  1. I'm a confessed Sig fan fanboy, so I like collecting some of the rarer examples. Back before Sig was Sig-Sauer, they were bound by strict Swiss export laws. Partnering with W Germany's JP Sauer & Sohn in 1976, they produced their guns in Eckernforde and began exporting to the world. Before Sig Sauer was an approved importer into the US, they ran their first imports through Hawes Firearms, and Browning. The Sig Sauer P220 was the first of these rebranded guns, and was marketed as the Browning Double Action Pistol - the BDA. The BDA was imported for only three short years, after which Sig Sauer was a registered US manufacturer for their own products. It had the Euro-style heel magazine release, which limited its success, but the modern design was undeniably effective. Approximately 10,000 sold in 45ACP, and another ~2700 in 9mm. The rarest of all was the BDA chambered in. 38 Super. Only 750 or so of these rare Sigs were imported under the Browning partnership, and they are one of the hardest early US Sig handguns to find. I'm pleased to have come across two over the years, and I snagged them both. Note they have an unusual slide profile at the muzzle. This is alternately called a "pinched" or "dolphin" nose, and was unique to the ~3400 9mm and 38 Super BDA's.

  9. Sorry to hear this Stan and the rest that have similar stories. I'm 71 and grew up in a culture that everyone drank and smoked. And then one day after even doctors said smoking was good for you. Look at some of the old cigarette ads. The cars all had cigarette lighters and ash trays. And yes it really is hard to tell a kid not to do drugs as you sit there with a beer or mixed drink in your hands. I used to be a drunk, the difference in a drunk and an alcoholic is alcoholics go to meetings. I haven't drank in about 20 years or smoked in 25-30 years. Both of these substances are hard to break. Not everyone can be a social drinker. Alcohol has it's place as a cough medicine but that is about all I can see it is good for.

  10. A great example of the use and need to practice is in the just released video of the officer involved shooting up near Knoxville recently. The female officer was shot in the leg and went for her tourniquet but it looked like she was unable to apply it to her leg properly. The civilian that stopped to help applied it and followed her directions as to how much pressure to apply. I don't know the extent of her injury but the extra minute or two to apply could have cost her if it had been to her femoral artery. Thank goodness she survived, and hope it wasn't just to the application of the tourniquet but of a less severe injury.

  12. The majority of improvised TQs are statistically more likely to fail than work. While knowing how to improvise a TQ is definitely a good thing, having immediate access to real ones is immeasurably better. An arterial bleed is not the time for "Arts and Crafts" if it can be avoided.

  13. I'm a huge fan of police trade pistols and accessories. They are some of the best deals around and leave room in the budget for accessories/ammo. Below is my latest setup from products mostly purchased through end of the year and during New Year's sale promotions on various websites. The Gun - A 9mm P320 C police trade in with 3 magazines ended up in my cart on sale for $299.98 at Botach. At that price, I figured give it a shot. I don't know where it came from but, I don't think this thing was ever used. With surplus trades, you usually get a few scratches and scuffs but this thing came pretty clean. Wilson Combat Grip - $60 delivered with an opticsplanet coupon code. The cool thing about P320 surplus guns is you're likely to change the grip out anyway and that might be the only part that actually shows much wear. Sights - Ended up getting a set of Warren Tactical Fiber Optic Sights for half price and free shipping during their end of the year sale. Came out to about $23. Weapon Light - TLR7X - Amazon - $130 Holster - Safariland Basket Weave ALS P320 C TLR-7 from Kings Firearms in Columbia. - $14.99 https://www.kingsfirearmsonline.com/products/safariland-528 All in - After shipping, taxes and fees - Came in at about $640 OTD. How'd I do?

  14. You're right. In many circumstances one could just say, "Well, that's what they get for electing the liberal leaders that they do." However, New York state is a different beast. Much of the population of the state are conservative in their views and voting. But, the cesspool of NYC is such a massive juggernaut that it sways the states voting to the left regardless of what the folks in the hinterlands want.

  16. Excellent advice all the way around. Always check the bullet shape. Different manufacturer, different bullet shape. For example, a Falcon Coated 9mm 147 will need to be seated deeper than a Blue Bullet 9mm 147. At 2.5gr of Titegroup and OAL of 1.09 my Power Factor with a Falcon is about the same as a Blue Bullet at 3.1 and OAL of 1.11. The profile of the Falcon is noticeably different and will not chamber over 1.09 Also when chasing the Power Factor requirements in IDPA I’ve found its best to chrono shooting weak hand (support hand) only. This lets me know wether or not the gun will cycle properly when shooting a stage when it requires strong hand or weak hand only shooting. Keep track of everything, even the loads that don’t cut it. I have numerous loads that I didn’t feel were accurate enough or didn’t cycle properly every time during testing that are lodged with descriptions of their failures.

  26. Attended a UT agricultural seminar The presenter stated Tn is losing farm land at an alarming rate of 8 acres per minute or 70.000 to 80.000 per year on average due to home development. Older farmers dying. and other factors He said TN was 2nd or 3 rd depending on data gathered in the nation for Farm land loss. And now fertilizer has gone to 750 dollars a ton at my Coop Food cost will be going up on a positive note now is a good time to over seed your lawn or put pre emergent chemicals down for weeds But you can’t do both at the same time unfortunately I thought this was important information farm report done

  29. My wife and I got out for a little range time yesterday afternoon. I tried her out on an MP 9MM EZ and she could not rack the slide. Still taught her how to shoot my MP 9C 2.0 and let her run 30 rounds through it. She has a SW model 65 Ladysmith 3" she calls her house gun. Keeps it in her walk-in closet. I replaced it with my new SW 686 + which is a 7 shot instead of her 6 shot Ladysmith. She shot it well also. She was in favor of the switch. I figured they are both 3" brls and the same size however the 686 has one more round to use if needed. I am a fan of all the rounds one can manage. Why I like my MP's, as they are 15 rounds in the mag and one in the pipe. Came back in the house and had wife to read 4 stories, in a book, "Guns Save Lives" written by Robert A Waters, about actual home invasions. Tried to impress her when someone comes in your house, uninvited, and knowing your home, they are not coming for "tea and crumpets". The stories spoke for themselves. All 4 showed that rape is not about the sex totally. It is about total, sometimes/most times, brutal dominance with a capitol B. My intention was for working on her mindset. Every chance I get I take her out to my back yard range. We both need our practice as I see my skills diminishing with age. Hers seem to be getting better. Got some bad news. I tested positive for Coved yesterday. Am scheduled for shoulder surgery on Monday but will need to postpone and reschedule that. Not feeling too bad just a nagging hack and funny head. Not too much congestion, "Yet!" Did not take the last coved booster. Had the first 3 shots. Life happens guys. You guys have a blessed day.

  37. Remember the "ladder method." Start with the minimum load data and work up to the maximum in tenths of grain increments. I usually find a load my guns like somewhere in the middle. It saves powder and excessive wear on the firearm, too. There are many horror stories out there from guys who started on the high end and sorely regretted it. If you can shoot in a place that allows you to set up a chronograph, buy one. It's a great tool for finding acceptable velocities and estimating pressures.

  39. Another reason to go CAT is that a larger percentage of people know how to use them. I'm a SWAT medic and while our guys are free to set their kits up however they want for the most part I want their blow out kits pretty much universal. One guy kept putting his old RATS in his. Finally convinced him that he wants every guy on the team to know how to save him quickly and not have to figure out some different device.

  40. It is called a "cannelure', keeps the bullet from getting pushed back into the case during recoil or other wise. I have a the tool to do the job, http://www.bulletswage.com/hct-1.htm. Works on swaged bullets as well to make a crimp grove for the case mouth to grip to stop set back.
