When I first started carrying I was a proponent of open carry for all of the reasons your friends have mentioned. The longer I carried, and the more experience I gained with firearms the less desire I had to open carry. The only benefit of being allowed to open carry at this point is if at the end of the day of range Larping I just want to get home, I can just get in the car and go and not worry about it if I have to stop and get gas or something along the way. Otherwise, there is no benefit to advertising that I have a firearm on me . my view at this point boils down to this. Should you have the right to open carry, yes. Should you open carry, no.5 points

I see open carry from time to time, and honestly, I wish those folks would conceal. We all know that LOTS of people are uncomfortable seeing a sidearm strapped to a hip. My preference is concealed for few reasons: I don't want to call undue attention to myself. I don't want to cause worry to others. I don't like the idea of being the first target if some nutcase decides to start shooting inside a store that I'm visiting. I carry unconcealed when I'm walking in the woods and often on my own property. But in every other circumstance I want to be as discrete as possible. I suspect that a sizeable proportion of those who carry openly do so just because they can, not because it fulfills a necessary purpose.4 points

That would be my assumption as well. Based off of use over the years I'd say it had the following mods: Race hammer - that is pretty clear from the pic Reduced weight hammer spring Reduced weight firing pin spring Extended firing pin Thin aluminum grips. As Ammo stated above those trigger pull weights are much better than stock. You can probably reach out to CGW and get details on what they actually did. The 75 compact you have is the steel frame version that has manual safety where the 75D/PCR and the P01 are both aluminum frames and have decockers, the difference being a pic rail on. the P01. There are a couple of variations on these configurations but they are pretty rare and don't pop up very often.3 points

I’ve got a little secret for y’all…ammo lasts for decades if not longer. Doesn’t matter what it looks like on the outside unless it is obviously corroded.3 points

I think open carry is dumb and FAR too often the only people I see open carrying have some sorry, poor excuse for a holster and usually a cheaper handgun to go with it - all which tells me they are probably new, not very trained and/or experienced in actual practice/training. I saw one person at a family event open carrying a LCP, seriously!? Also, it screams "look at me, I have a gun, this means I'm xxxx". Plus if a situation comes up where you need a firearm, they have possibly already given away one their best tools - the element of surprise. If I was a bad guy going to rob or shoot up a place and saw someone open carrying, I'd just off them first then start the mayhem. And another thing, it probably makes anti-gun people more nervous and fearful for no real gain. Better discussion in my opinion, why would someone open carry? I'll give them comfort, but throw a button up or vest over it you got your comfort and concealment.2 points

Mandated slides is fine but if the person teaching the class is unable to accurately convey that information or answer questions, you could leave in worse shape than you went in. And since there is a range component, as always, find a reputable instructor. There are others in the area but Tiff and Aq at Citizens Safety Academy in Murfreesboro are top notch.2 points

I have a CZ 75 Compact as well and it is a DA/SA with a manual locked and cocked safety. The decocker is part of the D PCR Compact model I believe.2 points

You need to attend a class at Citizens Safety Academy in Murfreesboro. Aqil Qadir and Tiffany Johnson are some of the best people in the industry, not just in TN, but nationally. EHCP requires no maintenance other than renewal every three years, and it doesn't affect your driver's license. Getting the permit so you can carry in other states is an excellent reason to have one. AD CLOSED; GUN HAS A NEW LOVING HOME I need to find a loving home for this SIG P210 Standard; the US-made version of the original P210. This has fixed sights and a reasonable-size grip, unlike the P210 Target, which adjustable sights and what I (and many others) consider an overly large target grip. This gun handles extremely well and is a great shooter. I'm the original owner of this gun and it's been shot less than 200 times. Comes with four OEM SIG magazines. As you can see, it's unblemished and in outstanding condition. $1200 to a Tennessee resident legally able to purchase handguns. I live in Chattanooga but will drive a reasonable distance for a sale. Trade possibilities: I'm looking for a Springfield EMP or other Commander-length (4 to 4.25 inches) 1911 9mm, also a Rem 870 in 12 or 20 gauge. Other possibilities considered, but no plastic guns or ARs (I have enough already). Thanks for looking, Whisper1 point

$700 Sale or Trade Value / CZ75 Compact / 9mm / No Rail / CZ Custom trigger / CZ Custom aluminum thin grips / 3 dot white sites / 4 magazines / 1 unknown brand plastic holster and one Fobus (I think) This is one of a couple of pistols I purchased from member Steelharp (may he rest in peace). It has sat in my collection for many years because I really wanted it and it's a phenomenal shooter, but I just don't like the way it fits my hand. Per Steelharp this CZ75 was a double action model that he sent to CZ Custom to have a single action trigger / safety / hammer installed and CZ Custom aluminum thin grips. (See edit) There is an odd blemish on one side that I've circled in red. Trades: While there are so many things I'd rather trade for, I want / need to change my work pistol. I am primarily looking for a S&W M&P45 compact 2.0 (thumb safety preferred), but would also consider a S&W M&P9 2.0 full size (4.25") optic ready (thumb safety also preferred). I am willing to trade up or down depending on accessories (lights, mags, optics, ect...). My current schedule is evenings so I likely won't be able to respond until the following day.1 point

Howdy folks, I actually joined this site over a year ago and then completely forgot that I did. I moved here 2+ years ago from Washington state. After spending 20+ years fighting the good fight for the 2a in WA, my wife and I threw in the towel and headed east. We still had plenty of fight left in us, but it became pretty apparent that we were in the minority. I'm a C&R collector with a penchant for .32ACP pocket pistols, British/Commonwealth firearms, and inert ordnance. I also enjoy long range rifle shooting and 3-gun. I'm a member of the Tennessee Military Collectors Association and the Ohio Valley Military Society. Outside of that I like offroading, fishing, BBQing, and weird microelectronics projects. I joke that I'm a high-tech redneck. Just happy to be here1 point

Most all the valid reasons not to open carry have already been made. I'm a believer in being the Gray Man. Blend into the background and don't stand out at all. Be completely un-noticeable. As a friend of mine once said "The bad guy should never realize that you're armed until the second bullet hits him in the chest."1 point

The main reason I don't open carry is that I want it to be a surprise in the event that I need to draw it. About the only time I'll open carry is when I'm hiking. Hiking with an IWB holster on is unpleasant. Additionally nobody really looks at you twice when you've got a piece on your hip out in the woods.1 point

Went out to my back yard and fired some practice rounds off this morning. Just purchased some of the Winchester 147 Gr + P Defense ammo, from SG Ammo, and wanted to make sure my Ruger Max 9 and my SW M P 9C 2.0 would fire them without any problems. The new ammo looks just like the Win PDX 1 147 Gr + P but has a little different design bullet in it. Both Pistols fires the PDX well, however better safe than sorry when it comes to changes in ammo in carry handguns. Also took my old revolver and burned the 7 rounds in it also. That carry ammo was about 6 months old so time to replace it. I was 100% with all 3 handguns, in the hit thingie, on a 6" steel target at 7 yards. I always paint the target between magazines or cylinders of firing to make sure on hit ratio. Cost a lot of money, now a days, to fire off much S D ammo. Some of this (357 Mag) was over 1.00 per round. Old man can't stand much of that! Edited to add; My old hand is kinda aching, from all the 357 and 9 MM + P. Got a little sore during the firing. First time I have noticed that in a while.1 point

I think Tiffany and Aqil both are top notch. However, I think Royal Range has RangeMaster grads as instructors as well. Done correctly, the specified State curriculum has to be followed but a good instructor helps. This will generally consume the 8 hrs as dictated. I think the state also has a $30 rebate program. I highly recommend the training and then proceed with additional training.1 point

This was certainly a lot to take in and analyze. While I'm sure a lot of statements need to be verified, enough of what was explained seems to fill in the pieces of what we can already observe in the world (in a way that is more than likely rather accurate). Also, I think it provides some context regarding the pushes we see happening in the U.S., especially related to personal freedoms (including firearms) and information. Here is what was on my mind after the interview: The thing about using all manners of coercion against others, under the justification of "for the good of the country" or "to further/secure our interests", is that eventually this mindset will cause a government to redirect these efforts inward. Becoming so drunk with greed and power that, in the end, it will attack its own people with the same measures marketed as necessities for "national security", "public safety", or "quality of life". Many countries have seen this before and I think the U.S. is seeing it now. The fabric of lies and opaque measures designed to cast an illusion for the people - that cloaks any reason to look around and question - is tearing. Because the government allows or is a direct party to harms against the people, it becomes increasingly fearful about losing stability; possibly to the point of internal conflict. Using the bag of "dirty tricks" in an attempt to regain control can become the catalyst for rebellion. However, if the government can successfully control the information space and remove private weapon ownership, it greatly lessens both the chance and duration of any potential uprising. Again, "stability" and "peace" through coercion. Another obvious side of this gets into ethics, etc. and that can be saved for another day (brain needs a break).1 point

Every 6 months is my choice. I like to get the practice and experience the feel, often, of the S D ammo recoil. Big difference in practice and S D ammo recoil, for sure + P ammo. Didn't notice the hand hurting thing before like I did this time. I know my ammo is very protected in storage, but I clean and lube my guns often so don't want to take the chance of oil contamination. I have read where it takes oil over a year, but I take no chances. I keep all my ammo, except for what is in my EDC's, in military ammo cans and they are stored inside one of my closets. My house is climate controlled so minimal chance of big climate swings. Keep the house at 74 summer and 72 winter. John Farnum put out a paper on purchasing ammo. He predicts a big ammo drought coming also. He says it will be a component problem on the horizon. Mentions 2 components that will be almost extinct for our civilian ammo supply. Also the Israeli and Russin/Ukraine wars are sucking up supplies. Said one of the major ammo company leaders told/warned him. Better lay in a good supply guys.1 point

I would imagine so. Mine is bone stock so naturally I haven't had it serviced beyond just a normal field strip cleaning. I don't have a trigger weight measuring tool so I'm going to have to use what's documented online. According to guntoters website it states 5lbs. 4.3oz single action and 11lbs. 0.7oz double action. I would imagine that is correct because the double action is quite the pull.1 point

I have guns of higher quality and a significantly higher price tag but my PM9 has the most rounds through it and has never jammed, stove piped or failed to feed/cycle. It’s still one of the best form factors and easily concealed in a variety of ways which is helpful with four seasons. I even used my PM9 to qualify for my pistol instructor certification and outshot many participants with longer barrels and optics. This is a killer price for one of the most underrated firearms in the industry…some people buy them and don’t do the break-in steps or rack the slide 200 times…mine has more than a thousand rounds through it without a single failure.1 point

Just curious if this is really SAO? The trigger doesn't look like one of the usual SAO triggers and the CGW paperwork lists both a DA and SA pull weight. Great gun either way, these are great shooting for the size!1 point

If you're patient, Kel-Tec sometimes does rebates. I got one last year (G19 mag well) from Palmetto State for 379.99 plus a $100 rebate from Kel-Tec so $280. With tax, shipping, and transfer/TICS I ended up all in out the door for $364.81.1 point
