of CRIMINALS into our borders! Biden/Harris are a plague on our land. This angers me to no end!5 points

It's a big difference in being a UK conservative and a US conservative. Most people that would be called a "conservative" in the UK would still be considered quite liberal here in the US.2 points

Typically inside the bag. Yes they’re sealed - but it’s not uncommon to see some leakage over time when you’re talking long term storage. It also helps with the fact that often we seal in bigger than single meal quantities - and we need something to help with what’s left when we roll it back down.1 point

For me it is not necessarily sentimental. Like many when they I was younger and less established I bought guns when I had money, sold them when I did not. I went through a round of sell off when I was out of work and going back to school to start a second career. I do not "regret" selling guns at that time because it was the right thing to do for self, family, and future but I "regret" being in the position that made that a necessity. Now that time is behind me so I have replaced some of those most enjoyed but sold off items with duplicates or similar items. I will never get back all of the $79 SKS rifles, the $49 and $59 Mosin Nagants bolt actions, and a few other dirt cheap items I purchased back in the heyday of surplus but I can buy a few of them back. Just costs a fair bit more now.1 point

Don’t forget to add an oxygen absorber if you’re planning on long term storage.1 point

This tune points to a different tragedy in a different time and place, but it certainly captures the tone of how some people feel in Helene's aftermath. I've been humming it for the last few days so I thought I'd share it with no offense in mind.1 point

I think $80 is extremely reasonable, you cannot find these lights for less than $100 anywhere.1 point

For my money the Magbak classic case is the best phone case ever invented. Like many things - it excels when you get the whole system squared away. It's a great case by itself. The integrated magnets means you can stick your phone to anything ferro-based. It's surprisingly handy in the gym and in the kitchen. It ships with tiny magnetic strips that will let you stick it about anywhere - so this works great in the car. I also use the wallet that's perfect for holding about 3-4 cards and a little cash. https://magbak.com/products/magbak-for-iphone-16-series?variant=41908780367953 It's a bit more than the generic Amazon case - but I think it's worth it.1 point

depending on which version of iPad youre looking to tote around I would suggest the Patagonia Atom Sling. I have one loaded down with EDC stuff and some med supplies and it goes with me everywhere. Small enough that you don't really notice it on your back but enough capacity to make it beneficial. Also not overly "tactical" looking. If you were into bag carry you could easily slip a smaller pistol in there inside a holster. You can easily swing it around front and have it ready to go.1 point

I had a PD when they first came out. I like it so much I had it customized with a commander hammer (gunsmith had to make one), polished feed ramp and had the ejection port relieved. Really wish I still had that one.1 point

That Bersa Thunder you sold me is a favorite carry, @tacops. Together with the Bersa 9mm Ultra Compact, they are super dependable, and I'll probably never sell them even if I could get more than a few hundred for the pair.1 point

Trump isn't the establishment, and is wanting to get scale back government power and regulation, he's not the typical republican party. Unless Jesus himself is on the ballot, you'll always be voting for "the lesser of two evils". I will agree that more local elections do matter a whole lot, federal elections are also very important. Are you ready to loose your rights to at least the 1st, 2nd, and 5th amendments? That's what the Democrats are aiming for, and if they pack the court like they say they will be able to accomplish it. Not to mention turning this country into the 3rd world by uncontrolled immigration. That's what you get by "throwing you vote away". Now the argument could be made that we would be better off to go ahead and get it over with (civil war) to get this country back on track, but to think you can vote 3rd party or independent to "vote your conscience" and actually accomplish good is naive. Yes, God is in control, and he can get this country back on track if he wishes, but he is also content to sit back and watch us destroy ourselves and give us exactly what we deserve. Just look in the Bible at what he did to his own chosen people, he allowed them to be destroyed as a nation.1 point

On the subject of .32s, I’ve always had a soft spot for them. There are plenty of better options these days - but it wasn’t so many years ago that there weren’t. I had a friend kill a hog with a .32ACP Seacamp. It wasn’t a giant - maybe 125lbs. We were ready with the rifles - but dang if it didn’t drop it after about 5 steps.1 point

I'll echo the others that have mentioned Taurus. I used to be 100% a Taurus hater. I though they have upped their game recently and I would consider them to be one of the best values out their right now. My TX22 is my favorite plinker out of the half dozen or so 22 pistols I own. I much prefer it over a couple of Ruger Mark series pistols I own, and others. I bought a Tracker in 44 mag several months ago and have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. At half the price of a comparable S&W if you are buying it to use there is literally no advantage in buying a Smith. Sure the Smith will retain it's value better, but I bought this one to drag through the woods. Heck, slightly related to this topic, I've made a shift in recent years on considerations for woods guns. What used to be a go to say a Marlin 30-30, is now a high dollar gun that I don't want to beat up.1 point

Gun owners vote more often than non-gun owners. Read more here: https://www.factcheck.org/2024/05/trumps-wrong-gun-owners-more-likely-to-vote/ Excerpt: “Since 1996, the gap between gun owners’ and nonowners’ reported vote is about 11 percent,” Joslyn wrote in his book, which covers federal elections up to 2016. “Turnout among gun owners has increased since 1972 and peaked in 2004 and 2008 at 79 percent. In contrast, turnout declined among nonowners from a high in 1972 of 70 percent to a low of 64 percent in 1996 and 2016.” To me the issue is if ALL gun owners voted "pro-gun" at each election, we could make the difference in a lot of tight races. But overcoming apathy and the mindset of those that think voting doesn't matter is an uphill climb.1 point

Let's see, right off the top of my head: Bersa Thunder .380 - I have several and have yet to be disappointed. Taurus revolvers in .22,.38 and .357 - I have had several over the years with never a problem and they were all fine shooters. I still have several in .38 and one Taurus Tracker 6" .22 that is more fun than a drunk squirrel. PSA Dagger Compact - Relatively new to the market it is a "Glock 19 Knock Off" by some folks descriptions. I like it far better than the Glock and put about 300 rounds through it last Sunday adorned with a Vortex Venom and it ran like Grannies sewing machine. I think it is one of the best "Bangs for the Buck" on the market as far as compact 9mm.1 point
