  2. The Supreme Court in Bruen has laid out rules for deciding the 2nd Amendment rights of the People. Text, then history! If non-violent felon citizens seek to purchase and bear arms (defined in Heller as “Before addressing the verbs “keep” and “bear,” we interpret their object: “Arms.” The 18th-century meaning is no different from the meaning today. The 1773 edition of Samuel Johnson's dictionary defined “arms” as “weapons of offence, or amour of defence.” 1 Dictionary of the English Language 106 (4th ed.) (reprinted 1978) (hereinafter Johnson). Timothy Cunningham's important 1771 legal dictionary defined “arms” as “any thing that a man wears for his defence, or takes into his hands, or useth in wrath to cast at or strike another.” 1 A New and Complete Law Dictionary; see also N. Webster, American Dictionary of the English Language (1828) (reprinted 1989) (hereinafter Webster) (similar). District of Columbia et al. v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570, 618 (2008), the 2nd Amendment ensures that right under its ”unqualified command”. Rifles and shotguns with legal length barrels are protected by that command. All power being inherent in the People, General Assemblies do not have the lawful ability to deny a constitutional right, as certain policy choices have been taken off the table. “No longer should lower courts evaluating firearm restrictions “defer to the determinations of legislatures,” because while “that judicial deference to legislative interest balancing is understandable-and, elsewhere, appropriate-it is not the deference that the Constitution demands.” And while “end-justifies-the-means” rationalizations should generally be understood as antithetical to the rule of law, Bruen now leaves no doubt that such rationalizations have no place in our Second Amendment jurisprudence.” United States v. Harrison, No. CR-22-00328-PRW, 5-6 (W.D. Okla. Feb. 3, 2023) From the recent case decided 11/21/2023 in the UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE FOURTH CIRCUIT, No. 21-2017; “And Plaintiffs here say that they seek to own firearms for “lawful purposes,” J.A. 22–24, a point that Maryland does not contest. Indeed, though the Amendment’s plain text “extends, prima facie, to all instruments that constitute bearable arms,” Caetano v. Massachusetts, 577 U.S. 411, 411 (2016) …There might well be a tradition of prohibiting dangerous people from owning firearms. But, under the Second Amendment, mechanism matters. And Maryland has not pointed to any historical laws that operated by preemptively depriving all citizens of firearms to keep them out of dangerous hands. Plaintiffs’ challenge thus must succeed, and the district court’s contrary decision must be REVERSED” MARYLAND SHALL ISSUE, INC., v. WES MOORE, in his capacity as Governor of Maryland; WOODROW W. JONES, III, Colonel. USCA4 Appeal: 21-2017 Doc: 58 Filed: 11/21/2023 Pgs. 8,9,20,21 of 41 Tennessee’s statute, TCA 39-17-1308 which makes it a crime for a non-violent felon citizen to bear a rifle or shotgun for lawful purposes outside of valid hunting or sport shooting is unconstitutional on its face. Government is not responsible for providing safety or security to any individual, and, it should not be allowed to deny non-violent felon citizens to enjoy the ability to provide their own security and safety with the best tools available, especially when those rights are protected by the Constitution. It was never a crime in Tennessee to carry a loaded long gun until 1989 when under a Democrat governor, a Democrat controlled House and Senate that constitutional right was stripped away by statute. “A law repugnant to the Constitution is void. An act of Congress repugnant to the Constitution cannot become a law. The Constitution supersedes all other laws and the individual’s rights shall be liberally enforced in favor of him, the clearly intended and expressly designated beneficiary.” – Marbury v. Madison, 5 U.S. 137 (1803) The non-violent felon citizen of Tennessee is the intended beneficiary of the 2nd Amendment, and there is no historical tradition of denying the lawful use of long guns.

  3. My wife’s brother has a daughter who has two daughters of her own. Best I can figure, that makes them my great nieces. Anyway, the oldest is about 3 years old. She never seemed to like me much, although they live several hours away from here, and we don’t see them very often. At her preschool, they were asked to name the things they are thankful for this Thanksgiving. She named off several things, including the family members she could think of. Then she asked her mom “Who’s the guy with the white beard?” Her mom said “Santa Claus?” She said “-No, Greg.” I thought that was pretty cool. It probably ain’t much to you, but hell! I beat out Sant Claus.

  5. Cleaning up my collection... two single action army style commemorative Colts. No boxes - both originally came in display boxes with a plaque, but those boxes were lost in a flood (stored separately from the guns) by the previous owner. Both guns OBO/Trade with money either way. Located roughly 30 minutes north of downtown Chattanooga (Harrison). $800 OBO/trade for either revolver. Trades I'm looking for (can add/take cash either way to even up) ACW to WWII and modern military weapons, S&W revolvers (older or Pro/Performance stuff), high end combat/duty handguns, target/benchrest/competition rifles, tactical carbines and rifles, level 3+ composite body armor, 1919A4 parts (tripod, accessories, etc), gadgets, mill and lathe, automotive tools and equipment, gunsmithing stuff, a 200cc go kart with suspension, C5 Corvette race parts... a lot of things. Not into Glocks, dolled up guns charging for add-on parts, or run-of-the-mill firearms. First, a Colt Peacemaker Bluntline. 2nd Amendment commemorative two-tone nickel and beautiful high polish Royal Blue finish with faux black pearl grips. 7-1/2" barrel, test fired only. :The Right to Keep and Bear Arms" engraved along the barrel. Additional engraving on the heel of the grip frame (there's no damage on the heel, the bright spots are reflections in the engraving). Second revolver is a Colt New Frontier "The Duke" John Wayne commemorative 4-3/8" color case hardened/blued finish. Adjustable sights, unfired/as new.

  6. Do you have a gun that seems to go along on almost every trip to the range? No matter what your purpose, no matter what else you will be shooting. This one just seems to constantly find its way into the range bag. For me its my S&W Model 18-3. This particular gun was set up by a previous owner with a red ramp front sight, a smooth faced trigger and a wonderful trigger job. I added a set of Uncle Mike's combat grips and its pretty much a twin for most of my DA defensive revolvers. This is the gun that taught me how to shoot a DA revolver. It goes to the range almost every time I do and I always shoot at least 50 rounds through it almost exclusively in DA mode. Its my favorite gun. :D

  7. For sale only - In Knoxville Bushmaster M17S – 5.56 bullpup design. A rarity. Early pre-ban rifle with some cool history, great conversation piece. These were only made for a few years in a very limited run in the late 80’s/early 90s. Comes with an early Swarovski reticle sight, which I was told was an evaluation model. $1500

  10. While not necessarily a gun I seek out each range trip, it's one I pocket carry an LCR .38 spl each and every day, so it makes every range trip with me and I shoot it pretty much weekly. My LCR in .38 spl that I was fortunate to purchase from a member here a few years ago. (Range=ORSA) My Model 10 snub and Model 15 are frequent companions. Especially the past few months. The 10 snub is in my AIWB holster as I type this and prepare to head to the range. (ETA: The below revolvers are both S&W Model 10's. 4" and a 2"...I just told myself to grab the 15 before I left for the range...)

  11. I shoot both 38 specials and 357 in my Rossi Puma. Some folks claim wadcutters won’t feed well in some lever rifles. I have the Rossi in 357 and an 1894 Marlin chambered in 44 Magnum. I’ve been happy with both. They are both older models and not recent production. I also have an 1894 Marlin in 38-40. It’s over a hundred years old. It’s fun to shoot, but you’d want to handload for it as well. I’m not trying to dissuade you from the 45-70. I’d just suggest you price ammo for it, and maybe shoot someone else’s. They are easy to sell if you get one and decide you don’t like it though. A 39 Marlin 22lr is sure a fun little rifle!

  13. Agreed on the Taurus TX22. Bought it for myself. Wife wants it as her "house" gun. lol. Looking for another for me now. Personally, I've found the TX22 to be one of the best little 22 autoloaders I've ever owned or shot. Ran close to 300 rounds of CCI Blazer thru mine (over two range days withot cleaning) without any problems. Before the wife claimed it.

  15. I had a couple of 3030 early on, a Marlin 336 and a Winchester 94. sold them both. but that was when LRs were cheap and plentiful and could be had for a couple of hundred bucks. Boy do I wish I still had both of them now! Fast forward to 2020, my wife bought me a Rossi 92 Trapper in .357. This has become one of my favorite rifles to woods bum with! it's a joy to carry around (lighter than either the Remlin or the Henry that I looked at the same time), accurate and the 16" barrel is the perfect length to get the most out of factory .357 magnum ammunition. Since, I've added a Henry Classic .22 and have a 1953 3030 Winchester 94 in lay-a-way at my LGS. I'll be looking for another Marlin next, then a Savage.

  18. I can't say that it makes every range (my "range" is on an old part of my farm) trip with me, but it is along for most of them.... It's a Ruger Blackhawk "three screw" made back in '67. Very satisfying to shoot.

  19. I am 75 and not in good health. Have 9 stents in my heart with double bypass and Agent Orange to go along with it all. About 2 years ago I made a decision to give my collection to my grandchildren so my wife will not need to fool with them when I am gone. I am about 2/3 done. Most of the ones I have now will be what I keep. My safe was running over also. I have about 5 more to give away and I will be finished. I feel good about where I have given them so far. Did include the Granddaughters in this give away. Going to make a list of my remaining guns and who gets them, or my wife can keep them. Her choice.

  20. I have a TX 22 and really like the pistol. My favorite is a 686 + in 38/357. The 686 does not always go to the range, but mostly I take my Taurus 617 7 shot 38/357 2" Revolver which is my EDC and one of my MP 9 C 2.0 or Ruger Max 9 which I carry often. Not much difference in the MP and Max 9, only size. Both great pistols, IMO. Carry one of these 3 guns when I am awake. The revolver and Max are pocket carry and the MP 9 C 4" is IWB. Had both pistols and the 617 out 3 times in the last month. My grandson and granddaughter are here this morning, from S Carolina, and we will get the TX 22 out for some steel and hedge apple shooting. That is the plan after gravy and biscuits and country ham. Had a note taped to my coffee machine this morning written by a little girl. One simply must like/love a place where one can have a back yard range and spend time with grandchildren right before Thanksgiving. I know I do. Life is grand!!!!!

  22. Probably some fully-auto guns in the SUV the secret service didn't want the local gangbangers to get. As for Secret Service being held to the same standard we mere 'citizens' would be in the same circumstances? Never gonna happen. But I think that's the whole point the author is trying to make - we are restraining citizens from being able to defend property but giving a free pass to Federal agents. What's good for the goose...is good for the gander, no? Elites get privilege, average Joe gets prison.

  25. What are you gonna shoot with it? For general plinking, a 22 Long Rifle is my cartridge of choice. Low recoil, low noise, and low cost. 45-70 is pricey cartridge unless you cast and handload. They also provide a considerably amount of recoil. Lever rifles chambered for revolver cartridges are a good compromise, and you can then carry the same ammo for your rifle and sidearm, which is neat.

  26. I've never had qualms with selling or trading, especially when there was a specific purpose I felt a new gun would fill (which others I already owned couldn't accomplish). And I think downsizing itself is a specific purpose that way - fewer to clean, remain accountable for, etc. For me the only situation where I feel differently is regarding inherited firearms. I would probably starve sooner than I would sell those.

  29. I recently went on an extended RV Trip and pocket carried my Ruger Max 9 in a pocket holster. That pistol is a dream to pocket carry. If I didn't like revolvers so well the Max 9 would be my EDC permanently. By the way I have Winchester Ranger 147 Gr + P HP ammo in it. This ammo whacks the steel, on my back yard range, with gusto. Going to be shooting some water jugs with a lot of newer S D handgun ammo soon. Testing for penetration and expansion. Should come in handy if I am ever attacked by a water jug, don't you think?

  30. Had a shooting at a strip mall in M'boro this morning on N Thompson Lane. Attempted Loomis Armored Truck robbery. Loomis guard drew his pistol, and the perp ran to the nearby Jason's Deli and attempted to rob the restaurant. M'boro Cops arrived and confronted him and ordered him to stop. A shootout ensued and he was fatally shot by the Officer. Reported a 44 Y O local man. Details to follow.

  37. The Henry 22 (no offense HiPoint) just did not feel as well put together as I hoped. The Rossi was a sweet shooting rife. I just have a thing for older and vintage rifles. My oldest is a 1922 Winchester SRC, my newest is from 1980 (Marlin 375 Winchester). I started of slowly and quickly went all in. It did help that circumstances in life compelled me to divest of all my ARs and related supplies which were quickly turned into lever guns.

  38. this is what i wanted to hear. i wanted to hear the pros and cons. With it being my first one i thought maybe i should try out a pistol cartridge first, but i am so "all in" with everything that i needed to hear this. Thank you and i think i am gonna go with maybe a 357 for my first one, but i saw that 500 s&w magnum and i got the twitch again LOL i think 357 would be a good place to start, do you know which brand would be my best bang for the buck and do you know if a 357 lever gun shoots 38 like a revolver or is that only in revolvers?

  44. A savage 99 is on the list. I will probably try to stay in a caliber I already have (most likely 35 rem). i started with one Henry 22 and now have 7 Marlins, three Winchesters, plus a few other cool old rifles. I have sold the Henry as well as a Rossi, a Marlin and a Winchester. I guess since late 2021, I have bought 14 lever guns.

  47. They are retrying your case, it is what our TBI does now. I was contacted by a POST Certified 23 year veteran of the force officer that had a nothing burger charge from when he was 19 in Colorado, a letter in hand from the court with jurisdiction from the time of his application to the POST Commission saying the charge was not a domestic issue denied this fall on a hunting rifle transfer from an FFL. Our TBI is being weaponized against our 2nd Amendment rights. The Director David B. Rausch thinks the 2nd Amendment only covers muskets, said so this year in testimony in the House Civil Justice Full committee on HB 1005.
