  1. Let’s imagine I’m lying around doing nothing, and you have some limbs in your yard that needs cleaning up. If I’m willing to do that for $5 an hour, and you’re willing to pay that to have it done, I don’t see where that should be any concern to the government. A minimum wage job is a good stepping stone into the workforce for teenagers, or a good way for a retiree to get out and socialize a bit. If a person spends 40 years of their life manning the grill at McDonald’s, they’ve screwed up somewhere along the way. FDR was a big government progressive commie.

  2. FDR was a commie and he filled the federal bureaucracy with like-minded comrades. All of that is immaterial to the point that I was making regarding the facts around the creation of the federal minimum wage. I’m quite familiar with the arguments surrounding the concept of a minimum wage. I wasn’t making any sort of argument for or against what a minimum wage should be, should provide, or even if it should exist. I’ll be honest, I’m not even really interested in engaging in that debate at the moment for the simple reason that I have fairly conflicted feelings about the whole matter. It is difficult in that I’ve long been of a broadly and even at times radically libertarian economic worldview. At the same time I am cognizant of the reality of our oligarchic crony capitalist system in which free markets are truly more of a myth than a reality. How things should work and how they actually do work are diametrically opposed, and I don’t know a good way to fix it. At least not in a way that doesn’t involve great risk of losing what little window dressing of liberty we have left.

  3. I think of minimum wage and a living wage as 2 different things. Minimum wage is for those with no skills or experience, such as high school kids getting their first job. Once they gain some skills and experience, their value should increase to earn a living wage. I know it doesn't work that way, but it should.

  4. First off, I had and still have no idea how to price this gun. It was part of a trade. It is a complete Jagerworks G34 built for competition. Stipled frame, extended controls, magwell, tuned trigger, fiber optic front sight with black in rear. I don’t know what it takes to shoot competitively but for me this would work. It genuinely has the best feeling trigger that I have felt in a Glock pistol. Really nice Jagerworks slide. I ran a mag through it yesterday and had to talk myself into not keeping it. Fantastic pistol. Will come with 3-17rnd Glock magazines, 3-17rnd Magpul Pmags, Glock case etc. I think 750.00 is more than fair but open to reasonable offers. Trades considered are 9mm Glocks in MOS form. Optic ready p320 and p365. ARs RIFLES not pistols, .223/5.56. 308 ARs, 5.56/.223 ammo, 7.62x51/.308 ammo. Those are my preference but open to offers. East Tennessee meetings.

  6. SOLD Here's a gun that takes a little explaining. The frame is a Colt Police Positive Special in .38 Special, with a serial number of 178xxx, which dates it to 1921. But the Police Positive Special was made only with 4-, 5-, or 6-inch barrels. This gun has a 2-inch barrel stamped "Detective Spec." The Detective Special didn't hit the market until 1927, so apparently a previous owner replaced the original barrel with at Detective Special barrel to make himself a Police Positive Special snubnose. It's been refinished -- maybe when it was rebarreled, because the wear on the frame and barrel don't look much different. But there's nothing for certain about the history of this gun except that the Detective Special barrel wasn't on it when it left the Colt factory. The grips are not original either, so this gun doesn't have any value as a collector's piece...but if you want a tiny Colt 6-shot .38 Special, it will work just fine. $400 to a TN resident legally able to purchase handguns. I live in Chattanooga but can travel a bit if needed. Thanks for looking, Whisper

  8. Thanks for posting this. On my grandmas deathbed I picked her brain. I asked who her favorite president was. No hesitation she said FDR. People deserve a living wage. Not minimum. Im in my late thirties. I’m fortunate where I grew up poor and was frugal all my life. Put 30% down, paid for school out of pocket. I’ve worked three jobs my whole life. My 15 year mortgage is manageable, it’s all the necessities that come with life that has skyrocketed. Health care, auto and home insurance/property taxes, pet insurance, almost everything across the board has nearly doubled for me. I carry good insurance on everything because I really like my home and I’m not trying to lose it over an act of god. I now need to make $8k post tax just to have the qualifications to keep a roof over my head and a paid off beater Honda accord to earn money. I shop around every 6 months for insurance. Groceries is another issue. I was in such a better spot financially pre-covid… my firearm hobby is half of what it used to be because I’m still worried about inflation. I bartend on the side. Always will. I’ve had 3, correct 3 people reach out to me to ask me for work. They all have doctorates or 5 year degrees. They’re all my age. I feel fortunate that I have no debt and buy everything outright. I can’t stress enough that it’s tough for millennials at the moment. Sure you can blame DoorDash, and subscription services and avocado toast. That doesn’t change the fact that a dollar is worth 20% less now than it was pre covid.

  9. Like Skyhunter, "happy Memorial Day" doesn't sit well with me. I tend to wish people "a peaceful Memorial Day" - usually in parting, not as a greeting.

  11. I understand. It has been my experience, however, that if you find a problem that needs fixing, government usually isn’t your best tool to fix it. I’d be curious how many here still make minimum wage. Hell, I’m not sure I know anybody who makes minimum wage. I still have a kid in college, and he makes at least $15 just doing odd jobs. A lot of folks pay him $20 or better. These are not jobs that require skill, knowledge, or tools. Just show up and follow instruction.

  13. You are 100% right about FDR. I don't care what he had to say, minimum wage is not a living wage. It's the wage at which zero skill workers and zero skill jobs meet. God knows the trash needs taking out and floors need sweeping at McDonalds. However, anyone who thinks they should be able to afford a car note, groceries, cell phone bills, and rent when that's all you bring to the table is destined to learn hard life lessons.

  15. My Bride recently asked me what the proper greeting for Memorial Day was. She said that "since you're a Vet, You should know!" I have always rendered the proper greeting for the time of day - i.e. Good Morning or Good Afternoon. Since it is a solemn day for remembrance - IMO - therefore the "Happy" prefix isn't applicable. In the past I have gently reminded those that greeted me with "Happy Memorial Day", that this day is a day of remembrance for those that paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. Please honor their memory and sacrifice. To me, that's what it's all about. So, I'll say a prayer of thanks to those that have fallen and raise a glass in their memory. 'nuff said. WYT-P Skyhunter

  18. I’d ask why a $1400 pistol needs to be basically rebuilt as it sounds. I’m also of the opinion that if you’re going to dump that kind of money to make all those modifications to a firearm then you’re also going to need to realize that the sum does not equal the whole. In other words, don’t expect to recoup the cost you put into it unless you find the perfect buyer. Do you like this pistol that has been modified to someone else’s specifications? That’s really all that matters.

  22. It got the grinder treatment But then I gussied it up a bit. I didn't like the unfinished edge. I tell you what though, creating a wire edge on a sheet steel fender is not as easy as the first 3 minutes I watched, of a 40 minute YouTube tutorial, led me to believe. Especially when the only welding equipment available is the 'Easy Bake Oven' of MiG sets...... I've also re-wired the back end for the new light setup & the fender is just sitting letting the paint cure. I'll have her back together tomorrow. Oh... painted the rear wheel & ditched the chrome pulley and inner primary covers. Painted the shift linkage, rear master cylinder cover, horn & coil cover, transmission case & a couple of other trim bits that do, actually, fill the gaps nicely but we're waaaaay to shiny. Installed the new, shorter clutch cable, fixed the front master cylinder, gave her some new rear pads (which were down to the paint....) & modified the kickstand to better suit its new, squatted, stance. Hell of a good weekend so far!

  24. I bought about 6000 rounds of Federal 9bple about 20 years ago at about 15 cents per round it’s always ran well in my CZs and PCCs and my 1911. I also have a bunch of Winchester 147 grain SXT’s that I run in my polymer guns. The SXTs don’t run well in my AKV ( kicks up on the feed ramp). But the 9bple runs like a sewing machine in it.

  25. Because $1400 is cheap for a 2011 and Springfield throws a bunch of MIM part in it. I have one with EGW/Red Dirt/Dawson guts and I've been very happy with it. OP, any idea what kind of aluminum grip he has? Those are usually $500-600.

  29. Been there, done that. Once I was drowning in credit card debt. Its especially hard on young people trying to get themselves established in this world. The interest charges will eat you up. But many do it to themselves. They want what they want and they want it right now! I think all of us have had to stand in a checkout line waiting while the person in front of us tries multiple credit cards to make their purchase. Or worse are the people who buy little items such as one soft drink or fast food and pay with a credit card. That sort of thing adds up real quick. I got myself out of credit card debt some 30 years ago. Today I have one credit card and its used primarily for internet purchases. I also pay off the balance every month. For most everyday items, I pay cash. If I don't have enough cash, I just don't buy it.

  30. If there truly were that many idiots running around causing problems for everyone simply because they lacked mandatory firearms training than we would certainly be hearing about it and the TN legislators would certainly be trying to saddle us with it. I’m 100% in agreement that responsible gun owners should get training, just like I think everyone should stay out of debt, workout most days, and quit drinking, but I certainly don’t think any of that should be mandated. It’s a very slippery slope whenever we encourage the Govt to mandate something in the public “best interest” as they get a taste for it and don’t know where to stop.
