Yesterday, six friends and myself, piled into a van and went to Louisville, KY. for the annual "Show of Shows" at the Ky Expo Center. We went last year and were hooked. It is absolutely unbelievable. Anyway, while there, I channeled my inner "Snaveba" and found this Winchester 1886 in 45 - 70 at a price I could not pass up. I have been wanting to get something in that caliber for some time, so this sort of allowed me to scratch a couple of itches at once. Have not shot it yet, but hopefully that will be in near future. I want to add a tang sight and Marbles makes a really nice one that allows adjustment for both elevation and windage. However, it is going to require drilling a hole in the tang and they recommend a gunsmith to do this. I am not set up for such an endeavor. Do any of you know of a good and reliable gunsmith in mid-state area that might do this?7 points

Super Tuesday is almost upon us. As well as other Primaries all around the nation. I strongly urge everyone to vote in the primaries. Let's be honest here. Come November the vast majority of voters are gonna go into the polling booth and simply vote straight R or D depending on their beliefs. They won't even care who the candidates are. If you want real changes, you have to do it in the primaries which determine who will be on that November ballot. Sick and tired of those worthless Congress critters that have been in Washington 20,30 even 40 years? This is where you get rid of them. Same thing in State and local government. We need fresh blood and new ideas folks. This is where you get them. VOTE and make your voices heard!4 points

Project gun, but could be made pretty again with a lot of work. I've only fired it once with shorts and long rifle to test for function. Worked fine and the shorts were fun, so quiet. The good: If I ran the serial number correctly, looks like it was manufactured in 1952. It has the fatter forearm than the later models. It works, the walnut has some nice grain, and it's got potential. The bad: Looks like some idiot used the forearm for a hammer. The butt plate is not correct, a Fajen, not a Marlin. It will need a total re-blue and stock finish. It has to holes drilled and tapped in the receiver, which I imagine was for a side mount. $400 no haggle, if you look at the big gun sites, you know what a pretty one is bringing.3 points

Interesting article I found on another forum. Four reform candidates for NRA Board. Interesting tactic too. https://www.ammoland.com/2024/02/nra-board-elections-support-the-four-for-reform-candidates/#axzz8SOTPqzMG3 points

More downsizing. Excellent condition 6" 648-2. I thought I had the box, but apparently not. Ahrends cocobolo grips. You can't get them anymore and they are very expensive to buy them now. Most I see are in the $250 range I am pretty sure I have the original Hogue's here that I will include if I can find them. I won't separate the Ahrends grips from the pistol. $1000. Meet within a reasonable distance (30 min) of Chapel Hill.2 points

It's surprised the heck outta me...but only one member of my family interested in things like slug throwers anymore. So I'm holding a few in reserve for a cousin and his son, but the rest I plan on selling over the next few years. I hope. If we don't all get reamed by the current gubment!2 points

Any type of refinishing or modification will reduce the value of it.Your gun, your call.If you’re leaving it for future generations that’s something to consider. If not, gold plate it.2 points

Bingo. It isn’t that it definitely will lead to positive changes, but unlike when WLP had an iron grip on things, they can change. I still believe the NRA could be a massive force for good if managed effectively. Imagine if the FPC or GOA had the resources and name recognition of the NRA? How much could get done then?2 points

That rifle appears to be drilled and tapped for a receiver sight. Providence makes a repro of the old Lyman 21 “climbin’ Lyman. To my eye, this would look “right” on your rifle, and you wouldn’t need to go drilling extra holes on such a fine specimen. Just something to consider.1 point

I see more wheelchairs than you'd imagine every year at the NRA Convention. Most venues there is plenty of room to navigate. The worst was Louisville, no way I'd try to get around at that one with a wheelchair.1 point

Its here! I actually picked it up last Wednesday, but I just got around to taking pics and posting today. 1943 Colt frame with an Ithaca slide. This one is a bit nicer than the one I got in round 1. I'm happy with it.1 point

It will be interesting to see if they come clean with their members. And FWIW, I still hope Letitia gats a raging incurable yeast infection, if she doesn't already have one. Her intentions were nothing but evil.1 point

From what I have heard on it, it seems like a good program. I believe they have put some tight criteria on it to keep it as non-biased as possible to a political ideology. Even so, many democratic leaders are against it. I think they are afraid to let in anything that could make people become more familiar with firearms as it could erode their position.1 point

If they don’t take action to shrink that board to a size that effective for governance, then nothing can/will change. That’s the key to everything right there.1 point

This was a civil trial, not a criminal one. It'll have to be enough that Wayne is going to spend the rest of his life in financial destitution and the next ones holding the reigns know they're being watched. Ironically the NYAG might have done more good for the NRA in the long term here than could be had from internal discontent.1 point

Today is my Sea Quartz 30. This one is made by Momentum, a follow on company from the long defunct Chronosport, makers of the original. Sharp eyed fans would recognize it at the watch worn by Thomas Magnum in the first 3 seasons of Magnum P.I. Before he got his Rolex Pepsi GMT Master 16750 from his father in season 4. (Tom Selleck still wears that very Rolex to this day.)1 point

Not that I'm a huge .380 fan, but there is something to be said for a .380 on your person compared to that 9 or 45 that you left home cuz its kinda big to carry1 point

I’m actually with NBS here. The ability to use AI to create sexualized images of folks isn’t so much an exercise in misogyny as an affront to human dignity. It’s immaterial to whether the subject is male or female, creating p*rn of someone without their consent is wrong. Full stop.1 point

That's tiny for a 380. It sure is an interesting design. Have you been able to source a safety lever?1 point

Would it work out to about the same price to just buy a new optics-ready EDC X9 and then sell yours? That would alleviate the problem of being without a gun, and would ensure that you get one done correctly by Wilson Combat.1 point
