  2. Been looking for good . 357 carry revolver and was curious about the K6S or a King Cobra. Willis68 had both and I got to handle them both and both are fantastic. The K6S was just so light, thin, slim, and modern feeling. At the same time, it felt solid and tight. I really liked the looks of the 2" barrel but really liked the increased ballistics of the 3". I got to say this is the most carriable 3" revolver I've ever held. Excited to get it to the range.

  4. Glad he is gone. Lived the life of luxury on the NRA's dime, so they say. If they get someone worthy, I will renew my membership. Still remember "Cold dead hands" from Charleston Heston.

  5. I seriously doubt it is because of "health reasons", Regardless, he's stepping aside even if it is just to avoid being ousted in court and that's the important thing. How far he steps aside remains to be seen.

  6. Many NRA members have been calling for his goodbye letter. Sorry it had to end because of health reasons. I hope both the organization and LaPierre get better.

  7. When I was a kid, our subdivision had split roads with a median. They tried to keep the medians pretty with various flowers and shrubs. A couple local nitwits kept driving through them at night. Dad and a neighbor got annoyed and bought some 2" black iron pipe. They stuck 4' lengths of it half in the ground inside a few of the bushes. A few nights later they heard some unfortunate noises. The next morning they found fresh tire tracks in the median. They followed the trail of oil and coolant around the corner and called in the license plate number of the truck. The judge sentenced the guys to community service, redoing all the landscaping in the medians.

  9. You just made my day. This is fantastic news! "Resigning for health reasons" is so cliche, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. I hope he doesn't let the screen door hit him where the good Lord split him. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  10. I'm quite curious if the NRA agreed to indemnify him as part of, or even a condition of his stepping down. He's not going to get away from the civil trial next week.

  14. I actually did a 3/16 thick mailbox and welded up a 3/16 thick 4x4 steel pole. I put concrete in the pole, but not the mailbox. I was hit by a car once a messed up every panel on that side of the car. I had to clean the silver paint of the mailbox and paint about 1-2 square inches of it. Never had any other problems. This was after I fixed the initial vandalism issue. I didn't burn anyone's car down, but it did involve a tow truck. LOL

  17. The Chiappa Little Badger weights a little less but my AR7 survival rifle is the lightest I own and weights only about .5lbs more and is a semi with an 8 shot mag. Kind of a bonus that it breaks down and stores in its stock and floats. Mine is very accurate and is one built during Henry's ownership and though some people have had feed problems mine has feed perfect.

  25. The “Winchester Stock Oil” I use is a product a restorer sells on eBay. It is boiled linseed oil and some tint. Supposedly very close ti what Winchester originally used. I cut it 2-1 with mineral spirits. The Watco Danish Oil I use straight from the can. It has worked really well on a lot of stocks. I use the natural color but they have tinted.

  26. I have 3 Taurus 7 shot revolvers, one I gave to a daughter years ago. Two of them are my EDC carry's. Have had no problems with any of my Taurus revolvers and I have several thousands of rounds thru the 3. Bet my welfare on one of them. These 3 were made in the last 10/12 years.

  27. I am a revolver guy. Like yours a bunch, Smith. I recently purchased a new 686 + from outpost in the Boro. It is stainless and IS a 7 shot with a 3" brl also. My EDC is a 7 shot Taurus 617 38/357 2" brl which I carry Corbon DPX 357 ammo in. The 686 is a little large for pocket carry. I pocket carry the Taurus when I am out of bed. I have an alloy frame 617 which is much lighter 7 shot, but only in 38 Spl. If I feel a need for more ammo on board, I carry a S W MP 9C 9MM IWB 15 shot and 4" brl or a Ruger Max 9 13 shot in my pocket. I do not feel under gunned with the 7 round revolver and I also carry one reload, always, in a strip in my back pocket. This is my current carry firearms and has been for 4 years. Practice with all 3, but not on the same days. I always concentrate on one at a time. "Smitty", hope you enjoy your new revolver. Looks fine guy!

  28. A news report from WCMH Columbus quoted a study commissioned by BG State University and Ohio's attorney general showing that gun violence in 6 of 8 major Ohio cities decreased. The attorney general said this proves that although they still have gun violence issues, Constitutional carry did not increase that as the anti's claim. 29. It really depends upon the situation. I have developed a process the last couple years. I always start with rubbing the wood down with denatured alcohol. This will get off any grime and kind of let me know what I’m dealing with. Often, someone has added a poly type finish at some point in the life of the rifle. This comes off best with denatured alcohol either scrubbing it with 0000 steel wool, or a combination of steel wool and scraping with a thin plastic scraper (if the finish is really thick). I will also use a wipe/scrub with acetone if there is from water or oils, or if I want to get the wood back to a more neutral color. I avoid using sand paper if I can. I don’t like to remove wood. However, I have on a couple rifles (this one included) sanded a fair bit. The Model 12 stock was really wavy and coarse feeling so it got more sanding. 220-400-800-1000 grit. When sanding, you really have to be careful not to sand the edges where the tang and the butt plate interface with the stock. It can be really easy to take off wood and then the metal is proud to the wood and it is pretty obvious the wood has been sanded too much. I then go back usually with several applications of Danish oil applied by hand and rubbed in. Sometimes I will start with an application or two of Winchester stock oil if I want a a reddish tone.

  30. Update - thanks to anyone her who bought something from me and others who gave well wishes and motivational support! I got set up with a vehicle at the end of December, after much confusion at the insurance company where the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing for completing my claim settlement. I was able to raise enough cash through my "fire sale" plus my settlement to purchase a nice used truck. I still have the items listed above for sale. I figure I have already separated myself from them, so I will continue with selling those off to now get in front of my kids' braces this Spring. LOL

  31. Understood you have a 52, but I was referring to the Sporter model, not the training model. Something like this. https://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-for-sale-online/rifles/winchester-rifles-model-52/winchester-52b-sporter-with-special-order-stock-and-finish.cfm?gun_id=102552640 This is a bit high but probably not as much as you would hope.

  34. It was in rough shape when it got it at auction. I had to fix 5 cracks in the stock and one in the forend. Then I cleaned off rust, etc and cold blued the scope and rifle, and refinished the wood with a hand rubbed oil finish (before photos from the auction site)

  35. A friend of my Dad is/was a metal fabricator. He solved repeated mailbox problems by building one out of boiler plate that looked like a stock standard mailbox. welded it to a piece of 6" well casing cemented it deep in the ground after filled the pipe full of concrete. In a week or so he found a broken baseball bat laying by his box and it hardly scuffed the paint. I have been lucky with over 50 years of rural delivery in 3 location and near lost a mailbox to vandalism, once by snowplow.

  40. Well, what money I have is "stupid" money for sure, ha, ha. But as I mentioned in my original post, I already have a Winchester 52 and a 75 which is almost on the same par, but those rifles are very heavy and not what I need for long walks and lots of off hand shooting. I did find something today in a pawn shop. It is a classic from Remington. The model 512P Sportsman. Bolt action and tube fed. This one was made in 1946 and it fits all of the needs that I have. While I have run some rounds through it, I have not sighted it in yet so I will need to get some time to do that and dial it in.

  42. If there truly were that many idiots running around causing problems for everyone simply because they lacked mandatory firearms training than we would certainly be hearing about it and the TN legislators would certainly be trying to saddle us with it. I’m 100% in agreement that responsible gun owners should get training, just like I think everyone should stay out of debt, workout most days, and quit drinking, but I certainly don’t think any of that should be mandated. It’s a very slippery slope whenever we encourage the Govt to mandate something in the public “best interest” as they get a taste for it and don’t know where to stop.
