I extended my offer for a call with Norseman308, he took advantage of that and did call. We discussed a number of issues. He seemed genuinely interested in the topics we hold dear. It is just that he does not have the experience here yet to understand the General Assembly and the judiciary appointed by our transpublican rulers have resulted in supporting the Jim Crow laws on our books to keep us in thrall to government (there are others on this board who are similarly so affected, regardless of time in the saddle in the state). I had a Senator admit this week that the "Intent to go armed" clause on our books is unconstitutional, but he also stated there is no appetite in the Senate to see it changed. That is because the Average Joe is too lazy to ride them all like it needs to be done. If we could get 50 people in each Senatorial District to light their elected Employees up, and talk about it in bars, churches and social gatherings we could change this mess, but till that happens we are dead in the water. Bitching at new guys here is of no benefit, climb up on your horse and get after the Senate of Tennessee.10 points

That response tells me that you are really missing the point, and this makes it even more difficult to extend you the benefit of the doubt. Let me try again. 1.) You say you were invited to participate in a three-day round table event hosted by people who are aligned with gun control agendas. 2.) You haven't said why you were invited. We don't know if it is because of your job as a personal counselor or if the invitation was made to the general public. All we know is that you accepted the offer and participated. 3.) You qualified your Pro 2A stance by letting us know that you are a hunter and even use your AR for that. You have to understand that we've all heard that line from a lot of gun control advocates for... decades... now. We don't know how deep your commitment to the Second Amendment runs. 4.) Your posts so far have contained a lot of the other rhetoric that gun control advocates use: We don't engage them enough. We come across as brash, bombastic assholes. (Guilty) We're entrenched and unwavering, which seems to suggest that we need to negotiate more. 5.) We still have no idea really what you told these people and whether you did more damage than good. Did you sign anything that allows that group to use your name and likeness and words in future marketing materials? Did you tell them what they wanted to hear versus what would have been more representative of the true desires of most gun owners in Tennessee? There is this concept of being a "useful idiot" and, frankly, we want to make sure that isn't what you gave them. 6.) There are signs in what you've said and on your professional websites that suggests you are a transplant to Tennessee. That's fine; a lot of us are. But are you fresh off the boat and overrunning with youthful exuberance, or have you been here long enough to have assimilated into the culture of the people you thought you were representing? As someone who has stressed their qualifications as a mental health professional several times in this thread, I would think that you would understand the psychology of crowds better. Approaching the TGO community a little more carefully on this topic probably would have yielded better results. Instead, you basically showed up to the neighborhood bar where everyone knows each other, clearly the new guy, and told us all you were here to help us do better. Tell me I'm wrong. Anyway, stick around. It's not a bad bar and these aren't bad people. We're all just naturally skeptical.10 points

Norseman308: we're not trying to run you off. In fact, its just the opposite. We just need to get to know you better. As I pointed out earlier, all your posts have been in this thread. Try participating in some of the other stuff on this forum. Let us get to know you. Don't be a stranger.6 points

Every time the nice lady calls to solicit a donation, I politely tell her, " Ma'am, I will not donate another dime to the NRA until Wayne LaPierre and company are no longer associated with it. I would appreciate it if you could pass this message along." They never seem surprised, and act as if I'm not the first to make this statement. I am a life member from way back, and would really like my money back at this point. It is a damned shame what this once great organization has become.5 points

Well, you ARE an.....just kidding I've had somebody go plum psycho on me over the phone because I couldn't meet their demands that very second because I was walking into a funeral. That's been several years ago so I can't remember if that was over sending more pictures or actually meeting up. I mean had a hissy fit over it. That ended any possibility of them being able to do business with me. Thankfully it wasn't a member here. We do have some here though. That's to be expected I guess. After all, we do live in a time where people stand impatiently in front of the microwave screaming at it to hurry up. Sometimes I really wonder what is wrong with people.5 points

You can be. It’s just that the arrogant and condescending way you chose as an entry point did not go over well. I wouldn’t go to California and start telling people how they should be doing things; especially without first taking the time to learn a bit about their culture and way of life. I’d like to see you learn stick around and learn about who we are. I think you’ll be surprised.5 points

I am trying to remain centered here and cut the OP some slack. I've gone thru this thread twice now to try and understand what both sides are saying. I see more validity to the skepticism exhibited by the people of TGO than the OP wishes to see. But as said here several times, the group has no base to work from for you, norsemen308. And with the information garned from several HIGHLY thought of and well know personalities here....well you are working from a disadvantage. A rather large one. While your credentials and intent are relatively unknown to the collective "us" here, most were willing to read and some to take this survey. I personally think your responses have been a bit strong and accusatory. Especially from your status as a "Newb". Trust must be earned. I don't see that you have made an attempt of do this. We are all relying on personal relationships developed here over years, and decades in some instances. You cannot just jump in and rattle all these things off and expect to be treated as you would like. Trust has to be earned. I'll still give you the benefit of doubt here. I did like some of your comments relating to the intent you stated. However, I do note that this poll reads like the various pop-ups that appear on social media. I, for one, do not reply to those questionaires becasue the nameless and faceless, unknown sources lack the creditability, or familiarity necessary for me to post anything about my life or views on such a well known source of lies and inuendoes. Also, as TriplGGG, TGODavid, and others have said...you have no provenance of intent nor credibility to base your actions nor comments upon. Perhaps I am quite gullible, and many would agree to that, but at first glance, I was willing to accept you as what you stated. Now, I'm not to sure. For now, I think I'll just go back to Facebook and tell some stranger all the details of my life.5 points

Oh, there are lots of hardcore NRA believers out there. No matter how bad things get, they'll never say a bad word about the NRA nor will they accept any proof of mismanagement. They just refuse to hear it. Over on the big blue forum, any thread bad mouthing the NRA gets shut down almost immediately. When it comes to education, training or competition, the NRA can't be beat. Its the political side that's screwing us. WLP has gotten too caught up in playing the game and compromising us to death. I'm still a member mainly because my gun club requires it and the fact that they are the big kids on the block. Dwindling membership just gives the antis more ammo. However, I don't give one red cent more than my annual dues. I'm also a member of TFA, GOA, SAF and FPC. Now these I throw a little extra money to now and then.4 points

Almost word for word my experience with the solicitors in the last years. I'll give money when WLP is gone. I get these 1/2 times a year still. Motly the response is short pause and a hangup. FWIW. I met Wayne in a recieving line way, way back at a convention. My takeaway was that he was just another slimy politico. Reminded me of Al Gore. And even though my Dad loved the man(Al or more likely one of his staff...leaned on the Social Security Medical Review Board to get his disability approved) I couldn't stand him even at the beginning. FYI. My donations for the cause go to TFA, GOA, SASociety.4 points

WLP is a crook, no doubt, but the 76 member board that elects him is who we need to focus on. In 2022 WLP got 75 out of 76 votes. If you're like me, you can't name one single member on that board. I look at the names on the NRA ballot when I vote, but I have no clue who they. My guess is that anyone we'd WANT to run the NRA isn't interested, but those who want to control all that NRA money are the kind of people who keep electing WLP.4 points

It's a shame really. I started shooting when our local YMCA started an Air Rifle club sponsored by the NRA back in the early 70s. Of course different times for sure but... teaching and passing on the skills and disciplines required for safe shooting were the forefront of the organization.4 points

I never got around to sharing my TGO build. This was my very first AR15 from the old group buy. I just swapped the cheap yet sturdy UTG quad rail for a CMT HDM rail. To be honest I didn't hate the UTG Pro rail, but I felt like the rifle deserved better. It's a TGO CMT upper and lower set, 16" barrel with a Silencerco ASR flash hider, Magpul MOE furniture, AIM surplus BCG, sporting a Vortex 1x6. -southernasylum4 points

Odd source for this type of article on Tennessee Gun Owners. It's from Rolling Stone magazine. Seems funding for the NRA as been slipping and rather than get rid of WLP and his crew of misfits, they are cutting funding for shooting education. Imagine that. The NRA was a great organization, until the crooks took it over. And I don't see it ever coming back to preeminence until WLP and his cronies are gone. Of course, as long as there's enough cash coming in to support their lifestyles, that's not going to happen. I'd copy and paste the article here, but I'm afraid the graphics might not come over. So here's the link. Go read it for yourselves. The NRA Is Cannibalizing Itself (msn.com)3 points

My guess is corporate donations/advertisements exceed grassroots donations at this point.3 points

I wonder who is still supporting them. Clearly someone is still sending money. If they can't even get support from members of a gun forum I'm not sure who that leaves.3 points

I've been called an asshole for worse reasons than that. So are you saying you don't know who the TGO member is? How did you communicate with them?3 points

So, no reason to believe there was anything induced by the hellcat. I had just recently broke it down for a cleaning. As for the more technical questions about the gun, I couldn’t say. I had probably only 25 rounds from that bag down range, so low round count. No barrel obstruction, and no visible barrel damage from initial inspection (flashlight / mirror). Haven’t heard back from Norma yet, but have been told unofficially by someone at trueshot that I am not the first customer to have a more serious failure from the JULY lot from norma. unfortunately I don’t save ammo info, all I know it was bought in July and I’ve segregated that bag. Certainly doesn’t make me confident in the 500 rounds of frangible I bought from them few months later.3 points

Greg, I found him to be intelligent and interested. Unlike a lot of other Tennesseans who expect others to carry their water, he is seeking to find a way to get involved (trusting leftist to give them a fair shake is something they have to learn is non-productive) but endeavor is a good thing. I offered that when I go back to the legislature, I would be glad to lead him around the corners. Like many who move here, I think possibly the perception of Tennessee is far different from the reality, and when they reach the Promised Land and find it is not quite that, they seek to get involved to keep it from becoming what they left.2 points

Al Gore Sr. Was a crook and a politician, but did try to help Tennessee. I probably would have voted for him at the time. Al Jr. Is a whole nuther can of worms. In their case, the nut fell quite far from the tree.2 points

You are correct, and can only be put on the ballot in years of a governor's election. The GA will try hard to keep this one off the ballot, even though it is needed, it can only be put up this year and next and then be on the ballot in 2026, or it waits till 2030 and that is too dang late.2 points

I have to say I believe the comments on this thread answer any "survey questions" without taking a survey. I ran the whois on the website link of the survey the first day of the post. I clicked through the questions and chose not to participate. I can guarantee you every representative that represents my zip code on the local, state and federal level knows who I am and where I stand. Also the same can be said for many who do not represent my zip code. I have no fear of being known or being on any government list. If it takes a random survey with vague questions to make a difference then we've already lost the war. Send me a survey with hard questions based on hard data choosing hard decisions no one wants to make and you'll get my response.2 points

*cough* But seriously, you really do need to stop for a moment and read the room. You basically pulled the spotlight onto you and announced that you're new but here to help. In case you missed it, the reaction you got is the quintessential "You ain't from around here, are ya?" I am sure this hasn't gone the way you thought that it would, but the rest of us saw it coming.2 points

Sir. You may well have the best of intentions. Fact is, we just don’t know. You might try settling in here and getting to know us before spring a poll of unknown quantity or origination on us. Or not. It is up to you.1 point

Am I reading this correct? This is going away That the citizens of this State have a right to keep and to bear arms for their common defense; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime. and substituting instead the following: and this is replacing the above? That the citizens of this State have a right to keep and to bear arms for their defense. If so I like it A LOT!!!1 point
