  1. Good evening all you collectors of S&Ws. I have here tonight a Smith and Wesson Model 39 (serial number 8842) which I believe was manufactured around 1960 give or take a year. This specimen is in excellent shape. Really overall a great find. What makes this one even more unique is that the original box is included in the sale along with its two magazines shipped from the factory. As you history buffs know, this model 39 was the first commercial 9mm double action semi auto pistol made in the USA. Up till then you had to import a german or other foreign made handgun, how unpatriotic. But now, you can flex your patriotism with this unique and beautiful piece just begging to come join your growing S&W collection. Asking $800, reasonable offers considered

  3. Mig with gas is better ,cleaner and easier to use .If you have a choice gas shield is the way to go That being said I use flux core wire no gas currently It works but clean welds are not as easy to make but

  8. My mig welder bit the dust in the midst of a recent project. I had been wanting a small 110v flux core welder for the purpose of trail repairs for my side by side. Something that I could run off of a small generator and it not take up much space. I picked up the Titanium 125 amp flux core welder from Harbor Freight. I just checked and it's currently on sale for $140. I'm extremely happy with it and feel that I got my monies worth even at the regular price.

  9. DO NOT tumble a loaded round. You hear tall tales about rounds going off is hard to swallow. However, some powders are coated in several layers that tumbling will undo these coating. This will change the performance of the powder.

  10. Picked this up new to get into some long-range shooting, but haven't had the extra cash to buy a good scope since I bought my first house. It's been sitting in an indoor safe and has never been fired. I have all the original accessories, manual and (2) Tikka 10rd mags. Got rid of the box when I moved. It's brand new. Asking $1,750. Please reach out with any questions. Willing to travel a little ways to meet up.

  13. If you cant find a fit at any of the excellent craftsmen mentioned above, I can thread your AK/M in M14x1LH with the front sight post using a bore-centric Thread Alignment Tool. My first choice is always a lathe, but sometimes pressed and populated barrel assemblies don't give you that luxury. I've done a couple hundred; lots of AKM's were muzzle-neutered in the CA market, even requiring removal of welded thread caps or worse. David in Chattanooga

  15. The only guns I really care about are 1911s for the reasons Massad mentions. Even then, it's only the nicer ones I'm very concerned about. No one wants to mess up a Nighthawk or Wilson Combat. Personally, I don't make it a matter of practice to drop the slide on any semi-auto.

  16. I don't do that as a matter of routine for the reasons he gives. But I don't worry about it if the slide drops on an empty chamber every now and then.

  18. I carry Hornady Critical Defense as my standard load in just about every pistol I use for self defense. Only exception is my S&W Governor. If I remember correctly, in that I have some Winchester PDX1 Defender shot shells.

  19. It seems Hornady is one of the very few ammo brands that one can radially purchase about anywhere now. I was at Acadamy Sports, in Smyrna TN, a week ago and the only S D ammo on the shelf was Hornady for 9 MM or 38 Spl. By the way purchased a pair of Vortex Diamondback digital binoculars. Real clear and small. They were 8X42's. Bird watching you know? Wife and I viewed a Kestral, in our back yard last week, for the first time. That bird is a Hawk like bird about 12" tall and very pretty. He was eating a full-grown black grackle B bird. It actually flew off carrying the B B so it was a strong flyer.

  21. An hour or two is plenty for pistol cases. I wouldn’t think rifle cases would require too much more. A powder cop is useful for pistol ammo to prevent a double charge or no charge, but it won’t tell you that you are .2 grains low, etc. No charge shouldn’t be an issue because you just manually charged the case and a double charge will probably spill everywhere. A powder cop makes sense on a progressive setup, but since you are doing a lot of it manually, I don’t think it’s necessary.

  22. Maybe I can cut out the middle man and just go through the tub from the top Jokes aside, I do really appreciate you guys providing helping with this info. What i need to do seems simple now. I was over-complicating it. But that's how skillsets work I suppose. If you ever need help with cloud hosting or anything compute related, i can do that.

  26. Congratulations to the Michigan Wolverines. They took out my Tide & Huskies. Ouch. Would love to see them play Georgia just to see how that would go. Now Nick Saban has retired. It will be interesting to see how Alabama does moving forward. Heard Dan Lanning from Oregon is the hot rumor to replace him. Time will tell.

  27. I would either dry the wet tumbled brass in a dehydrator or de-prime before wet tumbling to completely eliminate any moisture in the primer pocket. Ask me how I know

  32. I have always had a problem seeing those gun buster signs. It's like they just fade into the background. I finally went and got my KY permit. They don't have that stupid law here. You can walk right past a sign here. All they can do is try to get you on trespassing.

  34. I bought a $300 Yeswelder on Amazon. It's MIG or Flux-core, 220V only. No, it sure isn't a Lincoln, but for a guy like me who occasionally welds a project it seemed like the ticket. But be aware that you're going to pay $300 for a bottle of gas, too. And if you want to weld aluminum then you'll need another bottle of gas. And you'll need a cart, too. But that's true of any welder you buy. Edit: I almost forgot that I had to run a new 50A service as well. $7.80 a foot for the wire. So even the cheap welders aren't cheap.

  35. @ironsniper1 feel free t shoot me a PM. I’m in your area and I have a mobile welding business. Unfortunately TIG is what I do the least of…mainly stick on heavy equipment repairs and mig on most fabrication projects. Some SS TIG, but only a couple times a year. I would brace yourself for spending a minimum of a couple grand on a decent TIG machine. Miller has a couple small units that mig, stick, and TIG but you’ll be a few grand in once you set it up to all three processes. But feel free to reach out and I’ll give you whatever help/advice that I can.

  36. I did but it involved a return to school. My wife did and used her previous education plus some new industry specific training to make the jump. For me I quit my IT related job to start a second temporary career in the restaurant business that allowed me to work nights and return to school. I did a couple years back in school to get started in my new machining and eventual engineering role in the hard parts manufacturing world. I was experiencing extreme burnout in the IT world so I have been infinitely happier after more than 15 years in manufacturing and engineering. My work is interesting (to me), I have had some great experiences, and made some great friendships. I got to travel the world which was good at the time but eventually I changed roles so I did not have to do much traveling anymore. My wife spent 20 years in logistics and intermodal freight management. She eventually started her own business with two partners but did so at the worst possible time when the industry and the economy itself went into a major free fall. With the business failing and no good prospects for transitioning back to a role with a decent company, since no one was hiring at the time, she took a handful of database / SQL / and related IT courses. We scrapped together a few thousand dollars to allow her to take the classes. She managed to talk her way into healthcare analytics role for a major health care company in town after doing some creative spinning of her past logistics and marketing degree and employment roles. Within a year she was back to making just as much as her best year in her logistics career. Within 5 years she had more than doubled her salary, within 10 years she had tripled it. She now works as a senior project manager / product owner in the Healthcare/health insurance management data industry. She does not regret the change one bit and wishes she had done it a decade earlier. Her stress level is much lower, benefits are better, income is significantly better, and she actually likes most of her coworkers. She also is able to work 100% remote. Sort of odd that I was in IT and hated it bad enough to get out while she hated her career choice in logistics so bad she got out to go into IT but you have to find the groove that makes you happy. Her brain was built to stare at data, code, and Gantt charts. My brain was built to look a blueprints, geometric dimensioning & tolerancing, CMM reports, and G Code.
