  1. I too am concerned my wife wouldnt be able to clear a jam. So she carries a Smith 317 8 shot 22 revolver. I know, I know folks will say its only a 22. Its almost all aluminum and weighs nothing. 3" barrel, and I put some smooth wood grips on it so it doesnt snag. But she feels comfortable carrying it. And who am I to argue with her-lol

  2. I've told the story many times about my wife's arthritis in her hands. She finally settled on a 2" S&W Model 30 in .32 S&W Long. She could shoot it very well and the recoil didn't hurt her hands. If you were to buy something in .327 Fed Magnum, she could shoot .32 S&W Long, .32 H&R Magnum or .327 Federal Magnum all out of the same gun. She could try the various cartridges and settle on whichever one she could shoot and handle the best. I really think that .32s are highly under rated.

  3. Things have gotten so weird...AOC had a coherent and logical question in relation to ARs and the Trump assassination attempt for the Secret Service director this morning.

  4. This. My wife had the same concerns. The rental .38 snubby we tried was the single worst pistol I've ever shot. She said my .45 compact was easier to shoot, and settled on a Shield 9.

  5. I can see the "used in most mass shootings" part as irksome, but it didn't tint the tone of the question in any kind of gun grabbing way. She straight up acknowledged the popularity of ARs and asked why the secret service isn't pushing their security perimeter to account for the range of the weapon. The secret service should have to answer to that.

  6. I have to wonder who told her to say that, because I don't believe she has enough gun sense to know if the range was 600 inches or 600 miles.

  7. SOLD SOLD SOLD I have a like new condition shadow 2 compact I’m looking to sell or trade. I picked it up because of the metal frame but have come to the realization that I don’t need this much gun. So I’m hoping to trade for another compact metal frame 9mm plus cash. Mounted on it now is a 1.0 MOA dot trijicon SRO also in like new condition. I also have a black arch holsters holster and mag carrier I’ll throw in asking $1500 with the dot $1050 without.

  8. A .38 Special snubnose of some variety might actually be an option if you used wadcutters. Very low recoil and surprisingly effective.

  9. yeah i don't want to give her too much credit. However, it's good to hear her say the AR15 is "one of the most popular semi-automatic weapons in the United States". That's a great admission.

  11. Wife wants to carry, but doesn't trust that she would know how to clear a jam on a semi-auto and wants a revolver. At the same time, she is going to need a smaller caliber due to her strength. Can someone recommend a small caliber revolver? Thanks.

  15. 38/357 is great and you might as well start looking for the 44 magnum as well.

  16. We bought a Ruger LCR in .357 mag for my 5 foot nothing, 100 pound wife. She just didn't have the hand-strength to rack the slide on a semi, but she's well-able to point and shoot the revolver. We do NOT load it with .357 ammo, though, instead going with 38 SPL. The extra weight of the .357 revolver tames the felt recoil when shooting .38 SPL, and she handles it just fine. Now, she's not going to practice dumping a cylinder and using a speed-loader, but she can put six round on-target without any fuss.

  17. Amen! If she's carrying a gun that's the biggest hurdle already defeated.

  18. I had heard or read days ago that a local SWAT guy missed Crooks before the SS sniper dispatched him. That said, I still hear what I believe are four different guns. The first three shots sound distinctly different from 4-8, especially on videos taken by those who were close to Crooks. Shot nine sounds like maybe a suppressed rifle and could be the SWAT miss. Then several seconds later, the last shot (from SS). I don’t get off on conspiracy theories, but something doesn’t add up. I would like an exact count on how much brass was found with Crooks. That should be very easy to answer.

  19. HP expansion in .32 Long is pretty much non-existent. Just ain't enough velocity for reliable expansion. The load we settled on was the Mag-Tech 98gr SJHP. Good velocity, very accurate and decent penetration for a .32 Long.

  21. I'm gonna break ranks and say that you are thinking correctly for the answer for your wife. I went through this very thing with my wife and I also tried to steer her toward a semi-auto. We tried the Shield, the XDs and the Ruger LCP. She is not a "gun person" but did take some lessons with all of these. The problem is that while we enjoy handling semi's and dropping mags and clearing jams, etc. some do not and factually, most women are in that group. Even the basic "racking of the slide" does not come natural and easy for most women. I am not saying all but most. So, in a moment of fear or excitement it is not a good time to experiment with this question when her life hangs in the balance. So, we tried several revolvers and she ended up with, and still carries, the Ruger SP101. This revolver is a bit heavy, but it's mass is a friend when firing and shooting .38 caliber rounds with a very mild recoil. It is crazy reliable and has a buttery smooth trigger. Semi's do give more rounds but while stylish, must be handled with frequency to be comfortable and reliable. As Clint Eastwood said as "Dirty Harry"...."That's a helluva price to pay for being stylish."

  23. I know it’s not the question that you asked, but small revolvers suitable for carry, even in smaller calibers, are generally awful to actually shoot and use. If I may offer a bit of a recommendation outside of your actual ask, maybe have her take a firearms familiarization class from a local range where she gets to try and use several different handguns. The benefit may be twofold in that she may discover more confidence with a semi automatic pistol, but also may help discover what will actually work for her.

  24. It's awesome to have friends to shoot with, but it's even better to create your own. My 9 yr old grandson clearly favors head shots. Even at only 50 ft, I think he's doing pretty good for his age, especially with open sights. If he keeps this up, he'll be my 1st round draft pick in the zombie apocalypse draft. He shot a mix of offhand and with a rest. My dad was a hunter, so he taught me to use a rest whenever you can. I think that's solid advice for hunting, but I want my grandson to be more well-rounded. This is his favorite firearm, a Rossi Bravo lever action .22lr that we bought from a forum member last year. He might actually love shooting even more than me, LOL. We really enjoy the TWRA range, SRHEC, on Percy Priest lake. I think next time I'll see how he handles 50 yards with and without a scope.

  28. My truck was full of building materials that needed to go to my daughter's house before that first attack. The truck has sat long enough that the battery is dead. I got my granddaughter to give it a boost. She has no clue so I did the work, not bad just warm. She drove, she's short, hard to see the road. The oldest son met us there, some material was stacked in the carport to be used soon and the rest in the storage building. Took him about 20 minutes while I watched. Dang, wish I could help. We swapped to the car at home and headed to Kroger. The 4 that helped me that day were working and I had a chat with each. 2 of 6 employees that I like to chat with were there too. So the 3 bag $90 trip was long. Instead of walking with a cart I got a scooter. I watched a zoom auction that's in Senatobia, MS last night. Dang, everything sold close, at or over retail, I bought nothing. Example: Grainger brand vaseline, small jar 2/$3, walmart brand $1. I'll watch his dealer's sale tomorrow, if I don't buy anything I'm done with them. I didn't take a nap so I started nodding near the end. Went to bed at 9:10 pm, up at 2 am hungry. We keep boiled eggs in the fridge, never know when we'll need 1 or a few. I had 2 and a small drink of 7-up. Back to bed at 2:45 am. I woke at 8:20 am. Best night's sleep since I returned home. I found out today my beekeeper, 81 year years old is retiring/ closing business in 30 days. I buy 5 to 6 gallons per year from him, no sugar used by me. Honey only since 2012. He just went up to $50 per gallon when I bought my last, about half gallon left. Need to go soon and get a bulk order. Looking at facebook and marketplace honey is double if not more most places I see it, plus the extra miles to get it. I found a cold tonic years ago and followed the recipe, too much, If I get a cold now a fresh batch is made at half recipe and some gets thrown out. 2 to 4 doses the first day and the cold is gone. No need for a doctor's visit or over the counter drugs.

  30. Looking to sell or trade my BCM 14.5" P&W Upper w/ BCM BCG. I have roughly (2) 20 round mags through it to initially sight and shoot the gun when I bought it 9ish months ago. Looking to sell for $600 cash or... trade for an Eotech EXPS 3-0 or Aimpoint T2. Also willing to look at RMR 06's as well if there's a little cash involved. I have a BCM Gunfighter Stock (never used) if anyone wants to make an offer. MBUS Magpul Pro Offset Iron Sights and BCM Gunfighter Charging Handle in images not included w/ upper but open to trades or offers for those as well. PM if interested.

  34. I hear ya! My first gun 40 years ago was an Ithaca Model 66 20 gauge. I guess it wasn’t technically a “lever action”, it was more “lever-activated break-open” for the single shot. Later on, I was able to pick up a 12 gauge as well. Now I need to find the 410 . While obviously not in the same category as the rifles, it started my love of the levers.
