  4. I joined in 2009 as well @Lumber_Jack. There's been a lot of change in this world since then my friend, And in "the blink of an eye". My appreciation to @TGO David and the mods for their amazing ability to "herd cats" and keep this place up and running. And to the members for the information exchange and conversation. Most of the conversation is civil. Thanks TGO!

  5. My kids are teens now (or close enough) so the Santa stuff is over. So now, there's very little to look forward to. They are still pretty grateful, but they don't want toys and stuff anymore. Now it's money or some... oddball thing that doesn't really make sense to me. TBH, I'll be glad when it's over. I should be enjoying life since i'm out of work but instead i just have the dread of shopping, traffic, crazy people and the inevitable return to work. I guess this is mid-life? Lord help me.

  8. I have 3 kids age 5, 3, and 1. To see the joy and excitement for them as the build up to Christmas is fun, I’m not gonna lie. But for me I completely get anxiety about buying gifts for sisters and brothers in law etc. not because of money really but just the idea that we have to buy a gift to represent some form of love? How about we just exhange heartfelt “I love you’s” and have a drink? I’d love to reserve the gift giving for children but alas no one listens to me. My wife and I probably Huy too much for Christmas but we really do try to keep it moderate as it can be overwhelming for small children plus we want to set an example that we “don’t get everything”. Now my mother in law who had excessive amounts of discretional funds is another story. She buys so much ..ish that the kids are tired before all the presents are unwrapped. That gives me the same anxiety they @Erik88 is feeling I’m sure. Just unadulterated consumerism. But it’s tough to get it reeled in. At the end of the day we teach our kids about the true meaning of Christmas and as they get older we’ll strive to drive it home more as they’re ability to grasp the concept grows. Until then I hope Nana saves the Reciepts because 75% of the ..ish is going back where it came from.

  9. Anyone collect Case knives and display them? If so, curious how you collect and display. My son has a bit of a collection started and recently ran out of space in the Case display we got him. Myself and his grand parents get him a Case knife each birthday/holiday/etc.. with the hope he ends up with a nice collection by the time he’s an adult. Was planning to get a second display case similar to below as his collection continues to grow but thought there might be other unique ways to collect and display I hadn’t thought about.

  24. We have recently had a discussion about a place I've always wanted to go. One of my favorite bands will be there in April. We never get to go anywhere alone due to the kids and she was afraid I'd be too cold in April so I told her we'd try next time. The next day she was exited. Fingers crossed.

  27. Before my wife passed we stopped buying for each other. We only bought for the kids and grandkids. We decided instead if there was something big we both wanted during the year we would get that. It was a lot more pleasant and less stressful and made us both happy.

  28. CMP recently announced that they will do another M1 workshop this year. In this program you will be trained in the skills of M1 gunsmithing and you will build your own M1 rifle. However, they get so many applications that attendees are drawn by lottery. It ain't cheap either. Frankly, the odds of getting in are pretty slim. However, if you just want a rifle, by all means make the trip to the store in Anniston. That way you can pick from available stock and get one you really like. The staff is extremely helpful, will answer all your questions and help you get a good one.

  31. Hello, I am looking to do some general shooting drills and specifically some long range shooting. I cannot find any ranges near me that would accommodate my desires, at least not without a costly yearly membership. I am looking to shoot out to 600-700 yards. I would be willing to pay for my time in/use of your field. Ideally, what I am looking for is a farm that is ok with me shooting for 2-3 hours some Saturday after deer season ends. I would bring all my own stuff, clean up my mess, provide my own targets, etc. All I need is a safe shooting direction, the necessary distance and that is it. I would want to meet the land owner day of to verify backstop/safe shooting area and my father may join me depending on the day. I am located in Portland TN and I would prefer to be within 1 hour of Portland. Willing to go further but that is my ideal. If this sounds like something you are interested in please let me know. My father and I are both TNGO members, HCP/ID can be provided day of if desired.
