Before I moved here I lived in the Pacific Northwest. The road up to my community was a mile long and climbed 500'. I was the snow-plow guy, as I was the only one up there with a tractor. Some people would complain to me if I didn't have the road cleared in time for the morning commute. After I left they found themselves paying big money IF they could get someone out to do the job. Point being that there will always be entitled elbows out there.12 points

Man I'm always amazed by the stupid comments online. People are complaining that Knox City/County has not plowed or treated certain roads. What limited plows we have are working 24/7 to treat the roads. This isn't Buffalo, NY. We don't have the resources to quickly deal with 10" of snow.7 points

Some people are self centered enough to think that if only one road was to be cleared it should be theirs. It doesn't work like that.6 points

Cabin fever hit for me and have to leave tomorrow so wanted to scope the roads out. Grabbed the neighbor milk and cruised around. Hit the 300k mark on my 02 frontier. Had a quick pipe dream of really wrenching on her this spring even though I hate working on vehicles. Minisplits/heat pump on an old block barely insulated house aren’t holding up great but that’s fine. 2 pairs of darn tough socks, hoodie, double bathrobe long John’s and PJs. Snow melted enough the dog finally zoomed around like a maniac after being cooped up. It’s the little things in life and that truck just makes me happy. Also, I’ve appreciated the snack update. I don’t keep snacks in the house. Day 3 and I randomly got a bag of gummy bears. Again, little things.5 points

Maybe our local electric membership should consider investing some of their advertising budget into equipment upgrades. I see tv commercials from them all the time. Why would they need to advertise? Where else am I going to buy electricity??!!??5 points

Just went out to feed the birds. Red birds are first and last to the feeders at morning and nighttime. My outside thermometer read -10. The other read -12. All I know, it does not feel that much difference, to me, at these temps. Just plain cold. I don't remember it has ever been this cold, just air temp with no wind chill, ever before. The year we built our home(84) the wind chill was -40 one day and the crew was out framing our home. Head guy asked me if they could burn scrap to keep warm. Of course I told him yes. That was a year no construction was going on and these guys that were doing the framing were needing the work. Most people, when hungry, will work. Felt sorry for those guys. Left my water dripping last night. First time ever. Been lucky, our water has never frozen, however I did not take the chance at these temps. Jimmy Carter was president in 83-4, and interest went to 20% on some items when borrowing money. Put me out of the farming business. Lost my shirt. Went back to the Post Office and now sitting here, warm, and with a good retirement. Thank God and Glory to Him. He showed me a way out of my mess, at that time. Changed my life forever. I now live for HIM and give Him praise. Guys, faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to Him (God that is), if you want to go to heaven. I encourage you to heed the gospel message. "He who has believed, and has been baptized, shall be saved" (Mark 16:16). Read it for yourselves and believe it. Free choice. God's biblical way to salvation. At 75 and with health issues, I take great comfort in this.5 points

Movement Partners - Starts With Us Daniel Lubetzky is listed right there, along with a bunch of very liberal far left supporters including Kathryn Murdoch, yes those Murdochs, Starting with red flag laws is NOT a way to reach out across the isles, if someone is too dangerous to be around guns, then they are too dangerous to be around society, taking their current guns away does nothing but make them get another gun or something far more lethal, and yes there are things more lethal.4 points

I've lived on this road over 20 years now. The only time it has been plowed since I've been here, a neighbor hit it with his tractor and grader blade. I'm fine with that. I knew it was going to be this way from the start and planned accordingly.4 points

I actually bought a legit snow blower last year. I did it for a couple of reasons. First, it was dirt cheap and used the same battery packs my other lawn equipment uses. Second, my driveway is a steep incline and is very difficult to shovel. When I bought it I joked that I fully expected to never use it. With my luck once I owned it we would never see accumulated snow again. I guess I was wrong. I looked like a Minnesota local out front with a rooster tail of snow shooting off into the air and into the yard next to the drive. I was glad to have it though and a couple of my neighbors looked fairly jealous yesterday.3 points

Tennessee's population has grown by 1.6 million residents in that time period. I can't imagine these companies have been great about updating infrastructure like they should have been. We've also had back to back severe cold weather events the last two winters.3 points

I used my leaf blower to clear the driveway. This was such a dry, powdery snow it did just fine.2 points

And next year there will be more people, more cold weather, and more electronic items. I can’t imagine how long just the permit process would be to build a new electricity producing facility. I don’t mean a field of windmills or solar panels; I mean one that actually produces electricity.2 points

Our main heat is a gas pack. And, our backup is a ventless gas fireplace. It has saved our bacon a couple of times. And, it pretty much heats the whole house. I don't think I would do an all electric house these days.2 points

I'm not going to debate it in this thread but go look up the politics tied to it and it will make sense. That's assuming you don't already know2 points

8 below zero at 6am on my porch in Hebbertsburg. I was worried whether my mini-split system, which does not have an electric heating coil, would keep up, but it's still blowing warm air. I think that next summer I'm going to add a propane heater or two, just in case. I won't do it during the winter, as the prices are double.2 points

Yep , we had an HVAC technician out today and it's some door thingy and something else keeping it from making warm air. It is under warranty THANK GOD ! Parts are ordered and until then we are surviving on kerosene LOL . We grew up heating with a wood stove and a kerosene back-up so its not too bad.2 points

I have a dual fuel unit (electric down to 45 and NG below that), the NG part has been working it's backside off, but we are warm and comfy. When it's 46 or so, I wish I had gone straight NG as the electric heat portion is just not cutting it for these two old folks here at this location. LOL We do have and use a NG fireplace for those 46 and up days when we feel chilled. LOL1 point

Our heat pump is a split system. Compressor tower outside, blower and back up unit inside entrance hall closet. My duct system runs the center of our attic from one end to the other. All celling outlets are very close to the main trunk line to cut down on exposure to loss of cool or heat. Also, the main truck line is insulated from within, and the very short offshoots wrapped in insulation and covered with blown insulation.1 point

7" at the house in Nolensville, drifts over 12" in some areas. Most snow I have seen here in well over a decade. My driveway is extremely steep, like 35º~40º steep. Took a good bit of effort to clear it. Only fell twice, pulled a muscle in one shoulder, and tweaked the already bad knee. Took the AWD Subaru out yesterday afternoon and local roads were not cleared but not terribly slick. The packed snow had decent traction even on plain all season tires. I had to force it to spin or slide in most cases. Love the Subaru AWD system. Work opened up today so I made my way in at 7am. Took the Subaru again. It was 2º when I left. Local side streets were actually slicker then yesterday afternoon due to the slush and snow pack actually freezing overnight. Still no issues getting into work. Once I got to the interstate it was virtually clear and 70mph+ wide open.1 point

Transplants? I thought that too but some of the comments came from locals. You'd think they would know better. Some people just want to complain about everything.1 point

I have spent some time analyzing the TN gun laws for my own knowledge and tried to simplify the most common scenarios that many of us may encounter. The following flowchart doesn't include all situations like employees of universities with permits, for example. However, I tried to include what I understood as the laws and how they pertain to those with and without a permit. I am not sure that this is exactly correct and the law seems to be a bit more complicated than I would like, but I attempted to put it in a format that I could more easily consume. I would appreciate any feedback or help in validating what is here. Please do not bank on this being 100% acccurate as laws change and my interpretation may not have been correct in some situations. Hopefully it helps some of us not get into unnecessary trouble. Thanks EDIT: Updated May 27, 2022 TN Gun Carry Law Flowchart-updatedMay272022.pdf1 point

If that were true then we’d have a lot less internet yankees telling us how to run a proper winter.1 point

I went to Academy with a buddy this weekend. Relevant conversation: Buddy: "I'm gonna pick up some 9mm. Pretty good price, you gonna get some?" Me: "Nah, I don't need it" Buddy: "Don't need it? hah. Do you have like a thousand or something?" Me: Buddy:1 point

There is a YouTube channel called Sig Mechanics that does a phenomenal job showing the safety features on the 320. It’s so good that frequently the Sig engineers watch it and comment on it. It’s just some random Canadian engineer who runs the channel. “Glock leg” used to be a legit thing as well (fascinating photos online) When the Glock first came out and people freaked about the polymer non-safety AD’s that were happening to people. A few weeks ago when that T.Rex kid amplified the stupid messaging around sig by posting that frame busted 320 and saying it happened during firing, well, the internet found the real video of it being ran over by a car. It’s this times a 1000 with sig complainers. Sig is the dominant military partner & civilian handgun… when you have this kind of market saturation you are going to have your fair share of people who shouldn’t be anywhere near a firearm and this reflects on the brand sometimes.1 point

Military is limited to FMJ ammo by the rules of war. Which makes sense in a combat zone. Kill an enemy soldier and you take him out of the fight. Wound an enemy soldier and you then need at least one, probably two men to care for and evacuate him. Thereby taking up to three men out of the fight. Civilian ammo is designed to do as much damage as possible with a single round to achieve a one shot stop or a clean kill on a game animal. Lots of people buy surplus military ammo because its generally pretty cheap compared to commercial ammo and many don't know the difference. So they use it for self defense or in some cases, crimes. Once again, the antis have no idea what they're talking about.1 point

Dead Right There (DRT). The military trains to shoot at center mass, which is a large target, think chest. An MOA at 100 yards is roughly a 1" circle, at 300 Yards, its about 3" circle. At 300 Yards, which is about the farthest you want to engage normally, a 3 MOA is about a 9" circle, so well within the chest of your target. So it's not as bad as it sounds, but many soldiers are not crack shots, so that can expand that circle much more, but any hit is a good hit.1 point
