  1. Alcohol is just another drug that happens to be legal. Kids are told “never do drugs” by the same people who give them their first drink. Its potential for addiction and destructiveness should be respected as much as any other drug, but isn’t.

  2. It can be a combination of things, too. I've seen Jeep owners throw their credit card at the problem and, lacking a methodical approach, end up with death wobble and a sore wallet. This is the kind of thing that it's worth paying a reputable shop to diagnose.

  3. So sorry to hear this guys. Saying a prayer for all involved. I quit drinking when I was 26 years old. Too many times waking up and not knowing how I got there, the last time the lines crossed on the road. To this day I did not hurt myself or anyone else. I have not drank since then.

  4. It's a more powerful addiction than ppl seem to realize. I understand social drinking is widely accepted and promoted but some people allow it to consume their lives. Im thankful to have been exposed to the dark side at an early age and was shown what I didn't want to be when I grew up. Sadly some can't beat that devil in a bottle.

  5. Sorry to hear this. It's a bad problem. I've heard some people say lately that in 20 years alcohol will be seen as the new tobacco. A lot more people are starting to talk about how terrible it is for us. I've known 3 people between 25-40 that have died from it.

  6. A couple of years ago I suffered a pretty severe retinal detachment in my non-dominant eye. A series of laser sessions to shore up the retina in my dominant eye was performed to pre-empt an impending detachment there as well. After scleral buckle surgery and close to a year of healing, the vision in the non-dominant eye is much improved. During that healing period I started shooting w/ a RDS because while using irons the front sight was always to fuzzy too focus on. I've got to say-- it turned this sceptic into a believer. Today I shoot and train with both irons and RDS--- I'm confident in my skills with both to comfortably carry a firearm configured under either condition.

  8. Hey folks, just wanted to provide some insight, be cause I’ve had a few questions about it. This is not a serialized lower, but my understanding, after quite a bit of research is that an 80% lower cannot be completed and sold solely for the purpose of making a profit. However you can build one for yourself and decide at a later date you want to sell it. I’ve owned this for almost 2 years and have records to show that. It’s a great gun, soft shooting, very accurate, and super reliable, however, I am transitioning most of my shooting to the 1911/2011 platform and moving away from Glocks and their clones. That being said, I am not an attorney.

  9. I've used Elevated Off-Road in Murfreesboro and would recommend them. https://www.elevatedoffroadtn.com/ They work on a ton of Jeeps and have done suspension work for me on my RAM Power Wagon. I have nothing but praise for the quality of their work and the prices were more than fair.

  10. The steering damper rarely causes death wobble. It can help mask the problem but replacing the damper is almost always at best a band-aid (at least in my experience).

  11. I was pretty stupud with suppressor purchases early on: Huntertown Arms Kestrel 556 - company isnt even in business anymore. Use it as a .22 suppressor mostly. If/when it fails, whatever. Silencerco Osprey45: good suppressor, hate timing it. Doesnt work well on everything it can but due to its size, suppresses very well in both .45 and 9mm. But doesnt work well on 9mm due to its weight. I use it primarily on a Scorpion Evo. The last suppressor I got is what Id stick with: Surefire Socom RC2. Its been a rock star. Only have one in 5.56 but when SS gets on in 7.62 back in stock, Im jumping on it.

  12. I'm not for removal of alcohol either. I don't even begrudge folks for safely getting a buzz and using it as social lubricant. What I can't stand is the enabler and the taboo nature of telling someone they have a problem. "Hey hey, don't call Ted an alcoholic! You don't know what he's been through!". That's very true. I don't walk in Ted's shoes. But, do you know who else won't be walking in Ted's shoes soon? Ted. Because Ted is gonna die. Hope you're OK with that. I guess that's easier than hurting Ted's feelings.

  13. Sorry you keep encountering this, @NoBanStan. I agree with everyone involved in the tragedy of it all. I don't drink anymore for health reasons (made my blood pressure way easier to manage), and I don't miss it at all. I'll never be a prohibitionist because we saw how that worked, but if the world went dry, or reigned it in for their own reasons, that would make it a better place, I think.

  14. I'm glad I went the modular route. Having the ability to adapt to so many different platforms with only a couple of cans has more value to me than chasing less decibels and buying more cans for specific purposes. I went Silencerco with an Omega 36M, Omega 45K, and Hybrid 46 and they cover pretty much everything centerfire I shoot with the various adapter bits. There are other companies that do modular cans and may do a better job but this is what I have personal experience with. It's my understanding that much of the adapter hardware has cross-compatibility with other manufacturers. I got those, a rimfire can, and their Salvo 12 shotgun can and I haven't really had to urge to look into more cans except for 50BMG which mine are too small for

  16. My wife's aunt recently died as a result of her drinking. She crawled into a bottle after her husband died 7 years ago and drank herself into the grave last month. She/I weren't close, but I hated seeing the gradual pain and loss her alcoholism caused my wife and mother-in-law. I feel your pain, brother.

  17. I've had a PlumCrazy poly lower for years. Had many uppers on it in various calibers. Only thing I don't like is the trigger guard can't be replaced. Trigger isn't bad, functions fine. My New Frontier poly lower has a poly upper on it and shoots rather well for how cheaply I put it together. It is one built for my dad to carry around in the woods. At 69yrs old, he loves the weight savings over a standard AR.....

  18. Toby was a man of faith in Jesus the Christ. He was a very benevolent man and God fearing. He will be missed by some. Old saying is "Can't please alll people" rings true. None are perfect people. RIP Toby.

  19. My father was a weekend drunk. He would start of Friday and sober up on Sunday afternoon. He was a functioning drunk. All his activities were centered around drinking. All his friends did the same. Our hunting, fishing, and camping trips were all drinking parties for him/them. Like others here, I determined not to live that way and put my family through that ordeal. I have not had a drink since Military in the late 60's. His drinking really had an effect on me, and may I say for the better. Drinking can diffidently take your life. Sorry for the loss of your friend, NoBanStan

  23. Brother-in-law drank himself to death. Rehab never worked and he went many times. He was such a nice guy, too. The alcohol just seemed to "own" him and he couldn't escape it. Very sad. He was about 58 y/o. I had heard alcohol could kill you but never saw it happen until B-I-L. Now I know it's true. I feel bad for anyone w/an addiction. It's like the devil is in control.

  24. Did any of you guys have one of these? It came with a bunch of little wires, and the little pegs on the board were these little springs. You could bend the spring, insert the wire and create all kinds of circuits. I spent hours making all kinds of stuff. One of the things you could make was an AM radio, which was the coolest thing to an 8 year old.

  29. If you go to wranglerforum.com you'll find a lot of threads about death wobble. I've heard some say you can stop it with a beefier steering damper and some say it's worn links, joints, and bushings, like your track arm bushings and your control arm bushings. Regardless of which components are worn, the longer you wait to get it fixed, the more parts the death wobble starts destroying. It's a pretty violent shake and eventually you could have numerous parts to replace and they won't be able to tell what parts were wearing first. Here's the best video I've ever seen about death wobble: Last time I had something done to mine I went to True Blue Truck (used to be Essentially Offroad) halfway between M'boro and Smyrna. They did good work and were nice folks. https://truebluetruck.com/

  35. I only remember ever bumping into one of these as a kid. It was at a place in Gallatin that we frequented on Sunday after church called "The smoke house". It's been gone for probably 30+ years at least. They had one of these in the bathroom and I swear it just rotated the nasty towel around it. So stained that half the time i just washed my hands and slung off the water instead of using it.

  38. Had a good buddy with that affliction that I invited to live with me and my then wife to give him a stable space to figure himself out. The house was bone dry but that didn't stop him. Looked into outside intervention which ended up being a dead end. Unless you are family (which his was far away and just treated him like an ATM) there's practically nothing you can do. He eventually bought a house and we moved elsewhere because watching the decline play out in real time was too much to bear. A couple years later, up to the usual imbibing ritual, he slipped and bonked his noggin' and that was it. Best and hardest thing I did was walk away because you can't help people that can't help themselves.

  41. I'm also in the no car payment club. I still have my 2002 Tundra. 191k miles. Last year we drove it from Knoxville to to the Grand Canyon and back. Planning on going to Moab, UT this year. My wife's DD is a 2012 RAV4 we bought new and have no plans to get rid of. In 12 years the only repair I've had to make on it is a upper radiator hose.

  44. The dot allows you to do things that you cannot do nearly as easily with irons. The dot does not have to be centered in the window...meaning that no matter where the dot is , if you can see it on the target that is where the bullet will impact. So you are able to aim from contorted positions where it might not be possible to get both the front and rear sight aligned with the eye. The dot also allows for more precise aiming at distant or small targets. And it also allows for focusing on the target and "noticing the dot" instead of focusing on the front sight and noticing the target and the rear sight. It means your focus can remain on the target and you have eliminated one of the 3 focal points (rear sight) from your aiming consideration. And finally the dot allows people who are far sighted (as many people become as they get older) to see the dot even if they cannot see (or see a fuzzy ) front sight. Now do you NEED a dot? No and we can make an argument that inside 5 yards you don't even need SIGHTS at all if your grip, trigger press, and presentation of the pistol are good. But the dot allows you to easily engage targets at distance that would be "iffy " with irons.
