I’ve got to disagree with you here, boss. I know a girl who went to a New Year’s Eve party in Memphis, stayed the night in a hotel there, and woke up the next morning without a car. Should she have walked from Macon County to Memphis to have prevented that?4 points

I should be able to lay a gun on the hood of my car in downtown Nashville for 3 weeks. The guy that takes it is the criminal. My car/truck should not be required to be locked. My house should not be required to be locked. A woman should not be required to dress a sertain way to prevent rape. The person that rapes, murders, or steals shouldn't be suffered.4 points

I always knew this had been going on a long time. The Bible gives an example which occurred around 600BC. 1 Samuel 13, verses 19-20 "There were no blacksmiths in the land of Israel in those days. The Philistines wouldn't allow them for fear they would make swords and spears for the Hebrews. So whenever the Israelites needed to sharpen their plowshares, picks, axes or sickles, they had to take them to a Philistine blacksmith." Verse 21 talks about the fees (or tax) assessed for sharpening these tools in order to make them functional. 1. Disarm the peasants 2. Limit the ability for peasants, through high cost fees and/or taxes, to maintain any item as personal defensive or offensive weapon 3. Make sure only those loyal to the rulers are armed .gov has been attempting to disarm us for almost 3000 years3 points

I am not offering an opinion here so back off if you don’t like what I’m about to say. Since the state basically removed all restrictions on keeping firearms in vehicles, car break-ins have skyrocketed, especially Memphis because they’ll steal the stink out of #### there, but don’t you Nashville area or anywhere else folks get too smug, it’s happening everywhere and getting worse. Fact, not opinion.3 points

a. You should be able to do/not do a lot of things but the bleeding hearts have allowed the ne'er do wells free reign. b. I have a lock box in my car for the offhand case of having to enter a building where firearms are not allowed. c. I try hard to avoid entering said buildings. Most I won't enter without a subpoena. d. With freedom comes responsibility.3 points

SAF and FPC are litigators. They fight in the courts where laws are challenged or upheld. These groups are quietly fighting hard for our rights. Most people never hear about them until they make a major case. They fly under the radar, but hit hard. GOA is what the NRA should be. They're fighting in Congress and state legislatures every day. Not as big as the NRA, but they're fighting hard for us. I, too, wish they were bigger and had more clout. TFA is our home grown pro-2nd organization. I fully support them and their efforts. The NRA has had serious problems for many years. But Wayne is gone and there are a few new reform members on the board now. However, the board is still full of the old guard sleeze bags who only care about themselves. Gonna have to see how this plays out. However, as pointed out, the NRA is the big kid on the block. Even people who have zero interest in firearms know who they are. Right now they serve as the anti's whipping boy and divert attention from the real pro-gun groups. They're our useful idiots. So let them be. I do renew my membership as needed because a loss of membership makes them look weak and the antis will try to capitalize on that. I pay my dues, but not one cent more. Just for the record, I am a member of all these groups and throw in a couple of extra bucks now and then to support the fight.3 points

Local news ran a story last night where the anti-gun group Everytown claims that according to FBI data Memphis is the #1 city for thefts of guns from vehicles. I'm not surprised. Memphis is notorious for vehicle break-ins anyway. I've been preaching for years to never leave a gun in a vehicle. This report confirms that. https://wreg.com/news/local/memphis-leading-nation-in-guns-stolen-from-cars-report/2 points

Getting away from punishing lawbreakers and becoming a more coddle-the-felons jurisdiction has made things worse in Shelby County.2 points

It shouldn’t be this way. Preventing, or at least deterring this type thing IS a reason for having a government. Since that no longer seems to be happening, what good is a government?2 points

I wouldn’t have made that trip to Memphis in the first place because I understand the high risk of waking up without the car. Thats the kind of risk assessment I’m talking about here. Did she cause her car to get stolen? No, but I hope she wasn’t surprised that it happened. https://wreg.com/news/investigations/driving-crime-more-than-22000-vehicle-thefts-in-memphis-in-2-years/ In Memphis, the risk of vehicle break in is so high as to be nearly a guarantee. So leaving a firearm in the car is tantamount to intentionally arming a criminal. When I lived in Midtown in Memphis, I had my car broken into 5 times in little over a two year period. If I left a firearm in my vehicle and it got stolen, any reasonable person would say that it was an entirely predictable outcome. This is honestly a very weird surprising take from a group of folks whom mostly carry guns because of the possibility of encountering someone who means them harm. I mean, I shouldn’t have to carry a gun everywhere I go, but I do because I’ve made an assessment of the risks and act accordingly. It’s kinda amusing since the odds of me having to use my gun are waaaaaaay lower than the odds of my car getting broken into in the Memphis metro. Folks can live in the world they imagine exists inside their mind, or they can live in the one outside their front door. I choose the latter.2 points

Screw it, I'm getting a second one and leaving the stock grips on that one, Folks the Combat Elite Python in my opinion is so good you should have two!2 points

This is a BS excuse and always has been. A criminal who breaks into a car and steals a gun is 100% responsible for their actions. That doesn’t absolve the person who engages in a behavior with a predictable outcome for their poor decision making. A woman should also be able to go get blackout drunk without the fear of being assaulted. That said, I’m going to educate my daughter on why she should never engage in that sort of behavior because a bad outcome is entirely predictable.2 points

Our Founding Fathers said our right to bear arms was given to us by our Creator and .gov couldn't infringe upon them. Our .gov servants have chipped away those rights to the point where most of the country thinks we are beholden to them. One of 2 things will happen, we'll be completely disarmed in the near future or a minority of patriots will try to take back our rights by force from a majority elected .gov.2 points

+1 to TFA and FPC. I've supported GOA in the past and would do so again. I'm also a life member of NRA but don't send them any money. If these new reformers on the board can get things cleaned up, we'll see. NRA's main purpose right now is to be the big elephant in the room taking the heat from the anti-gunners while more effective and nimble groups like FPC and GOA fly under the radar get the work done.2 points

Howdy fellers and ladies. Just wanted to see, if like normal, my opinion is on the fringe or if I may be closer to reality now. my issue is with good, hard working folks donating money to help fight the crazies from restricting things that if we really ARE following the constitution , are said NOT to be infringed. First off is the long tenured NRA. ALWAYS happens. When no one is looking, someone always gets caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Never fails. Although we expect them to operate within reason, lobby for the needs of its members, and be an honest person with upstanding integrity. We know that when anyone is paid millions to do what they would do for free, they always want more. Don’t matter what it is. EVERY single time. Not that it has finally happened to the NRA but, it seems to be the first time there was wide spread knowledge about it. To me seems like ROT. Needs to be cut completely out. ALL of it and start over. Seems as crooked as Hillary’s email server or Orange mans accounting books. Can’t be fixed needs total destruction, lessons learned and rebuilt totally if at all relevant anymore. With the likes of GOA and FPC (who are actually doing the things NRA is supposed to) why is there a need for a corrupt NRA anymore? I have failed to renew my membership for this reason. My donations have started to go to GOA and FPC. Although it’s hard to completely entrust because of the corruption seen at the NRA. I’m guessing it will be there for a while. If the GOA was able to get so many things accomplished with small group of donators, can you imagine if they had equal backing as the NRA? I honestly don’t remember the last time the NRA was relevant but kept renewing my membership because that’s what we do in my family. I guess with all the crazies, window lickers, tree huggers, and other democrats, to me our rights have become more important to defend. I would rather it be defended by honest people. Just my rant!! Am I on the fringe again? Too much truth?1 point

Ok. Another old Winchester joined the stable. I may or may not keep her. I have to “do my thing” first. Tear down, clean, likely remove old varnish someone added at some time. Once I’m done I’ll post more photos and then decide if I’m keeping her. 1907, Winchester Model 1894 in 30WCF. 26” half-round barrel with a short mag-tube. Crescent butt plate. Some bluing left, much turned to a patina. Looks to possibly be a thin layer of varnish on the receiver (it will be removed if it’s there). Early DW King rear sight (likely not original but close to period). Update.. what I thought was varnish on the receiver is just a really light tan patina. Almost looks like old case coloring, but from what I know, there were very few case colored 1894 rifles. I will say this one is quite clean inside. The last two I got did not look like they had ever been cleaned. The carbon and dirt build up was crazy in those.1 point

If you are into the blues this is one young man to keep an eye on. He won several honors yesterday at the 45th annual blues awards held every year in Memphis. He knows how to work a guitar.1 point

Thats all nice and fine, but here in the real world, risk mitigation is a part of life. Failing to take reasonable measures to operate in the world in which we actually live only makes one an attractive target for the criminal element. At some point, it’s just acting as an accessory to the criminals by enabling them. Reminds me of the meme about the guy talking to his neighbor who says “the coyotes keep eating our cats.” ”Where do you get the cats?” ”The animal shelter.” ”Sounds to me like you’re just feeding the coyotes.” Then the guys kid just runs away crying1 point

I can't help you with where, but I do suggest you start with IDPA. You can be competitive with the guns and gear you already have and use for EDC. Plus, its loads of fun! Look on the IDPA website for a club near you.1 point

Let me first say that I’m simple. I’m not hyper intelligent. I went in the Army for god sakes! The only savior for me is that I didn’t go into the Marine Corps!! I don’t know a whole lot about salaries etc. I don’t think that 16% of income is bad for salary. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe there is more to it. Just don’t seem a crazy amount. I would still rather have people that would do the job for free but with bills as we all have, I would expect people that are doing “company” work 24/7 to be able to pay those bills. Not talking about NRA level yachts but a median level of salary. We all know it’s more than that! I would be interested in learning more about family connections as far as salaries in the GOA.1 point

I don't know that they have mishandled funds. Their Form 990s (essentially their tax return) show that they spend zero money per year on lobbying. The NRA spent $4.92 million on lobbying just in 2021 (latest data available). But GOA doesn't really claim to be a lobbying organization. In 2022, GOA's total expenses were $10,698,495, and 16.2% of ($1,738,156) that went to salaries. Looking up their Form 990s year to year is a tedious task, but you can hit the high points on Pro Publica (Gun Owners Of America Inc - Nonprofit Explorer - ProPublica). Cheers, Whisper1 point
