I generally hate all holidays! They are made up, commercialized b.s. that play on people’s emotions in my opinion. It seems that holidays most negatively affect the poor, who go out of their way to participate in events they can’t afford. I hate Valentine’s Day the most, because my wife receives appreciation for my love year around. Very few women are spoiled in the manner that I spoil my wife! I recall sharing the story with you all about telling my kids there was no Santa at an early age, and them telling their classmates what I said and causing a disturbance at their private Christian school. I never recovered from that. I simply wanted my babies to understand that the celebration of Christmas was a symbolic celebration of Jesus, and the gifts they were given came from their parents, not from some stranger who hadn’t made sacrifices to make them happy. It seems like you have reached the point where reality trumps the expectations of society. CONGRATULATIONS!5 points

Same with my adult kids. They now prefer cash or gift cards. I don’t require gifts for myself for Christmas, birthday or anniversary. I have everything I want and need. No need wasting that money on me. I’m a giver.4 points

I intentionally avoided this thread until now because I figured it would be full of a bunch of mushy Merry Christmas and emotional BS. Now I see that many of you feel the same way about Christmas as I do. I got completely fed up with the commercialized greedfest that Christmas has become a long, long time ago. Then there's the fact that my wife passed away in December. That's not to even mention the crowds, craziness and stupidity that abounds anywhere you try to go. Truth is that from Black Friday until about the second week of January, I make it a point to avoid all retail stores just so I don't have to deal with the idiots. The so-called holiday season brings me no joy at all. I'm half Grinch and half Scrooge. I'm a Grooge. The only people I give gifts to are my kids. And I just give them money to buy whatever they want. I sure don't know what they want or need. I also tell them not to get me anything. If I want or need something, I just go buy it. No point in them wasting their money on me. Ok fellow Grooges, all together now: BAH! HUMBUG!4 points

I’ve got a Panasonic plasma upstairs and it won’t quit. I think it’s from 2011 or 13. I can feel the heat from the screen about 2-4” away. I did go with the 77” OLED in the living room. Wife had a fit when they dropped it off and mounted it. They were on my side. Said the box made it bigger than it really is. It didn’t shrink much though.2 points

@Erik88 I think one of the things that has made me happiest in all seasons of the year is the decision that I made several years ago to unplug from the news. We cancelled our cable TV subscription, went Internet-only, use OTA antennas for local news when the weather is bad, and I try like hell to avoid anything and anyone that wants to fill me in on whatever's happening right now in the world. This has even made Christmas better for me because people know that I'm not the guy to talk politics or pop culture with. If they try to pull me into those things, I remind them that I'm not the guy. I know that may not exactly hit the center of the target for you since the commercialization of Christmas is a current source of pressure for you, and I couldn't exactly trace the DNA of this and how it affects my own enjoyment of the season... but it really has made me a happier guy overall.2 points

If I'm reading my Bible right, the wise men brought gifts to Jesus, not to everyone else. The greatest gift we can give to Him is ourselves, not the world's junk.2 points

Christ is the reason for the season. I'm just trying to focus on my relationship with him. I'm not particularly great at staying the course, but I would like to be.2 points

Little back story on this buck. I took over this lease 5 years ago. I remember putting cameras out for the first time during the spring of 2017. A time when you would think bucks have shed their antlers. But to my surprise I get this buck on camera. He was a wide 6 pointer then but still in velvet. I thought that was really weird. All year long I had pictures of him and he was always in velvet. As time when on I realized this guy never once shed his antlers nor his velvet. I had thought he might have been a doe or something happened to him. After about the 3rd year I knew I wanted to shoot this deer and solve the mystery. I had talked to others that hunt around me and they had this buck in camera a few years prior to me taking over this lease. I had hunted this deer for 2 of the 5 years I've had the lease but by the time hunting season came he disappeared. Fast forward to this velvet season. I was hunting one of my favorite stands and had several bucks show up. Had a really big 8 come in and I was about to pull the trigger on my crossbow when I seen "helmet head" walk in. I knew right away what buck I was going to shoot. I flung a bolt his way and made a great shot. He ran around 100 yards with an easy blood trail. I was amazed how crazy his antlers had become over the 5 years. He went from a really nice wide 6 to something weird, unique and even ugly looking. He just kept breaking off and things grew weird. When I rolled him over to gut him I had noticed he had the hose but not the nuts. The poor guy never grew them out. That explains why he was always in velvet and never shed. Was a bittersweet end to "helmet head". I know hes crazy and ugly looking but what a great challenge to hunt him and finally get my hands on him. He will do justice on my wall in the trophy room. We estimated the buck to be 8 plus years given the history with him in the area.1 point

Up for trade is my Nighthawk Custom GRP Recon chambered in 45 acp. Fit, finish, and function as to be expected from NHC. This pistol has very minimal holster wear towards the muzzle and on the front rail from having a surefire x300 on it. Looking to trade for other high end 1911s in either 9mm or 45 acp such as Wilson combat , alchemy custom weaponry, NHC, Springfield custom shop, Ted Yost builds ect. Can add cash if your trade is worth more than the nighthawk. Thanks1 point

Hello, I am looking to do some general shooting drills and specifically some long range shooting. I cannot find any ranges near me that would accommodate my desires, at least not without a costly yearly membership. I am looking to shoot out to 600-700 yards. I would be willing to pay for my time in/use of your field. Ideally, what I am looking for is a farm that is ok with me shooting for 2-3 hours some Saturday after deer season ends. I would bring all my own stuff, clean up my mess, provide my own targets, etc. All I need is a safe shooting direction, the necessary distance and that is it. I would want to meet the land owner day of to verify backstop/safe shooting area and my father may join me depending on the day. I am located in Portland TN and I would prefer to be within 1 hour of Portland. Willing to go further but that is my ideal. If this sounds like something you are interested in please let me know. My father and I are both TNGO members, HCP/ID can be provided day of if desired.1 point

I watched War Horse One last night. A good degree of suspension of disbelief is required but I was definitely entertained. I would love to have one of those endless magazine vests too! But doubt I could lug it around LOL. I enjoyed it and appreciate the recommendation. Thank you.1 point

The spreadsheet of how much I spent on each person to make sure nobody feels slighted is a sign that I'm doing it wrong. Next year only my grandbabies get gifts. I'm giving the rest to a better cause: church.1 point

Simpler than that. Load em up and haul em home. As far as turning them into cash, you have several options with varying difficulty/varying amounts of cash realized. 1) Easy…Take a cash offer from a schmuck like me and be done with it. 2) more difficult/more lucrative…employ an auction house with a good reputation to sell them, or find a reputable dealer to sell them on consignment. 3)‘most difficult/maximum profit…research value, advertise them, and sell each one individually yourself. This will require dealing with deadbeats, navigating the ever challenging world of shipping firearms, etc., but will realize maximum profit if you have the time and inclination to go that route.1 point
