  1. Safe queen sale. Due to unforeseen circumstances in my life, I am letting go a few items, some of which I'll likely never get back. All items are accurately described and I believe priced fairly. I am not looking for any trades. This is a cash only transaction, face to face in the Columbia, Tennessee area. You must be legal to purchase these items, and I will require and bill of sale with ID. 2. SOLD Here's a gun that takes a little explaining. The frame is a Colt Police Positive Special in .38 Special, with a serial number of 178xxx, which dates it to 1921. But the Police Positive Special was made only with 4-, 5-, or 6-inch barrels. This gun has a 2-inch barrel stamped "Detective Spec." The Detective Special didn't hit the market until 1927, so apparently a previous owner replaced the original barrel with at Detective Special barrel to make himself a Police Positive Special snubnose. It's been refinished -- maybe when it was rebarreled, because the wear on the frame and barrel don't look much different. But there's nothing for certain about the history of this gun except that the Detective Special barrel wasn't on it when it left the Colt factory. The grips are not original either, so this gun doesn't have any value as a collector's piece...but if you want a tiny Colt 6-shot .38 Special, it will work just fine. $400 to a TN resident legally able to purchase handguns. I live in Chattanooga but can travel a bit if needed. Thanks for looking, Whisper

  5. SOLD To be fair, I hunted for years with 65lb recurves & longbows. By the time I'd hauled the string back to my actual draw length of 30¾" they were generally around 70ish anyway. Honestly, I quit traditional because I got sick of hurting & losing animals. It goes against everything I believe in. I lost 8 out of the 10 deer I shot. I thought a sight & more efficient bow would solve the issue. Turns out that my problem is one of 'observed perspective' If I'm up a tree & shoot, when I get down again, I have literally no idea where the critter was stood when I shot. I ever went as far as taking compass bearings & eventually cellphone photos to try & find my shot spot. Unfortunately, from there, my brain can't process where the deer ran to be able to start looking for blood. It was unbelievably frustrating. So I said "Eff it" & just stick to muzzleloaders & rifles now & I keep my ass firmly planted on the floor! Haven't lost one since.

  6. Thought of Aqil Qudar but was concerned about the drive..but you're right it would be worth it. Aquil is a Tom Givens/RangeMaster instructor and really has a passion for new shooters. http://www.citizenssafety.com

  7. I'll second this. I would also say that the drive to Murfreesboro for classes with Aq and crew at Citizens Safety Academy is more than worth it.

  11. My Bride recently asked me what the proper greeting for Memorial Day was. She said that "since you're a Vet, You should know!" I have always rendered the proper greeting for the time of day - i.e. Good Morning or Good Afternoon. Since it is a solemn day for remembrance - IMO - therefore the "Happy" prefix isn't applicable. In the past I have gently reminded those that greeted me with "Happy Memorial Day", that this day is a day of remembrance for those that paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. Please honor their memory and sacrifice. To me, that's what it's all about. So, I'll say a prayer of thanks to those that have fallen and raise a glass in their memory. 'nuff said. WYT-P Skyhunter

  12. Thanks for posting this. On my grandmas deathbed I picked her brain. I asked who her favorite president was. No hesitation she said FDR. People deserve a living wage. Not minimum. Im in my late thirties. I’m fortunate where I grew up poor and was frugal all my life. Put 30% down, paid for school out of pocket. I’ve worked three jobs my whole life. My 15 year mortgage is manageable, it’s all the necessities that come with life that has skyrocketed. Health care, auto and home insurance/property taxes, pet insurance, almost everything across the board has nearly doubled for me. I carry good insurance on everything because I really like my home and I’m not trying to lose it over an act of god. I now need to make $8k post tax just to have the qualifications to keep a roof over my head and a paid off beater Honda accord to earn money. I shop around every 6 months for insurance. Groceries is another issue. I was in such a better spot financially pre-covid… my firearm hobby is half of what it used to be because I’m still worried about inflation. I bartend on the side. Always will. I’ve had 3, correct 3 people reach out to me to ask me for work. They all have doctorates or 5 year degrees. They’re all my age. I feel fortunate that I have no debt and buy everything outright. I can’t stress enough that it’s tough for millennials at the moment. Sure you can blame DoorDash, and subscription services and avocado toast. That doesn’t change the fact that a dollar is worth 20% less now than it was pre covid.

  13. I’d ask why a $1400 pistol needs to be basically rebuilt as it sounds. I’m also of the opinion that if you’re going to dump that kind of money to make all those modifications to a firearm then you’re also going to need to realize that the sum does not equal the whole. In other words, don’t expect to recoup the cost you put into it unless you find the perfect buyer. Do you like this pistol that has been modified to someone else’s specifications? That’s really all that matters.

  21. Yeah, and a 16 year old in 1988 made what, $3.25? maybe $4/hour? Today Wal-Mart starts at $17.50/hour and Target starts at $15-24/hour. . . plus benefits. Most customer service call-center jobs start at $20+/hour and they're nearly all full-time work from home these days so opportunities to live in a lower-cost area and still have a good paying job are out there. The Internet has made the entire world available for incoming knowledge and outgoing sales. There are literally free college-level courses available 24x7. There are YouTube videos demonstrating step-by-step nearly anything a person could ever want to know how to do: changing a light bulb, how to start a business, knitting, welding, carpentry, plumbing, auto repair, how to build an airplane, photography and editing, computer coding, musical instruments, and anything else we can think of. There are so many opportunities for side hustles, and not just DoorDash/Uber, but getting a skill and making better than entry-level money doing it like coding, teaching English online, or hustling with sales. I've read somewhere that the first person to make a million dollars on eBay did it reselling golf clubs. He'd hit thrift stores, yard sales and estate sales looking for good ones and resell them on eBay. That's hustling every day to find inventory, post listings, and get shipments out. I know the first UK eBay millionaire started by selling protein supplements and mobile phone accessories from his parent's garden shed. Now he's the largest eBay seller in the UK and 6th in the world. It's not easy, but more than any other time in human history, it's possible. If I had to start over, I thank the good Lord I'd get to do it today and not in the days of classroom learning and paper book libraries, mail order catalogs, print ads, and cold telephone calls.

  23. My wife and I did the same thing before we got married... crappy apartments, sketchy roommates, cheap cars, Ramen, and hamburger helper. We were both super happy when we got our own apartment after we got married. Our first big purchase was a washer and dryer. So nice to not have to go to the laundromat. So yeah, some suffering through less than ideal life makes one appreciate it more when you can finally get decent stuff. It's about not keeping up with the Jones's and keeping your eye on the prize. That said, life is much more expensive now. I have a 16 yr old and we're in the process of figuring out a car for him. I recall my sister getting a $2000 car when she turned 16 in 1988. $2000 then is $5000 now. What you get today for $5000 is much worse than what my sister got back then. Along the same lines, if we were moving now, we wouldn't be able to afford the house we've lived in for 15 years. Housing costs are outrageous.

  24. A co-worker and I discussed this the other day. His son just finished an Engineering degree at MS State. He told him he should come back home and live with them for a couple years and save up a mountain of money before heading out on his own. In this economy and inflation, such a move could alter his financial health for the rest of his life. We both agreed that we don't understand the "when they turn 18 they are out on the street" mentality.

  32. I went to an IKEA years ago down in Atlanta. I'd heard about their amazing Swedish meatballs in their little cafeteria thing so I had to try some. They taste exactly like Swanson's TV dinner Salisbury steak out of the old aluminum trays. Too bad they didn't have any scorched mashed potatoes and the little cherry cobbler thing to go with them.
