My brother received the same variation of Model 94 rifle with case hardened receiver/saddle ring as a Future Farmers of America "American Farmer" award in 1972. The banquet / award ceremony was held in the High School gym and the rifle was handed to him on stage and he carried it home. How times have changed.5 points

I'm not concerned either, but this chronic panic buying just wears on my nerves. Of course you're right Greg. A remarkable sales campaign fueled buy the shooting community. And as a shooting community, we can be our own worst enemies.5 points

I think the shortage is/was very real. I’ve seen local stores that were reliable sources with 0.0 in stock for several months straight. That doesn’t serve their (retailers or manufacturers) business models. Several smaller bullet companies have closed shop because people are reloading less because they had no primers and therefore didn’t buy bullets. I wasn’t happy to see three of the four American primer manufacturers lumped under the Vista umbrella (Federal/Remington/CCI). I was even less happy when I learned that Vista was recently sold to a Czech group. I’m glad I’m not short on primers.4 points

Since this landed on their lap, they could, and IMO should have issued an injunction until the full appeals court could take the case on. If the lower courts don't get to this, many will have to register their affected weapons those that don't will be subject to arrest, and those that want/need one will be unable to get one. That, IMO, is the reason to issue an injunction, it would cause irreparable harm to thousands. I don't see that as a knee jerk reaction.4 points

Will's guns are clean and good to go ! I've bought a few from him and they are always in great shape ! If I had the cash in hand I'd probably grab this one. I'm a sucker for a G17 Gen 3 .3 points

Right. You’ve seen prices double or triple though. Scarcity tends to do that. I’m thinking there isn’t any real shortage, just an updated business model. It seems like retailers would be pizzed were that the case, but what are they to do? Vista Outdoors has gobbled up just about all the shooting related companies. I thought there were antitrust and monopoly laws against this type practice. However, it would please .gov to see a decline in the shooting sports, so here we are.3 points

I always recommend the Lee Turret press for beginners and budget minded folks. It loads great ammunition for general plinking, hunting, and even some local competition shooting, though obviously not for money competition shooters, they have sponsors that can afford much better equipment. I'd start with a complete kit, then upgrade components once you figure out what you're doing and know what you want to upgrade. https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/0000690304/classic-turret-press-kit3 points

Good afternoon! I picked up this PC carbine on here a while back and haven't shot it nearly as much as I thought I would. I have only put a couple hundred rounds through it, and I'm not sure about before. It looks to be in excellent condition. Since I don't use it much, I thought someone else might. Included: Ruger PC Carbine Semi-Auto Rifle with Magpul M-LOK Default Ruger Stock, Ruger and Glock magazine adapters, and Ruger Magazine Volquartsen Ruger PC Carbine TG9 Trigger Assembly: https://www.midwestgunworks.com/page/mgwi/prod/vctg9-b MI Chassis for Ruger PC Carbine: https://midwestindustriesinc.com/mi-chassis-compatible-with-ruger-pc-carbine/ Ruger PC Carbine Shock Buffer: https://www.mcarbo.com/ruger-pc-carbine-shock-buffer.aspx 3 Glock 17-round magazines My asking price is $850, this does not include the sight or sling. I'm also interested in trades for a modern sporting rifle (AR, AK, etc.), braced Carbine pistols, or historic rifles/ handguns. The worst thing I can do to an offer is say no. If you are interested, please be ready to bring your license and sign a written bill of sale. Thanks! Grampy2 points

I’m having difficulty understanding the point of this entire discussion. Is it questioning how much meat gets chewed up or what kills?2 points

I think that the original post was a loaded question derived of cherry picked data to encourage fear mongering, though I don't believe that was the OP's intent. It's a very subjective question that could have a variety of different answers depending on the calibers compared. This question was undoubtedly tailored to misinform.2 points

SCOTUS generally likes to let lower courts work things out as mentioned. In this case, since it was decided by a three judge panel, I think they would wait until (if) the full appeals court gets the case and makes a ruling before deciding if they want it on their docket. The appeal for a full appeals court hearing has already been submitted. It's worth noting they didn't decide not to take the case, they decided to not stop the law from taking effect. So there's been no ruling from SCOTUS or precedence set on what the law has yet.2 points

Well let me add this.. One night at my best friend's house during High School, his dad had a BB pistol at his Archy Bunkers chair in the front room, he used it on neighborhood cats that climbed on his car, parents away for the evening, we started screwing around with it, we shot it in the front yard, you could literally see the bb leave the barrel and go out about 25yrds, me WTF that can't hurt, told my buddy shoot me in the ass let me see what it feels like, he shot me in the pocket I dropped to my knees crying like a little bitch. So I don't want to hear about Ft/Lbs, Ft/per second, grains, Energy, I'm pretty sure if someone shot me with a 22 short at a 1000yrds, I'm going to die..1 point

What did you go with? when we moved well over a decade ago we purged a lot of things until we found a new place. picked up several desk drawer/supports- old thicker metal. Some scrap 2x and casters I slapped this together with intension to upgrade. Lots of component spillover but I still load here and roll away. Handle on one side, back has Texas corner style, top has overhang on one side for single stage with 550b in middle. Bottom drawers bullets in use so heavy, but solid I don’t bother to lock casters. About $40 bucks in it without adding other project leftover lumber/glue/screws/finish coat1 point

SOLD Bought this from a member here a while back, just selling to fund another gun I don't need. Sons of Liberty Gun Works 12.5", this is the Sage Dynamics Edition upper and the Stripes lower. SOLGW BCG, Radian Raptor CH, Radian bolt catch, LaRue MBT-2S trigger, Surefire muzzle device, SBA3 brace, BUIS, Holosun 403 green dot. I don't think it was shot much at all before I got it, I've put about 300 rounds through it. SOLD1 point

You have a good point @BigK. I shoot a least once a week, generally twice and I don't know which will expire first... Me or my reloading supplies. It's not a terrible situation to be in. But I still look for a decent buy for my stores.1 point

That's not my point. with the same caliber how much difference in a 15.5 inch pistol barrel and a 16 inch rifle barrel? While a weaker powder charge might lost velocity in a longer barrel, it gains stability. What I would ask is would you carry a pistol to a gunfight? (maybe I would, depends on the distance) A better question is would you pick a pistol to go into battle with? Sure, caliber makes a difference, but that was not my point.1 point

Chances R, that is exactly why the Hamas terrorist were so successful in killing many and kidnapping 250 Israeli citizens. They were defenseless. Stupid idea to disarm any good citizens of any country. Them of all peoples, because their neighbors are all intent on killing every Jew, they see over thee. It renders all to a total state of vulnerability against an opposing army, or for that matter, an criminal. Politicians, Sheese! Edited to Add; If one does not want to be vulnerable, get you a gun, and get the Permit! then Train, Train, Train, then "Train" some more.1 point

I picked this poor thing up a couple of months ago. Hy Hunter Frontier Six Shooter in .22LR. According to the internet, these were actually made by J.P. Sauer & Sohn in West Germany and imported during the 1960s under the Hy Hunter name in Hollywood. CA. This poor thing was a mess when I got it. The barrel was loose, the firing pin was about to fall out and there was an occasional hitch in the action. Plus the grips were completely wrong for this gun. I really don't know how they managed to stay on. And on top of all that, the finish was very badly worn. But it seemed to have good bones and I only gave $30 for it. This is what I started with: The mechanical issues were fairly easy to fix. I found a set of close grips on the internet, but had to fit them some. The problem was in the finish. As near as I could tell, most of this gun is made of Zamak or a similar alloy. So finish options were limited. I decided to go with Brownell's Alumahyde II. Its a spray on, paint like, finish made specifically for alloy guns. I took the gun completely apart, sanded the parts and sprayed the individual pieces. The instructions said it dries to the touch in 1-2 hours, BUT needs 1-2 weeks to cure completely. Of course I tried to rush it and messed up a piece. I re-did that one and then gave the finish the full two weeks to cure completely. Got it all back together and I think it came out pretty good. I took it to the range today. I fired a little over 100 rounds of 7 different types of ammo. It ain't no tack driver, but its minute of tin can with ammo it likes. Not too shabby for a decrepit old man and those tiny fixed sights. All told, I have right at $80 in it. I think it was worth it.1 point

Just saw this, happened yesterday morning 5:00 a.m. Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska population 1,113 and a guy broke in and stabbed the Catholic priest to death. This needs to be a wake up call to everyone of us. These incidents don't always happen in big towns or cities. Also reading up on this incident, in August a 71 year old woman was murdered in this small town. There is are two interstate highways within 10 miles I-29 and I-680. So just because you live in a small town, how close is the nearest interstate highway or large city.1 point

ERay, you are entitled to your opinion. Let me share with you my thoughts on this subject. Jesus told the Apostles to buy a sword. (Luke 22:35-38) Anyone can read it for yourself in your Bible. In (Luke 9:3) earlier in the book of Luke, Jesus told the apostles He would take care of them, as he sent them out, and they acknowledged that fact He did take care of them in (Lk 22:35). And He said to them, "When I sent you out without a purse and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?" And they said "No, nothing." Then in the very next verse(36) He(Jesus) said to them, "But now, let him who has a purse take it along, likewise also a bag, and let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one."(verse 38) "and they said, "Lord, Look, here are 2 swords." And He said to them, "It is enough." Why would Jesus do this? Because he knew he was to be crucified, therefore He would not be bodily present to provide for them. I am totally not trying to be a smart butt, or disparage you in any way, but it seems to me if Jesus was not going to be able to provide necessities (including safety) for the apostles, what makes one think that He will do it for you? I mean we are talking safety here, or Jesus would not have told them to purchase a sword. Swords, when close, punch holes. Guns do it from up close or from a distance. They both are offensive weapons and can be used for self-defense. If I get harmed, while in church, and perhaps even die, I too have confidence God will take care of my soul thru my faith in His Son Jesus the Christ. On the other hand, my wife and children are going to be without their husband and father. My church will be without a servant intent on doing good. If I can help it, I am not going to let them loose me, if I can prevent it. I am a God-fearing man and trying to do a good job of serving in Jesus Kingdom here on earth. These are my thought, eRay. I will go as far to say I like the fact that some are concealed carrying at my church. And do pray that, if evil invades, God will guide them to protect all of us. Google the video from Sotherland Springs Church of Christ in Texas. You can see what their safety team did in real time. Edited to add content.1 point

I have been an NRA member for over 30 years. As a young child I actually saved up my allowance earned doing odd jobs and joined, mainly to get the hat which I noticed was being worn by most hunters and shooters which I respected. Then I started getting and reading the magazines, and I learned more about the NRA, so I kept renewing to support our freedoms. It quickly became obvious that they would run several special campaigns each year, usually via mail or inserts in the magazine, and I always waited for those because my budget was really limited and I liked to get the extra shooting hat, range bag, or whatever. Once I started making more money, I wanted to upgrade to Life but their regular price of $1000 was pretty crazy, and was too big of a step up for a young kid that had only been paying $15-$25 per year. So it was like they were asking me to pre-pay for 40 years of membership, and the only extra benefit was an inexpensive jacket or some other trinket that didn't come close to justifying the huge expense. So I just waited and eventually they offered a discounted upgrade to Life for only $300 and I jumped on it, and I got a nice windbreaker which while thin was actually decent quality and I still wear it today. After hitting Life, the other levels were more about vanity because they didn't really offer you any tangible benefits beyond supporting the cause, which is certainly the main purpose and highly valuable in itself, but most of the incentive items have become pretty lame since then. Who the heck needs or wants a cheap $10 steel replica knife mounted in the talons of a cheap plastic eagle that was made in China? Now I was still all for supporting the NRA, but it wasn't realistic for them to expect me (or the average joe) to shell out another $1000 every year just for a vanity title. So I continued to donate in various ways as often as my budget allowed, but I was patient and would only upgrade my levels when they ran the $300 specials which I noticed almost always come via mail, and very strategically around tax refund season - a smart move by the NRA as most of my big donations were funded by my tax refunds. Now that I am a Benefactor, I don't plan to buy any more vanity titles or join those silly special groups like Golden Eagles or whatever. Not only do those levels offer no new benefits or distinctions, but they don't even come with nice incentive gifts and they are quickly forgotten as soon as the marketing group comes up with some other new group name. Plus those group titles are ridiculously expensive, often $1,500 to $5,000 or more. No thanks. Now I am not opposed to making large donations, and I have given the NRA much more as I have been blessed by God, but I believe the most efficient way to help the NRA and further our cause is to recruit more members. So I just sign up family, friends, and in particular new shooters and kids whenever I get the chance. Then when they get their hats or range bags in the mail they will be pleased, and they will start reading the magazines just like I did, and before you know it they will be more educated and actively supporting our freedoms just like the rest of us members. I also attend the Friends of the NRA events, roughly 5-6 of them each year, where I spend quite a bit and take great pleasure in knowing that every cent of the proceeds from those events is donated back to the local gun clubs, schools, and education programs. So my advice is to just watch your junk mail for the annual solicitations from the NRA, upgrade to Life or higher when they run the cheaper and more reasonable specials, and spend any additional money to sign up more members and attend NRA events. Or better yet, take some of those new members out to shoot, and spend the money on ammo and targets.1 point
