  1. I finally was able to get to a Rangemaster Instructor course this weekend, after several years of bad luck/timing. It was worth the wait. Tom Givens and Assistant Instructors Dr. Andy Anderson and Jeff Boren were simply fantastic. The facility and staff at Boondocks FTC were truly top of the line. The three days of coursework, a mix of classroom and range skills, was fairly intense, and the standards are high. Anything under 90% in either the shooting qualification or the written test will be considered a failure, and you will not receive a certificate. While our class outperformed the average washout rate of 15%, we still had one of our number not pass. I enjoyed getting to know the other students; who were great people and shooters to the last. Considering their skills and professionalism, the class averaged scores of 97.4 on the Qualification and 94.6 on the written test. Given these performances, I was both surprised and excited to receive the class Top Shot Award for the highest average between the two.

  3. Up for sale is a Winchester Model 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine chambered in 30 WCF (30-30) made in 1911. It is close to, but not all completely original. This one was pretty rough when I started. When I work on an old rifle, I don’t want to make it “new”, just clean and functional. It’s not a collector’s piece, but it is now a really nice historic old shooter. The rifle has been completely disassembled, cleaned and put back together. There was little (if any) original bluing left on the metal. I did not try to make the metal look new, but I cleaned it up and gave it a vintage look with cold bluing. The original gum-wood stock was in pretty rough shape and had, at some point in the rifle’s 113-year life, been refinished and sanded a bit too much. The original gum-wood forend was also sanded and bit too much and is split at the front. I cleaned them up as best I could, but they were still just to ugly. I replaced them with a reproduction set from Gunville.com in American Black Walnut. After hand fitting the new furniture, it was finished with a hand rubbed oil finish. The original stock and forend will be included. The saddle ring is also not original to the rifle but I believe it is an old piece. It also now has the correct v-notched ladder rear carbine sight. $950, OBO. Located in Nashville. For sale/trade to persons who can legally own a firearm. Trade I’m interested in would be a Winchester 1873 in 32-20 I can send more (and higher resolution) photos (including some before photos) upon request.

  4. Sounds really stupid to me to make a knife that isn't a knife. Let the fools be fools, maybe this kind of sissification will help lead them to being bred out of existence.

  5. He's great. Ive kicked myself for years for not knowing who he was when I was younger. I went into Rangemaster when I was 19 or so, and didnt like the way some bald, old guy kinda talked down to me while I was looking at 1911s; so when it was time to get my permit, I got it elsewhere. A few years later I start instructing, and realized he was offering some good advice from years of experience. Kids....

  8. I have no words for companies that bend to the will of the few but a knife with no blade. I am so glad that I grew up in a time that allowed kids to be kids and adults hadn’t completely lost their damn minds. I now know why my grandparents and parents passed when they did. My grandfathers were born in 1896 and 1901. Can you imagine what they saw in their lifetimes. My parents were born during the Great Depression. I personally am a 1957 model.

  15. One thing you have to come to grips with is that S&W J-frames, with their coil springs, can't typically get the sort of triggers a well-tuned K, L or N frame can. Geometry, along with the spring type, makes it more challenging to get a smooth, light trigger, though Ken's suggestion will likely be a significant improvement. Larry

  20. He is just not interested in the gun. Long story about their relationship, but sad as it is, it resulted in me getting the gun.

  21. Not sure who the bald guy was, but if it was Tom, no shock there. He can be a bit…what’s the word…abrasive. I used to shoot IDPA with a bunch of Rangemaster instructors back in the day and they seemed to be the only show in town who used the last hour or two of carry permit class to work with some of the newer gunowners and go over some basic skills, instead of keeping everybody there the mandatory eight hours by telling stories.

  22. I gotta say it wouldn't be one of my Kimbers- I sure wish that this Kimber 1911's being a gun that doesn't work would die already- I have multiple Kimbers and they all work all the time- It's getting a little tiring hearing it over and over from people that don't own Kimbers- P.S. A cheap shot at something that's not relevant to the story-Actually looks like a Bersa-

  24. Few people find themselves in that kind of situation and react with as much courage, skill, and quickness like that. I'd be interested to know how much ground he had to cover in that short a time. Hero stuff indeed.

  28. My friend hasn’t fired this, he just doesn’t like it. Not sure what, if anything, his dad did to it before he gave it to him, heck, it may be unfired. He lives across the state from me, so I have to wait til he comes this way for work sometime before I get it.

  29. Magiznes play a big part in all guns and so does proper lubricant of the gun. When you get the gun from your friend inspect that feed ramp he "polished" to make sure the feed ramp angle hasn't changed. Dremel tool can be both your friend and your worst enemy to use if you don't pay attention or know what your doing when using them. I've had to replace a couple of barrels on a couple of used 45acp's one was my fault, the other two were ruined by the previous owner do to the miss use of a dremel tool. Ditch the motor oil for lubricant and get some synthetic transmission fluid for lube, I've used that for years on my ar's and semi aouto shotguns, and my 1911's and 2011's works great, make sure to lube the barrel hood and lock up lugs. And buy another brand of mag like the video said and test it against the factory mag. and see.

  34. Smart folks are working on this. You can look at this thread alone and see that they’ve already caused gun owners to classify themselves as being in “different categories”. Created animosity between gun-owners.. right here. Right here - I see the negative labeling of guys who are trading at gun shows. For me personally.. if those old retired guys at the shows make a few xtra bucks trading guns, they’re far less of a risk on a quickly diminishing society, than the anti-Israel mob - the blm looting and burning mobs - the democratic politicians destroying cities by taking on ILLEGALS by the 1000’s - the pro-baby-murder crowd - the folks who invite men into women’s restrooms alongside your wife or daughter - and on, and on, and on, and on …. there’s not even any reasonable comparison. As most of us know, this ruling only serves to give a corrupt government a better chance at knowing what guns every individual owns, moving forward. So.. a current corrupt government who has been instrumental in handing over millions of dollars worth of guns and military equipment to TERRORISTS overseas, is practicing communism in our country. And.. “we” as gun owners are immediately breaking off into groups to single out what the “other group” is doing wrong. As noted above, they have some smart folks working on how to cause us to support their bs cause, without us “knowing” we are supporting their bs cause.

  36. I’ve had really good experiences with CarMax. I’ve bought 3 or four From them at my local store in Rivergate/Madison. They gave me a fair price for trade-in when I traded, offered but didn’t pressure sell extended warranty and no haggle price on vehicle.

  38. I wonder how many of these issues with 1911 style pistols could be resolved with proper lubrication.

  39. Just picked up this little guy last week to replace my G29 as the new EDC. I absolutely love how 2011s fit in my hand. First time I felt the base model RIA DS 10mm, it was a match made in heaven. 1911s are cool and all but they always felt odd in my paw which is why I don't own any. Maybe it's dainty manlet sized hands, who knows. My only real complaint is the slide release is an awkwardly long reach for me. Both on that Bul Ultralight but also my Cosaint Arms COS21 10mm.
